Why Classic+ > TBC

TBC adds fundamental things that diverge from classic alongside it’s improvements.

  1. focus on Arena for PvP caused many issues with Class Balance and game design that ultimatly made Classes less interesting.

  2. Giving Horde Paladins and Alliance Shamans was lazy-mans balancing and removes the major difference between the factions. The stark difference between the Factions in Vanilla adds a lot of fun flavor to the game and allows differing strategies in Raids.

  3. Several minor additions like adding a second continent, flying, removal of gear progression etc are sticking points in the community.

  4. Move to 25 man raids over 40 man removes much of the epic feeling and semi-casual nature of Classic raiding. Anyone can be player #40, not everyone can be player #25. The community feeling of a guild takes a hit when you need to sort players based on skill more aggressively.

  5. Personal Issue: TBC dealt very poorly with Hybrids. They no longer were Hybrids but became pick-a-spec where they could no longer flex between roles without respeccing, and the balancing to bring them up to par was again pretty lazy. Druids and Paladins particularly get shafted in design, the original concepts were much more interesting than their TBC iteration even if TBC is more “Balanced”.

  6. World PvP was/is a central thing people wanted and Classic is unmatched in providing it. Take a trip to Silithus and you’ll see what I mean. TBC doesn’t replicate that anywhere to the same degree after the launch rush, this also leads into…

  7. There are no Alliance in TBC. Without severe changes the faction balance just dies and this is very observable on Pservers.

The crux of the issue is “without significantly altering the game-play formula”. The roots laid in TBC’s changes were exactly what significantly altered the game-play formula. Both in TBC and as groundwork for why things moved in the directions they did later.

Even Kevin Jordan made a comment about Arena to the effect of ‘it put pressure on the classes’ to be homogenized so they could succeed in a very narrow and specific setting, and that follows through for almost all of the TBC changes. The refined formula of TBC pressured all the classes into the changes they received in Wrath and I fully believe they simply will once more if people play through TBC again. And we’ll just be left wondering again where we went wrong when it isn’t fun anymore.

I’ll sure have fun playing TBC, but it’ll be a more somber expansion for me than Classic because it removed much of what I love about the game.

I’m sorry but:

and?

TBC > classic in every way.
The main problem will be the faction balance, that’s about it.

Just stick to classic, if you don’t like TBC…

heres a big problem.

WoW Struggle to put out a Expansion every 2 years for WoW Retail and u want them to try do that AND put out brand new content on a seperate game

blizzard wouldnt take up two MMORPGS. the only reason they likely caved into doing Classic is because they dont have to develope New content for it… merely just format ALready designed content to work on new stuff.

if there gonna try revert to WoW to its old glory and Correct the Path it took, they may aswell do it on Retail they dont need to completely try rewrite the game off CLassic to correct that…

the orginal design of ret paladin is Auto attack Andy, its even a damn meme. so i dont know how u really feel it could get worse for them either.

It’s literally impossible, unless they hire another few hundred people to create new content…(mmorpg

But why create more content for two different mmorpgs, it’s literally a waste of money… unless you’re willing to pay for an “expansion” for classic+.

What? So the fact that paladins get two working specs makes them less interesting than pressing Flash of Light for two hours? There’s nothing interesting about these designs they are unfinished.

Anyone before classic launched could have made a list of problems with vanilla world of warcraft and say “don’t make it it sucks”.

Not everyone is interested in Classic and they want to play TBC or Solitaire. It’s not up to you to decide what is arbitrary better.

There isn’t much epic, just a bigger raid frame and in case of Classic very little mechanics for the most part. If they run with pre-nerf Mu’ruu you will see what absurdly overtuned raid boss is and why every raider is running leatherworking.

Oh, and already I see some guilds not having 40 for their BWL/MC clears… and it will get worse.

In Classic they are called healers. In TBC they are much more sought after support classes. Casters may want an ele shaman, melee may want enhancement and so on. With good gear Paladins can be the best tank, not to mention best AoE tank. Druids also move out of predominately healing role.

Was, after initial “let’s try” people got bored or faced faction imbalance on their realm and had to postpone their “glorious” PvP moments indefinitely or just go to PvE or their faction dominated PvP realm.

That’s why pservers do some balancing. If Blizzard does nothing then just PvE Realms and no bother. Open world PvP with flying as you say is already bad

And I want to go to TBC and then WoTLK, maybe even to WoD…

Why Classic+ does not > TBC:

Activision-Blizzard.

Vanilla, and TBC, are tried and tested. They are not perfect, far from it. But players enjoy them and there has been a demand for them.

After nearly a decade of a freight-train of Activision-Blizzard failures after more failures, tell me with a straight face you have ANY confidence that they could make a success of Classic+.

TBS is a better version of vanilla. Classic + sounds great but considering the current developer mindset in Blizzard I don’t think they can pull something like that off.

Re Problems with open world PvP

Roll PvE - Problem Solved.

What? The major difference is what races you have access to you complete moron.

The only point that isn’t completely or at the very least mostly wrong is 7, but you wouldn’t like the solution (removing racials or making racials available to everyone through a new talent slot, only way)

The community takes a huge hit already when I can even say a thing in comms because there are 39 other ppl on it instead of 9 or 24. Or when raids are done at a blistering pace because of how boringly easy they are. Or how the higher size of raids reduces the number of available guilds, thus making it harder for ppl with “special needs” (in terms of schedule, for example) to find something suiting them.

Your idea of community seems to revolve around carrying dead weights. My idea of community revolves around being able to freely talk with people while playing something interesting. Feel free to stay in Classic, you won’t be missed.

Why do you trust MODERN blizzard to make good classic+ content

You’re being foolish. They can barely do classic as it is.

Agreed. Classic purists are definitely a minorty, though a very LOUD minority, particularly in these forums. If you were to have a survey of all the poeple who have ever played classic (hell just ask people in game which I have done) the vast majortiy of them support having TBC released.

These forums on the other hand give a wrong impression because a lot of classic purists flock here on a regular basis and are sure to make themselves heard, giving the impression that those who want to stick to classic outnumber those who would support having TBC released.

i’d say tbc+
bring TBC as it is But with time add more New content to it.

Yeah, but we all know that classic+ will never happen.
Why develop two mmorpgs at once after all xD.

If they do classic+ won’t it be 3, retail, Classic+ and TBC?

But they aren’t developing classic+ nor TBC?

Classic+ is a dream for people wanting extra content for classic.
TBC would have no development as it’s already made…?

TBC however, is still not confirmed.

They have said they are developing it, just not that it’s going to be released.

Well said op I agree entirely with everything you said.

I have been pretty serious with Vanilla but I’m gonna go casual with tbc. It was the beginning of the end, indeed.
