It appears to me that the Horde on the PvP server I play on have some sort of aversion to World PvP and I’m beginning to wonder why most actually bothered to roll on a PvP server? I asked this in chat recently, when I saw the alliance dominating some areas in regards to WPvP and the answer I got was “why bother with WPvP, it’s a waste of time compared to BGs”.
I understand that BGs are obviously the most optimal way to gain honor, but if a players intention was to spend all their time in BGs, they could have achieved that on a PvE server. So why bother creating a character on a PvP server?
I get the feeling that many have just created a character on a PvP server cause that was the thing to do if you were rolling horde and most of them actually just want a PvE experience.
This topic has already been discussed to death, but I’ll give you some reasons:
People may have friends on the PvP server
PvP servers generally are more populated and therefore have better economy, raiding scene, etcetera
World PvP is mostly unfair -> people are either higher level, outnumbering the other faction or attacking people who are fighting a mob or something and therefore an easy prey. As a result, world PvP is generally not fun.
People underestimated the issue of overpopulation, and therefore world PvP leads to massive camping on some servers.
If you are the lowest of a lopsided faction balance (for example 45%-55% already) there is no use fighting against the odds. Imagine beginning a bg with 30 people versus 40, at some point if it keeps happening you’d rather give up then fight a losing fight.
May add other reasons later, but try to put yourself in other people’s shoes and you can come up with these kind of reasons why a player not interested in world PvP would still roll on a PvP server.
Although Firemaw is 55% horde, 45% Alliance, you don’t really get to see Alliance players anywhere in the world except when moving to Raid objectives as a group.
About 30 mins ago I went to Everlook (Winterspring) to get some Juju Power, and I was the only alliance player in the zone. There were 10 or 12 horde players in and outside the town and I was the only alliance.
I don’t know what areas you refer to that are Alliance controlled except say, Loch Modan or uh Westfall.
From my POV, there are simply NO alliance players out in the world at all except maybe few levellers.
There is, however, Horde everywhere out in the world and all contested zones (except maybe zones like Wetlands) are 100% controlled by the Horde.
Many want to play in a living, breathing world. Let’s face it, seasoned players simply do not die outside of raids and high level dungeons anymore, because they are skilled enough to avert any kind of disaster.
That’s where wPvP comes in, it makes you look over your shoulder every so often and breathes new life into your game.
But you don’t have to go out of your way to find that, normally PvPers come to you once in a while.
All in all the game does not get stale as fast when you play on an ever dangerous PvP server.
The most extreme cases of PvP realm players you will find in BGs while pugging. “I’m here for rep, not interested in PvP”… While having PvP realm name above his head… Those people shouldn’t be banned, they should be transfered to PvE.
I always choose pvp realms for the sense of danger. Just the feeling of knowing that I can get attacked at anytime is really fun. I also love world pvp but 97% I do PvE and farm and stuff. And that’s fine by me.
I usually only encounter horde dominated areas unless it’s raid day XD.
WPvP is just extremely unbalanced as it’s usually just one faction heavily outnumbering the other, so most people end up giving up.
I am on an RP-PvP realm and I abhor world PvP. I have never attacked a horde player and when attacked I just /sit to be critted and die faster.
Why am I on an RP-PvP realm? Because they have the best guilds to raid with. And the dungeon groups are the nicest, and there are least amount of paid boosts, spellcleaves etc. The presence of WPvP is a burden I have to bear to get all those perks and I choose to do so knowingly and willingly.
I can’t speak for RP-PvE, but I’ve seen next to no spellcleave parties on my PvE realm. Even while levelling my alts in November-December, I hardly ever went into a dungeon group (such as WC or ZF) without a hunter or rogue in the party.
And even now, LF sub-60 dungeons are about 40-50% of all the LF messages you’ll see on the global chat.
In fact, I personally find that PvE realms offer an overall better experience than PvP ones, in terms of raiding. You still get to clear content, but you also get to make friends and have a socially fulfilling experience instead of raiding with parsing drones.
I can feel what OP describes. Most of PvP realm players, are not into wPvP. The one that actually matters. Why do we farm instances? Ok, for the lore. Bad creatures attacking Azeroth. But is it only that? Farming gear, to be able to farm better gear? Bypassing your faction member being attacked by an enemy player? Not coming to help, when asked in chat? Not revenging gankers (its not a bad thing)?
I think you have to be RPlaying, to actually enjoy the full potential of WoW. Where are the Stormwind or Orgrimmar raids? Any PvP events? In PvP servers, there are almost none PvP guilds.
For me, gear have as an exclusive purpose, to defend or attack opponents. I think the game would be much more interesting, if we were more wPvP oriented.
Lore wise, it is not an open war. Thrall says that in a quest. I also can’t attack someone unprovoked.
But we can always find an excuse. He is farming my elementals…
KoS is the best way to “remember” who deserves to be ganked. And his/her friends.
It makes me sad, to see tier 2 players, waisting their gear in Orgrimmar. Go out, provoke. Or at least rush when someone is attacked.
I am Horde and I really enjoy world PvP, I hate ranked indoor PvP though, at least in Classic. I play on a PvP server because I couldn’t play on a PvE server where no one can kill you, instead of mobs. The feeling of warning/danger is critical to me in World of WARcraft.
