I’m genuinely curious about this. I ask people what their least favorite race is, and the answer is always Gnome. I don’t get an explaination for that answer, except they’re “annoying” but I don’t see that?
They barely get any of the spotlight in the game and they haven’t been relevant since 8.2, which was a long overdue moment for the race because they had pretty much nothing prior. They’re ignored by the storywriters, but you find them “annoying”? It doesn’t make sense to me.
Gnomes are cool. I find Goblins annoying cause they ask money for everything and the inventions they make tend to blow up compared to the gnomes. The goblins have a cooler dance; but that’s about it.
I’ve played Gnomes before just to try it and they look funny which isn’t a reason to disqualify them I think. That being said:
Their voices are always squeeky, high-pitched or nasal. There’s no reason for why this should always be the case.
Their lore is almost exclusively quirky and is never taken seriously by writers even when opportunity presents itself. Even the few times where they have been taken to a more serious platform, it’s quickly undone by making fun of them moments later.
No, it shouldn’t always be taken seriously and I quite like a lot of the quirky stuff, but Gnomes are too much in the opposite end of the spectrum of never being taken seriously.
They’re honestly ugly as hell with their oversized ears, nose, heads and eyes. I don’t find them cute in the slightest either like some people do, which like I said isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn’t improve their situation.
Gnomes are the nerds of wow, they are unashamedly what they are, they love what they do and they’re seemingly oblivious to what others think of it.
I imagine for some this is why they either love or hate gnomes. I’ve never understood it myself. We’re playing a game where we have elves and fight monsters with swords and spells, trying really hard to look cool or edgey or avoid looking silly at all costs just seems like a road to nowhere to me.
I guess some people will find their appearance off-putting due to small mogs or their admittedly unsettling proportions. It’s probably more magnified on gnomes because they’re human-like, unlike say trolls or orcs.
I imagine a fair proportion of people dislike them because others dislike them. I mean we see this in wow with mythic+ and how people will see classes as unviable simply because they’ve heard such. Several people just go with whatever is popular to do.
Two exceptions tho. I have a soft spot for gnome warlocks and warriors for some reason.
But beyond that don’t particularly appreciate the race. Mechagnomes on the other hand are even worse for the same reason despite having pretty cool racials.
Hot take: the best way to look cool is to be totally comfortable with whatever you happen to be. Confidence is cool. Worrying about what others think a lot of the time is not terribly cool.
I disliked them, but the constant hate for them made me feel sorry for them because as a specie they aren’t really harmful. I think that they’re quite fun.
I was recently entertaining an idea to make a gnome reporter that has real news podcast.
Their gadgets are known for backfiring all the time.
Their king got flattened.
They lost their city to a madman
You save them from being “mechanized” in Northend
Jarraxus, remember that guy? incompetent gnome warlock who should’ve known better than to summon an eredar lord.
I don’t like any of the alliance races, never have nor will I ever. For me it’s a personal preferance, I am a true horde at heart and have been since 2005. When that’s said and if I try look past my horde bias view and look at the gnome race itself, I can come up with a few pro and cons. Pros: They are small and that feature can be pretty cool if you like such. Their weapons and mounts are big. Pink hair. Cons: they are small and their armor can look clunky. Their voices are high pitch some might hate.
Can’t think of much more, the gnome hate clouds my opinion.
i dont really hate any of the races, i just have very specific races i actually do play.
