There is only a small number of different cave layouts. You get used to them if you have been in there often enough.
Though I have to admit when I started with Vanilla I got lost in that barrow den pretty bad on release day. Simce then, I don‘t enter this cave anymore if I am not at least level 10. 
I remember feeling disappointed when I realized this 
“Wait… This cave layout seems familiar…”
I always group up for it at level 8. Makes it SO much easier and quicker, and safer.
Ever since my vanilla days i don’t go into this cave at all. It is funny how now in classic, running in certain things, memories of horrible deaths come back in a flash. Like when that dwarf was trying to offer me quest “Deep ocean, vast sea” at Auberdine i just backed away slowly mumbling about forgetting my coffee maker on.
