Why are we awash with gear? It all feels bloated beyond belief

Seems like every content drop we get need full sets of catch up gear.

Siren Isle - Catch up gear
Invasion Event - Catch up gear
Horrific Visions Catch up gear

Its not that i think there shouldn’t be some sort of catch up but it almost feels like its irrelevant to even gear if you know there’s a content drop coming up.

I appreciate catch up mainly to complete transmog sets. I just wish that if you unlocked an HC piece of the tier set that it unlocked the lower versions of it.

On top of being awash with gear there’s crests and turbo boosting and dinars and siren isle rings and corruptions and i believe a belt. God help anyone joinng in the expansion now. I am not talking about how easy it is to get all this but its just all confusing and bloated. Id rather than these systems that they just released more dungeons to do.

I remember back in BC/Wrath when a new patch came out there may be a badge vendor that you had to grind out HCS or rep to fill out missing gear gaps. As i casual i preferred that method of catch up.

I wish we could get a hybrid of BC/Wrath and modern game play.

For example your alts can have reps, attunements etc all account wide but gear progression would require you to progress through each raid tier to gear up. If not alts at least your first character. Keep warband gear sharing but make it less saturated. It should be a journey through an expansion, keep the Ilvls tighter and closer together. Stat squish so that when you do get a nice gear piece you can see it visually in your numbers on screen. I.e. say you get 20 strength then that should add 20 damage to your numbers on screen. Maybe make stats more interesting.

I know we reset gear every expansion but that’s 18-24 months to progress not every 8 weeks. It feels pointless to even try. It also means professions are a waste of time. I miss building my character.

I remember in BC when i tanked for my guild the feeling of pride that i hit uncrushable. Then i got a drop from HC that had 3 gem slots and i could start stacking stamina. Going back and steaming rolling HCS after that was such a sense of accomplishment. I grinded out the epic shield from the Isle of QD and was so happy once i got it.

Make Crests less convoluted. For exple, Raid finder, Normal, HC or Mythic crests. Once you complete that level of content then you can upgrade the gear. Delves could be split into those levels too. I.e 1-2 is LFR, 2-4, is normal etc.

I miss building a character, lets not lose the RPG.

And no i dont want to play classic!

They’re primarily for alts, not your main.

I support this idea. For one, we don’t need 4 types of crests in addition to valorstones. 1 or at most 2 types of crests is enough (and simultaneously remove valorstones). They also need to be renamed to more understandable names (Veteran / Hero would be enough to coincide with equipment tiers)

We need to remove crests entirely, and use valorstones only, capped by your progress.

The system should consider:

  • Your M+ rating (if any)
  • Your raid progress (number of bosses & highest difficulty bosses completed) (if any)
  • Your delve progress (number of delves & highest level completed) (if any)
  • Your PVP rating (if any)

The highest of these should be used to cap your gear upgrade. It’s simple, and it encourages people to run content they actually like (Pick your pillar above) to upgrade their gear.

Yes, but I don’t like your suggestion of naming them after raiding. Raiding is not ‘the heart of WoW’. It’s just one of a bunch of endgame activities.

Instead we should just give them names that make it clear what they are:
Copper Crests, Silver Crests, Gold Crests, Platinum Crests.
Simple. Clear. And no need to rename them every single time.

I’m also still not a fan of the valorstone + crest combo.
Just use one or the other. Not both.

They tried this before . The current system is better

No they didn’t I remember it being capped by rating in m+ only, but not a combination of the above. Also, why is the current system better, what’s better about having to loot a rare item again, just because it wasn’t mythic track?

Progressing through raid tiers sounds cool, until you put latecomers (People who didn’t start playing right at the start of the expansion), rerollers, and alts into the mix, having to re-run old content to gear them up (Or running old content for attunements) was a pain in the neck.

In fact, it was so much of a pain that many guilds just poached players, leading to the phenomenon of feeder-guilds, and having been a (social, funny how the opposite of “Raider” was “Social”, but i digress…) member of one such guild (Eternally stuck in T1/T4, only a few tries at the first boss or two of T2/T5 until several players jumped ship again), trust me, that was only fun for the winners.

To prevent that from happening again, we have catch-up gear, which (If you’re even half trying) isn’t much of an improvement on what you already have, anyway.

Sure, all those systems are confusing to new players (At first), but at least they have a shot at catching up to players who’ve been playing for all the expansion.

I totally get that and i can remember that happening but it could be done better now with account wide options. Surely someone focusing on a character and progressing leads to a better quality of player.

I just think that expansions aren’t expansions anymore. Patches feel like mini expansions with no requirement to go back and do things unless youre a collector. Its no longer a larger seamless world. Theres no character building.

You could literally buy the expansion, boost a char and never engage with every expansion that came before it. People arent learning their class by leveling or progressing. I do support alt friendliness though, reps shouldve been account wide years ago.

In fact you could almost turn it into a lobby game like overwatch. PVP mode, Raid Mode, Solo Mode, Mythic Plus mode. All with class templates.

Can you imagine having to level through every expansion, with all the disjointed themes, stories, and timelines?

It would be both a narrative mess (So, is Garrosh the warchief, a random NPC, just a commander, warchief again, a traitor, or dead in this expansion?), as well as being off-putting to the (Admittedly few) newcomers, i tried “Final fantasy 14” a few years ago, and seeing all the (excessively long-winded) story i had to progress through to get to level cap pushed me right back to WoW.

What i hope WoW gets after the world soul saga is a Kalimdor/EK revamp, so we can have an evergreen levelling experience, not tied to any particular point in the lore, so it doesn’t cause continuity problems with future content.

Yeah thats true, its very jarring as well when there so many systems that have been abandoned that require groups or things that have been removed i.e. the artifact weapons talent trees.

Season 1 = Siren Isle gave Veteran (LFR/normal) gears.
Like it’s first time.

Season 2 = Invasion Event & Horrific Visions give Champion (normal/heroic)

I would not surpise if Season 3 give Mythic gears as Catch up gears.
But I dont sure TWW can end as Season 4 in 2026

Cresting is the new gearing.

That’s because most of playerbase plays only for gear upgrade.

Finały after 20 years Blizzard realised something so obvious.

I personaly love the current model especialy with using catalyst Charges to complete transmog sets.

Only thing i wish is that catalyst Charges build up weekly at this point to let US compelte transmog faster

If they want to stick with the crest or upgrading system, I would rather upgrading be tied to specific class-based quests and it were once per slot per season. Imagine the amount of epic content this could bring.

But yeah, tight budget and layoffs and stuff. And so many players not caring about the RPG aspect at all, just wanna run dungeons xd xd

The upgrades dont feel meaningful. Back in the earlier expansions you targeted stats, you focused in certain badge pieces, crafted items, rep etc to fill your gear out and you noticed when you got a piece. Unless you sim to the high heavens you wouldnt even notice its not interesting. Vers has to be the most boring stat ever.

I get that people who have been playing for years may understand it and enjoy it but dont realise the huge barrier to entry it is.

They should definitely revisit stats and make the whole gearing process more interesting in other ways imo. Haste, crit, mastery, vers all feel very inconsequential.

Mastery has the most potential to be truly game-changing and meaningful to most specs imo, but over the years it has been turned into just another passive damage stat pretty much. There is hardly any thought involved.

they only dont feel meaningfull if you push your chars strong in mythic gear.

if you chill out on them each season feels extremly rewarding in beging hen you swap last season champions / hero into new veteran / champion pieces.
