I feel that one of the main issues with visions is that they teach you to do a wrong thing.
At first monsters are not treating at all and die before have any chance to introduce their mechanics, but you on a strict time limit, you running out of sanity fast, have a few ways to replenish it, you have to pull big it encourages “go-go-go” mentality.
Then you upgrade the cloak get the researches, starting Masked runs - you have plenty of time to take one pack at a time, to do all the mechanics, sometimes just wait for CDs, while eating K’Bab on CD, but you already taught to do the wrong thing.
The main learning curve here is to adapt to the new completely different set of rules.
I do also really hate visions and corruption. My solution is just to skip them! Just collect the cloak and do the first five visions, boom rdy for SL! Easy and really fast way to get in better mood!
They are content designed to be challenging and to be a testing grounds for blizzard.
But what many, many, many, many and I repeat many players don’t get is.
These things are originally 1-5 man content as in they have to be designed for solo players too and they can give a reward for up to 470 ilvl, which is almost mythic quality gear.
Because, this is how it is on mythic raiding, only difference is when you mess up, there is someone to back you up / cover up for you.
I doubt, and I extremely doubt that 1 mistake in 5 masks can mean it’s over.
Because you’ve got cooldowns, cheat deaths and only very few abilities in there can one shot.
What people deem as 1 mistake is usually a series of mistakes that they didn’t account for.
You pulled 5 packs and got stunlocked? well, that’s 5 mistakes + the mistake of not dodging + them mistake of not ccing + the mistake of not targeting the dangerous enemy.
They’re not one small single little mistake.
What people also don’t get is blizzard choose the easiest most player friendly method of amping up the difficulty…
They didn’t amp the difficulty by adding deep mechanics, or adding many one shot abilities, they didn’t amp it by making hard requirements and checks that if not met = wipe… no they choose the simple option of just keep dodging crap.
What people also don’t get is, this type of content is made to please the players that want a challenge, they want difficult hurdles to pass and they want risk vs rewards.
There is plenty and I mean PLENTY of other non challenging content, why can’t we get one type of challenging content for us players that like to challenge themselves is beyond me?
You don’t wanna get CCed? stunned? feared? and just want moving target dummies? well go do world quests, they’re pretttty suitable for you.
As for the back upgrades, you can go for 0 mask runs where you can pretty much take a nap and wake up then continue without ever being at risk.
No one is sitting behind you with a gun pointed at your head if you don’t get the achievement.
This type of thinking is lame, toxic and honestly the worst to come out of the modern gaming community.
A game is there to be fun, it has challenges in it.
If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.
That’s like those articles complaining Sekiro was too hard or the articles complaining that darksouls has only 1 difficult that is too hard.
You don’t go buy a basket ball and then complain that you can’t score the ball.
Hint : plenty of instant gratification games out there where all you have to do is click one button to get 999999999 gold, 99999 level and 999999999 power pick whatever you like.
I tend to find them really frustrating so I feel your pain OP.
As a demonology warlock, I sometime get this nagging feeling that the whole place was designed to show off all my specs weaknesses (and there are many) and none of its qualities (few as they are). I realize I should probably just switch to affli or destro and roll with that, but I can’t bring myself to do it yet.
Now see - I’d disagree here. I have a really hard time on my melee toons where’s I have found Mage much easier. I think though it’s because I know my Mage class better than all the others.
I don’t think it’s as simple as saying “x has it easier than y” - I think it’s more akin to what you’re most familiar with.
I’ve stopped doing Visions the moment I upgraded my Legendary Cloak to max.
I’m saving my nerves and indeed I avoid getting stressed out, especially in a video game.
I tried 5 mask run and I didn’t like it, particularly as I have no room to test myself and fix my mistakes. Grinding Vessels, failing Visions, having to regrind Vessels is just not the kind of content that is fun for me.
I’m ok with mechanics and whatnot punishing you for mistakes, but being limited as to how many tries I can do is just horrid.
Sooo I just removed myself from Visions and I doubt I’ll do them ever again.
and its ok - just like mythic raiding is not for everyone , and even in mythic raiding CE is not for everyone the same in visions 5 masks is not for everyone.
and its a good thing.
if people have self control over what they are doing with their time.
My type of thinking? Really? Are you serious? Do you know at least what “type” of game WoW is? It’s a pure collectible MMORPG game and nothing else. Everything in this game revolves on collections: achievements, mounts, pets, toys, etc. That’s why Blizz introduced this “scarcity mentality” in the game, to add value to your account depending on what content and achievements you did in the past. That’s why old content like Legendary Weapon from Legion or the cloack from Pandaria and many more where removed, so that new players are purposely punished for missing that content. That’s why old achievements are removed and turned into Feats of Strenght, so that new players can’t complete them. That’s why, once at every 2 years (when a new expansion releases) all your character progress is deleted and you start from 0 all over again. There is no continuity to the game and character progression (gear, skills, talents, etc) except the lame storyline that became more and more boring with each expansion.
A true MMO has the purpose to progress your char indefinitely and with each expansion your char evolves more and more.
And talking about visions, why do you think you see only Rogues and Demon Hunters boosting visions? Have you seen a mage or a ele shaman? No. Why? Because the content is difficult for these classes.
And i repeat:
Yes it is do-able, but if you compare a DH and a shamy doing the same vision with 5 masks, the DH has net ease superiority. Casters are more “vulnerable” to CC mobs than meelers and you know it. Unlike classes like DH that have almost 80% of their skills instant+ more heals and recovery, etc, casters have casting time. That means sometimes they need to cancel the casts to avoid certain dangers, waste more time, avoid more mechanics, etc. And as we both know, one mistake, a wrong stun received or something, can end your chance to finish the vision. And then you wasted 10 k coalescence things that took you 4 days to farm, just because you’re caster.
Where is the challenge to complete the same map, against the same mobs, for countless times just to gather 100k mementos? This is not a challenge, this is a grind.
And here we go again…retard mode. Gz…you’re one of the millions of retards that inhabit this planet for no reason.
I am well geared for it yet it still infuriates me with how RNG it is, such as getting Feared+Disoriented into them copies of you ontop of Sanity depriving pools…
Absolutely!
I don’t see why I should force myself to do something I’m not enjoying.
There’s plenty of content in WoW that makes me happy, so indeed I build my own happiness and fun here!
I do look forward to Torghast, it’s looking mighty awesome.
I hate Horrific Visions, especially because they require so, so much grinding just for 2-3 weekly runs. F that. But even if one could do them as often as one wants, like M+, I wouldn’t want to do them because it’s boring, repetitive solo content. M+ is way more fun.
I just hope that Thorghast thing in Shadowlands won’t have an entry fee that requires grinding.
lmaoooo just git gud bro
no but on a serious note, i believe that visions were very haphazardly thrown together and they didnt have time to make actual combat mechanics so they made ‘‘annoyance’’ mechanics instead
if you look at torghast for example there are very few abilities on the enemies that interact with your movement, instead the mobs behave more like traditional dungeon/raid mobs, so the whole Fear->Stun->Disorient->Fear->Horror->Stun thing is a visions only thing
I presume that’s why you didn’t completed a 5 mask vision yet? Right? Because you feel it’s too easy for you, so you don’t even bother to do it. Right?
I am 100% sure it will have a “entrance fee” that requires grind. Otherwise in Blizz’s eyes (that usually loves to punish their players) it would be too easy.
