Whoa man, levelling through classic takes me back to where the Horde was an actual military force to be reckoned with instead of this council drama kodocrap.
Damn, it honestly felt like I was back at home when I saw Nazgrel again in Thrallmar. Really used to love Orcish culture for its warrior aesthetics and praise of warriors good or bad.
Seeing generals called “fist of the warchief”, you’d question what they did to achieve such a rank.
And not to mention the Alliance had their fair share of grizzled veterans who did not lose their sense of humor through their PTSD.
Really kudos to Chris Metzen and co for creating this. Sadly Blizzard seems unable to recreate this feeling, so instead it’s written like a Disney movie to appeal to the new mass.
Seriously tho am I the only one seeing the difference? Just go back to Dragonflight on the zeppelin and the NPC’s act like they’re going on a tour to a vacation resort.
Now compare that to Outland where the first thing you see is an officer yelling at the new recruits there’s a chance that they’re going to return back home in a bodybag.
The main issue for wow is that its old. You cant keep fighting over and over. Every story needs an end.
Eventually it becomes stale and you end up just making twists and turns just for the sake of “plot”.
And since neither side can actually win, peace is the best solution. Yes, you dont need an overwhelming victory to carry a storyline but the story has been butchered. It requires a massive revamp.
But on the other hand, times have changed irl. People in general have different tastes now too. Its tough to keep balance and keep everyone happy.
I am so glad we’ve moved away from the emo-edgy mess that WoW’s been in for years.
This is such a breath of fresh air.
There’s much bigger threats out there. Characters in the game know that. Why would they weaken themselves by getting involved in petty conflicts? That literally makes zero sense.
It’s a playerbase problem. There’s a famous quote people always post on forums from a game dev about how players will always optimise the fun out of any game.
You see it in WoW classic with how it has been ruined by min/max elitists. The horde/alliance thing was also due to players, had people just stuck to their guns and stayed in the faction they originally chose everything would have been fine but everyone started panic-faction changing to horde like headless ‘‘the world is going to end’’ chickens and left it in a position where WoW had to lose the ‘war’.
The faction conflict could had been better handled instead of:
Alliance good.
Horde bad.
For example: brown Orcs like Garrosh during TBC were supposed to be uncorrupted Orcs who were not influenced by demon Blood. But Garrosh and later on WoD, shown that the majority of the Orc Clans like the BlackRock and Warsong clans are violent. The Frostwolf, Clan from which Durotan (father of Thrall) is, are an exception.
During Warcraft 3 when Thrall finds out that Grom Hellscream and the Warsongs drank the demon blood of Mannoroth, in order to defeat Cenarius, Grom tells him that he and the other Orc clans voluntarily drank the demon blood and Gul’dan just offered it. To which Thrall screams in anger:
“You did this to our people ? Aaaarrrgggh !”
Sylvanas and the Forsaken should had been people who were free from Arthas control. A force to be used against the Litch King. However all they were, was just a convenient Scape goat to create more chaos between the 2 factions.
What would had happened, had the Forsaken not joined the Horde ?
There’s no disputes between the Eastern Kingdoms and the Horde since there’s no military presence there.
The Orcs, Darkspear Trolls and Tauren, all lived in Kalimdor.
Because the Forsaken are not part of the Horde there’s none to stop the Alliance from attacking Undercity. Especially after Grand Apothecary Putress, pulled that stunt in front of the Icecrown Citadel doors, with his plague, that killed thousands of Horde and Alliance soldiers but did nothing to Arthas.
Sylvanas was a puppet of the Jailer.
Perhaps, she should had been left to be dealt with the Alliance instead of being the Horde’s troublemaker.
All in all I’m glad we don’t have faction conflict.
My characters can finally chill out in the Dragon islands and be the unknown adventurers they should had been since Vanilla.
Because for way too many expansions the writers have been incapable of writing nuance and rather forced the horde to be something they weren’t (wc1-2 horde) with the alliance mostly sidelined save for a handful of characters.
Similar could be said for Night Elves. The only encounter they had with the Alliance back in wc3 was with the silver hand while cleaning up after Illidan.
All other encounters were with Theramore and Thrall’s Horde, neither of which were on particular good terms with whatever was left of the Alliance, especially not after killing Daelin.
The faction conflict have unfortunately been a messy stain on this game since inception.
You must’ve been playing a different version because Warcraft 3 ends quite grim and bleak with Arthas taking the throne, Illidan might be dead with Maiev doing questionable things, Malfurion and Tyrande have become mortal, the story with Sylvanas… Kael’thas fall from grace…
That’s quite a different setting and stone than Dragonflight.
Either this is some extreme revisionism or you’ve never actually enjoyed the true sense of Warcraft
If we were to stick to the idea of factions introduced in WarIII then we’d actually get 4 of them rather than 2, since night elves were not really part of the Alliance, so where the undead to the Horde. I guess it’s just a matter of balancing both factions that choice was made but I still think 2 factions are an actual revision of the WarIII lore.
That’s a social issue but Blizzard is to blame. I get why belves were introduced to the Horde so that factions population could even out. I really get that.
What I don’t get however is that Blizzard was not so keen on acting when the Alliance population was still salvageable, but instead decided to completely kill off every man for himself without tearing down troll, orcs and belves racials. No wonder why legion saw the population either moving or quitting during legion (I get why one would quit the game if their favorite faction is unplayable, or does not have equal gaming conditions than the other) because turns out Horde racials were vastly superior to their alliance counter parts.
And that’s sadly True, wow was built as a 2 factions game but only 1 ended up playable. Trust me, if you wanna do content that does not consist of rp and WQ then you were better off being on the Horde side, due to simply having a larger player base. I’ve moved back to the Alliance during 9.1 and I still think I’ve wasted 60 bucks. I mean, I’ve paid to worsen my game experience, that does not sound right. That’s stupid.
Lets see, after WC3 we had the factions.
Night Elves under Maiev.
Night Elves under Tyrande.
Illidan’s legion of Blood Elves, Naga, Fel orcs.
Thrall’s Horde.
Theramore.
Scourge.
Forsaken.
And finally the Alliance (With stormwind twice sacked, Alterac sacked, Loarderon sacked, pretty much just Kul’Tiras proper, stormgarde and the dwarves left).
Not to mention that the faction barrier only exists for the players. NPC’s gives jack all about what race someone is when it comes to factions.
