Why does Blizzard never crit, even with Shatter?

What is the point of using Blizzard instead of Arcane Explosion then?

If you’re specced frost it can slow. It also has a much longer range than AE where you have to be next to mobs to use it.

Try rounding up 15 mobs using blizzard and then round up 15 more and only use arc explosion. Plz report findings here.

I think leeway works with arcane explosion making it possible to use it from further distance if done properly.

Sure, but leeway works both ways. Making it possibly for mobs to smack you around too.

It does not have such large range, arcane gets extra range, if you use cone of cold to slow them down and frost now now and then they should not be able to hit you.

If Blizzard could crit Mages would be completely busted.
More so than they are now.

I regularly farm ZF, generally hit instance cap in about 45 mins and I never press blizzard because it’s not as good.

Level 45 mobs vs mobs your level not missing or resisting all the time is alot different.

I mean I can do it in DM where the mobs are like 55-56 too, level doesn’t really matter.

True for most aoe farming in dungons you usually do flamestrike. CoC and AE.

Blizzard and Consecration does not crit.I think because they count as dot effects.

From talents alone you will be hit capped against anything that isn’t three levels higher or more. Against orange mobs you wouldn’t try to Blizzard grind anyway as chances are too high you’d have to abort pulls because something resisted the nova.

Perfect kiting with just Cone of Cold is entirely possible, including with Arcane Explosions weaved in. This is satisfying to do and it’s why I play mage in Classic and why I play Classic at all.

Except zullfarrack trolls, they resist a lot even against a level 60. Without additional hit its uncommon to pull more than 10 mobs without resists.
