It doesn’t have to be “interesting” just less annoying. Give me personal nodes that don’t despawn right in front of me or while gathering because someone else already touched it before.
Gathering is a joke overall this time around. The amount of knowledge you get is laughable, and your only source of acuity is the little scraps of knowledge you get per week. So you can’t afford the vendor knowledge, making the knowledge gains even slower, and you can’t afford the gathering equipment either.
Nothing makes me want to use gathering professions less than being forced into a doing crafting professions first just to get reasonable amounts of acuity, all to max out your specs and still gather Q1 mats most of the time.
Gathering isn’t interesting, it’s just a mindnumbing grind activity which is why the bulk of what you find on the AH is from bots. Making nodes take 9 seconds to mine while they throw bombs around causing you to have to restart the process isn’t fun, nor is the solution of maximising your mining knowledge around these mines.
The exploding mines usually yield less too even though they are considered a “rich” type of mine, that may not be the case if you specialise into them, but honestly the whole tryharding of the profession system has ruined professions.
By example I am a master axe-smith, I can craft rank 5 axes, but that’s literally all I can craft and if I want to craft say boots, I need to level another character and max out boots, I hate it.
Haha man I remember having to grind arcanite crystals from thorium in places like UnGoro and dreaded someone else would be doing the same thing. Gathering used to be FAR more difficult/annoying than it is now.
just pick a herb and mine and fly around just for the relaxing part of the game it doesnt have to be fancy or game world changing thingy just relax look at the surroundings pick a herb and fly away
Vanilla is an outlier though, from TBC until WOD it got easier and easier, and better and better to be able to maintain a healthy balance in this game. Then Legion hit and it took a jump (due to material costs), but it balanced out reasonably well until DF where it bumped up again, then TWW it has bumped up again.
The main issue is material ranks, rarity and crafting costs. I admit that exploding mining nodes is less annoying than getting ganked or having a node stolen while you fight the mob guarding it, but that doesn’t make exploding nodes fun or interesting.
As soon as I started with professions in DF I realized why they added reagent bags. Not to give us a convenient extra place for reagents to go to, but to accommodate the 3x amount of items hogging up bag space because of the material quality system. It honestly fills up so fast that half the time reagents still end up in my regular bags. I hate the quality system so much.
The EZ’s are indeed annoying and I largely ignore them across everyone but my engineer, but I’ve yet to actually feel annoyed by any of the other nodes. I dunno, I just don’t feel the issue there. Sp.N - speccing into EZ overloading doesn’t really seem to make much a difference in quantity more than just make it a few seconds quicker lol.
Crafting on the other hand, yea, that’s a bit more tangible. There’s always been specialised routes to take, even that was in Classic if I can recall, but the tier/quality system in play now can be terribly confusing and utterly punishing if you haven’t googled every aspect of the trees before committing your points.
They should take a page out of runescapes book and introduce random events to professions.
Sometimes when you mine you run the risk of digging up a chasm that makes you fall down into a delve that you have to complete in order to get back to the main world
Personal nodes would be abused by bots and the AH would be flooded with literally billions of resources, it would make professions lose all their value.
I agree that disappearing nodes are a bit annoying but it’s not a big deal IMO, however it is necessary to keep resources global rather than personal, what makes things valuable is scarcity.
It’s already like that now with herbs, if you go to hallowfall you see people planting and then everyone can loot them, so they are just flying around the farm all day multi-boxing, seen it myself.
Professions in WOD went fully down the personalised route with garrisons providing professions and resources, not a massive amount but enough to keep you going and it was great. For me there was no better expansion than WOD for being able to play self-sufficient with professions.
Now you have nodes that don’t despawn and armies of bots farming them.
