Why are there people gaslighting that MoP was a succes?

3M. Start of MoP: 10M. Lowest point: ± 7M.

Yep, WoD did it much worse. That’s true.

The 10mil is a sudden increase in Q4 of 2014 which is likely attributed to the WoD launch rather than MoP being good. People forget that while WoD turned out to be quite a letdown it was pretty hyped at launch.

MoP’s main issues was with the writing, with most the alliance receiving the idiot bat so that Varian could be the god emperor. Along with Garrosh getting the villain bat.

it´s not gaslighting if someone likes pandaland. i would totally have a blast at it once it enters classic.

you are also talking about hate watchers/players. it´s their hobby for some reason.

MoP is one of my favourite expansions. It lost people before it was ever launched because of the stupid Kung Fu Panda groups who were determined to put people off before it appeared. I liked the characters, I liked the story and, especially, I loved the scenery.
It was so good to be able to go back there in Remix and relive it all (albeit as a super-powered character).

Yeah, and people often forget when an expansion starts strong, but ends poorly like with cataclysm and wod. With the opposite for Legion starting bad end ending good.

Forgive me but what difference does it make now?

Lol do you guys just not read your own stuff? Every graph shows MoP nearly cost 2 million subscribers by the first quarter alone

That’s your god given right to like it, but the expansion bled a lot of subs

game peaked sub wise in Wotlk
this trend started in cataclysm and subs have being going down since and still

This genre simply doesn’t attract new players any more
and old players grow up and move on.

i’m trying to say that i disagree with you that MoP as an expansion is at blame here.
because in my humble opinion the game peaked design wise in Mists of Pandaria.

pve
pvp
class design
world etc

MoP implemented several core features that became permanent additions to WoW such as M+ (challenge modes) and flexible raiding.
The difficulty was perfect for semi-serious guilds and the fights were more focused on fun than eSports fairness.
The story and leveling was engaging and interesting, and the argument of “kung fu panda” is just people trying to say something negative.

WoW overall is bleeding subs because it’s more profitable (and liked by shareholders) to let it slowly decline than make major changes and risk losing all at once.
Plus last I heard their revenue is in fact increasing despite the sub losses. Not that it affects us in any way, but it means they’ll just maintain the status quo forever.

The longer a season goes the more likely you’ll even get me to raid… which is why I like overly long seasons. At some points ppl just assume you’ve done the bosses and start inviting you without checking… so one actually gets the chance to learn the raid. xD

This was mostly before the expansion even launched. And the argument was bogus since there was a Pandaren in WC3 before the movie.

The decline in player numbers came in Cata. I was one of them, I was bored in Cata and unsubbed. So many resources used to revamp the world and add transmog that there was little to do at end game outside of raiding.
MOP actually reversed the decline (although it took a while) so numbers were going up by the end.
In terms of player participation and retention MOP did well. Players enjoyed the content of MOP. There were issues of course (always are) with Reps gated behind other reps and some rep gear being so good that some players felt forced into rep grinding.

I play WoW with a IRL friend who plays each expansion until he’s seen the main story and explored the zones. Last time he played a full expansion was MOP. It was a good expansion in terms of content being added.

There’s nothing wrong with Pandaren. The problem is they were changed from Samwise’s roaring monsters into something far too cuddly.

How is this not Warcraft?

It was successful; just not with the pathetic edgelords who latched onto the “lolol kung-fu panda!!” crap. The raids were well-received, the classes were great, and the lore/vibe was stellar. The only legitimate things that contributed to MoP’s lower numbers were people quitting after the burn-out of Cata and those who quit because SoO lasted like a year or something.

Aww look,

Asjon is running through his list of grievance greatest hits. Nothing new to get outraged about this week?

One of the reasons I quit during Cata was because I was against MoP.

It had/has no place, imo, in the WoW universe and I felt it was only done to appeal to an Eastern audience and gain customers in that region.

 Such a fond memory for me. SoO of was my first ever Mythic Raid. There was a guild that were farming the limited heritage weapons from Garosh and needed players to fill the group and go in. They just invited a bunch of us casuals and mostly carried us through the raid even though they explained some of the mechanics. I remember feelin so chuffed getting most of the mail gear for my hunter and some of the heritage weapons. Weeks later we knew the mechanics by then and it just went on a rinse and repeat.
