FF14 Is getting BTFO by WoW on the twitch viewers at the moment if that’s anything to go by, WoW on 44k, FF14 Way down at 15k viewers even below Diablo 3
Twitch viewers are not a really good litmus test to have, especially seeing as WoW has more E-Sport elements to attract viewers, while FF14 doesn’t and is more of a story-driven RPG.
A better comparison would be queue times. How fast can you log into WoW compared to FF at 2PM on a Sunday?
I can tell you for a fact that my Sunday took me 3-4 hours to finally log in. If I were to log into WoW I think it would be no wait at all
WoW has about 20x as much server capacity as ff14 genius but if you want to rock around in your flying car with your Lalafell waifu or go virtual clubbing and erping with 40 year old men playing female avatars as your endgame content then more power to ya
Youre right, wow pvp isnt balanced either but ff14 pvp is just so bad. So so so bad. Me as a pvper have absolutely nothing to do in ff14 once the story is done.
Well then, why is it that when I pop over to look at the screen of my mom (Who is still playing WoW), I see her for the most part alone in zones or very few people in Oribos? If the game were to have “20x as much server capacity”, you’d probably see tons more people around.
The latter part of your post is quite cute, but makes you look like a freak.
People are within multiple shards/layers even on the same servers and people actually do content other than standing around in cities in your favourite french maid glamour as in FF14.
Suppose you go to a party and notice that a guest has dog poop in his shoe. The more you think about it, the more uncomfortable you get. When you experience this distortion, you focus on the negative aspects of a situation, while ignoring the positive aspects.
Soon the whole situation looks negative. “The steak is burnt - the meal is ruined!”.
A solution to this habit is to reexamine your options: “What pleasing things could I still find to enjoy?”, “What would I think on a good day?”, “How would someone with a sound mind view this situation?”
Considering FFXIV servers are a lot smaller and there’s much fewer, again not a good comparison.
Plus, there’s already enough complaint about WoW queues. WoW classic release is a nice example given it had fewer servers on launch despite having a higher ‘max capacity’ than FFXIV does.
It’s this magical thing called ‘sharding’ and ‘cross-realm zoning’.
Also, suppose you had an unusual magnifying glass that magnified some things (like your faults and mistakes, or the strengths of others) and shrunk others (like your strengths, and the mistakes of others). In comparison to others, you would always seem inadequate or inferior – always coming out on the short end of the stick.
For example, you say to a friend “‘TORGHAST? Pff-pff-pf, that was RUBBISH! LOL! By the way, there is a thing called Cathedral of the Dead where you can just keep playing!’” minimizing the strengths of the WoW.
Your friend replies “…but WoW is an excellent family home friendly game. You have a lot of fun playing it. What do you get in Cathedral of the Dead?”. To which you respond “‘Cool looking gear!” and "there’s lots and lots and lots of old dungeons and raids!!’’ magnifying other strengths.
A way to challenge this distortion is to ask “Why must I compare? Why can’t I just appreciate that each game has unique strengths and weaknesses?”.
Another game’s contributions are not necessarily better, just different.
If a new player starts in bfa they wont understand the lore behing magni bronzebeard or have any clue who he is or what his race is all about. Also at best they gonna think a dwarf with tattos and feathers comes from ironforge. In ffxiv you are meant to know the story and take part of the journey.
You can say 14 respects your time - it does if you’re max level. At this point you’re free to dip in and dip out of things for sure. If you’re a new player, looking at the task of levelling from 1-90 before you can do the latest raids and dungeons, its a huge mission, especially as this is a story-first MMO where completing the story in the entirety is a requirement before you can do the latest and greatest content. Also, while the story is great in places, there are a hugeeeee amount of boring fetch quests and lots and lots of text reading and long cutscenes - many people don’t make it beyond ARR for that reason. But I guess if you’re not in a hurry to reach max level, it’s ok?
14 has other elements to keep you subbed, like a tiny tombstone cap per week (usually 450) which will buy you the best-ish gear, but it will take you two weeks to save up for a chest or leg piece. Also, Savage loot can only be gotten once per week (before they unlock it 9 months later) and you can go week after week being unlucky on rolls and get nothing (which is another means to keep you subbed). Also to own a house there’s a minimum period you must stay subbed, or you lose the house and the plot - so they still want your money.
So in a sense it does value your time in that you can do your weekly clears, you can log off and do something else - but do most MMO players want to do this, or do they want something more from their game?
