This is very true. We log in to play, if we want to sociallize and look for friends - we usually look for some discord groups, etc.
no classic is pretty much the same.
âHelloâ
âCan I get a summon?â
âGG thanks for groupâ
Retail is dead socially. Forget about it, classic is what youâre looking for.
The only reason I play retail is because of my friends. If I were to casually play on my own itâd be classic 100%
Edit: seeing as some say itâs almost the same, itâs not. Iâve levelled 3 characters to 70 in tbc and enjoyed it very much. Itâs not like back in the olden days, sure. But itâs not nearly as soulless as retail
Been asking myself the same question, and if you do some high end content, you may get to the same conclusion as me.
Among other things I think itâs a byproduct of the rushing nature of the endgame. 15 legels of mythic plus, nobody talks because youâre trying to beat a timer, rush to get things done quickly because you need to do another dungeon after to upgrade your gear, get a drop etc.
The way the game works I think is a major reason why people donât talk anymore, so most people just got into the habit of well, getting things done quick because youâre always trying to get to a goal thatâs usually far away.
If you would like to have a banter with the party, you would do well to initiate it.
Retail WoW in instances is way too fast paced for people to stop attacking to banter if not given a stimulus.
From experience I know that at least few people will get in a talking mood if you give them opportunity.
Meanwhile a great time to banter is in places where people are mostly waiting like when fishing or waiting for spawns
Because Iâve done these dungeons so many times and I know Iâm never going to see you again and wonât get kicked for being silent.
And Iâm going to complete the dungeon regardless of how talkative I appear, as long as Iâm doing my job, because itâs so easy we donât even need a full party. âHelloâ wonât change anything in the outcome.
Itâs just a chore we all have to get through. We just want to reach max level for the 15th time.
And even when Iâm at max level, it doesnât get much better. The content is so accessible since itâs layered in difficulties (normal, heroic, mythic, keystone level 2 to infinity) that socializing is no longer required like it was in Classic Era. Your item level speaks for you. You just choose how high you want to go in the same content.
In mythic+ keystones people actually talk, sometimes, to discuss strategies, when to cast Bloodlust, where to skip enemies, or just to flame strangers. Thatâs about it.
Probably because youâre on auto-pilot or farming alt.
Outside of groups wasting XP by skipping bosses there is not much to be said.
The World of Warcraft is not really social in game. Has not been for years now. Several guilds are no different from solo play anyway.
its because 90% of the actual retail players are not mmorpg players anymore. They are moba players. So they play this game like they play a moba game. Stuff like this dont happen in classic wow for example. People there are very interactive everywhere.
This to my recollection started in WOTLK with automated queuing. If you combine it with dungeons that are stupid easy you get thid sort of behaviour.
@OP
Yes, it is mainly the fault of leveling being too fast, the dungeons being too easy, and because of the queue-able nature of dungeons. In classic this is different because you still have to walk to dungeons, and have to take breaks between pulls, so there is more time to socialize.
I personally only write in a /greet and then off I zoom, otherwise I just get dragged along by the local evoker/priest healer who is already pulling.
I usually greet people, but I also see why most people donât in leveling dungeons. We are talking about 10 min of content that you are most likely doing for hours on end in repetition. At some point, you just treat it as standard procedure, queue pops, you load in, you finish dungeon, you head out.
