First of all, elephants and by proxy mammoths are amazing animals. I absolute hate the thought of them getting killed. I could kinda deal with it, given that it is a game and they are just pixels but what does “tusk marrow” have to do with alchemy? Why can’t I collect some flowers, shake some shrooms, or lick some frogs? Why is it “chop those tusks” now for the third week in a row? ;-(
The worst part about this quest is you’re killing mammoths and only collecting one tusk per each unit when they have two. Make it realistic, Blizzard, fix asap!
In Alchemy, everything have a purpose or trait you need to add or extract or use
Thats Alchemy 101
It is totally in your right to hate it and thus don’t do it
No Blizzard employee satands next to your mom and hold a gun to her head and pull the trigger if you don’t do it
You will not miss that 3 point and tiny bit of Artisan repu on the grand scheme of things
I wonder tho’… Draenei hoof could be used as a substitute
Remember the Draenei Tail PvP token drop? “Draenei tails are a potent necromantic ingredient when ground finely”
We should… experiment!
Where is a Draenei… volunteer?
For sciene!
Agreed, it’s an unnecessarily violent quest. Justice for mammoths and elephants…or just a better drop rate, like I have to slaughter a field of mammoths to get 20 tusks…
It’s probably a reference to Chinese medicine, the main RL market for horns of creatures, be glad they’re not coming after Draenei yet, who knows what medicinal properties their horns have…
In all seriousness, WoW is at its core a game about killing creatures and taking their stuff, don’t think too deeply about it, take comfort in the fact that in WoW, the elephants respawn again within a minute or two. (To be killed again by the next person doing their Alchemy-weekly)
Either you have to farm tons of mobs that rarely drop the items you need… or you have to search for few mobs all across the zone to even find one that drops the quest item.
Then there are the other profession quests that are totally unbalanced: mining quests are always easy to do, require few materials on from those that are rare even less… skinning and herbalism on the other hand either want tons of mats turned in (40 leather in comparison to 20 ore, where ore is much easier to get) or 8! withebark, which is worth so much on the AH it’s really not worth those 3 knowledge points.
Enchating wants 2 easy crafted enchants one week, the next you have to craft 4 items that (again) require withebark, that is damn expensive and not even enchanting material…
They really need to go over these quests again and this time all profession devs should talk to each other, to bring them down to a similar level.
