Neocron had shut down, Clan from there were suggesting I tried WoW and we were getting bored of Anarchy Online.

Curiosity really. I loved the genre anyway, having played Guild Wars before WoW, but I wanted to know why our clan members were leaving Call of Duty for WoW.

I loved playing Orcs vs Humans, as well as Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3.
When the expansions came out for those games, I bought them as well.

I fell in love with the world, the story and the characters, as well as the continuity of the three games that told a complete story.

When then I found out they were making an MMORPG, SWG was on its last legs, Ragnarok Online started to get boring, so I was looking for something new.
To then play a game set in the world I loved? I was sold since day one.

someone told me it was dying so i joined and now its alive again

My father was an old classic player, and I got introduced to the game in BC or WOTLK. I played it a good amount, although I rarely did anything endgame-worthy. And then around MOP, I quit until the beginning of SLs where I have been playing on and off until the present.

I also play alot of warcraft 3 RoC and TFT but I wasnt aware about a MMORPG about warcraft because in 2005… internet… meh… its not like now with my 10G optical fiber :dracthyr_crylaugh:

Its about time when games were in boxes and not everyone had ADSL :stuck_out_tongue:

I played Diablo II and wanted to transition to “the next big thing” that World of Warcraft looked to be. In particular it was the desire to be there from the start and get the whole experience from announcement and through the development leading up to the release itself, because that was something I had missed out on with Diablo II (my mother was apprehensive for a while about my teenage self playing a game with a demonic skeleton on the box cover).

Played lots of WC3 so was already a fan of Warcraft and read about WoW in a magazine which had a link where people could sign up for the beta. After playing that I was hooked

Weirdly enough, I played W3 but wasn’t in on the whole WoW craze when it came out. Back then it was all word of mouth for me, and it hadn’t reached me yet. Then a friend of mine posted the Here without you machinima on an italian forum about fantasy literature. At 14yo that stuff blew me away. I read up on the game, I watched the cinematic and I thought “I want to live into this virtual reality too”, and pestered my parents until they gave up and let me buy the game as well as a couple of months of play time.

When I was a kid, I I fell in love with Warcraft 1 and 2 but I did not own those games. We didn’t have a PC at home, so I played those on my friends computers. Later when we finally had a PC, I fell in love with StarCraft I and II. Years later I heard there is a multiplayer version on warcraft but I refused to play it.

Come Pre-Wrath and I saw that there is a 10 day free game period to try the game and I thought “Why not, I’ll give it a shot”. And here I am, all those years later still playing the game.

Believe it or not but South Park made me try it out. Not initially when it aired but a bit later. (Half way through TBC) I always thought people who played WoW were pretty cringe so I always scoffed at itm South Park made me try it for the lols and i have been here ever since.

I was told about it by a friends as he said your into dwarves and orcs and magic then saw an ad for it. Made it just before BC launched so it was a great time.

I grew with th OG warcraft games. Not that I really played Warcraft: Orcs & Humans as I was just a bebe, not really sure I ever finished WC2 but I played the first few levels a lot.
But then Warcraft 3 came along, now that was special. With all the amazing cinematics, I would watch those together with my brother every time they rolled over. I dont know how many hours I put into it and Frozen Throne but hundreds for sure.

After that I knew about WoW but could never play it, crap internet at first and the subscription was a no go, my parents would not invest in my gaming life. I always followed how it went, watched the cinematics, read the wiki from time to time. Wasn’t until BFA was launched that I finally decided to give it a go and here I still am.

Got a few friends from back then that still play too

Its good to see lots of “old” people still around!

Was a fan of War3(back in early-TBC era) and friends introduced me that there is an MMORPG version of it and I went “well…why the peanut not?”.

Very similar to you. It was the “in” thing at school, but i was a intermittent player. Played vanilla, BC, TLK but only ever hit max level in cata. Thought id “completed” the game so quit. Came back before WoD, hit max level in WoD then quit again. Came back BFA, missed shadowlands and then back just after DF released. Then i learned about mythic plus, how to get end game gear etc and dont plan on quitting any time soon. Personally i am a bit gutted that i never hit end game vanilla but i was a 14 year old kid. In school people would tell stories about knowing some who raids and being in awe lol
