Why is blizzard trying to remove flying from the game

Jesus Christ i do too. Running around on foot is one of the biggest time sinks that just makes me not wanna play at times. I am not hyperbolic.

You misremember completely. “We” had no say in it at all.

Blizzard decided they want us to see the world from the ground. It was one of those unilateral “We, the devs feel” from Mr Ion I never listen Hazzikolosisisis.

That’s pretty much what it was, in their grand “vision”.

Well, almost no one wanted that as far as i can tell, for some reason the devs do.

I find the whole being grounded creates social interaction thing to be a big myth. I very rarely converse with any random stranger I’ve run into, even groups don’t really talk much other than the odd pleasantry thanking them for the group.

It might be a whole different kettle of fish if people are on an RP realm but there are a lot of non RP players on those realms too.

I mean part of Ions “grand vision” was to remove the max zoom to make “combat more engaging and feel epic”.

What he ended up achieving is creating raid encounters where tanks see nothing but a bosses crotch and a close up lights display that probably encourages epileptic fits.

Lol, what the f? Seriously?

Actually, i do remember max zoom being longer once, but i think i solved it by tweaking some numbers in one of the folder files i think. I have a vague memory. I think it was in bfa.

I miss being able to zoom out that much, it’s fine as ranged you’re a fair distance from boss, but like you say we are mostly looking at the groin or bottom of a boss. Sometimes a knee :joy:

Yes, seriously, we can’t zoom out as far as we used to be able to. There were threads hundreds of pages long about it.

Their stance was because it was a script it gave some people an unfair advantage because they had more information. A non idiot would have made it possible to zoom out further without a script to remove the unfair advantage.

This is part of why I pretty much discount anything that Ion says. He’ll never be caught in an outright lie, hes too well trained or slimy for that, but its just an accumulation of mind blowingly dumb little things where he outright ignores feedback.

If I were engaged enough I’m sure I could write a book, but I no longer am!

Well that excuse rates up there with the whole we can’t have a pvp vendor because people can’t find it rubbish.

Unfair advantage? Just zoom out further? Like is that even a problem?

You want to be more up close, that is your decision, and if it comes with some downsides, live with it, like wtf.

Ion reasoning is mind boggling.

Unfair, advantage, like brah, have you tried zooming further out?

What’s next having a higher res monitor is an unfair advantage so resolution is locked at 1080p?

We used to have a 50 yard max distance. Then they brought it in to …26? 30? After outcry, they brought it out to 39. That followed the familiar Blizzard MO for unpopular nerfs that they know EVERYBODY will dislike.

For most people, it seems to be an annoyance. For me, it’s rather more. Do they care?

Hm? Where? Where in Shadowlands is there any - even potential - gameplay we’re missing?

I’m just been thinking about the whole map. There are the elite areas on the way to the 250 Anima Callings and World Bosses, but I’m drawing a blank other than that. And while those 4 elite areas have a potential to affect gameplay - unless you are a tank spec or using a barding, ofc - I do not find them persuasive. Daze may be justified, but it is never fun.

I fundamentally believe they’ve lost sight of the “Will this change improve someones experience (without damaging the game” or “Is this fun” kind of questions that should be front and centre.

Noone ever logged in after the zoom in change and said “man, this feels better!”. It hurt no-one and the “advantage” it construed was available to anyone competitive enough to care. It also infuriates me that Blizz can never ever in a million years just say “we hear ya!” and leave it. They have to completely overdo the adjustment, then half revert it and make the player base believe they scored a win.

Theres a litany of these unintended consequence things that cause needless friction. The ability to (gasp, wait for it) reroll M+ keys was removed. Who was this harming? What a great QoL! No wonder the “fun detected, fun removed” memes abound.

I’m probably just a jaded vet atm, I’ve not looked into valor much but that has the whiff of the half measures too (can’t upgrade 9.0 stuff cos super complicated technical reasons /waves hands!)

Becouse munts make world smaller, removes sense of the world and possible player intearctions and also allows for skiping mobs and possible danger on the ground. Flying was never good feature. And anyone what think flying isnt in the game becouse Blizz wants us waste time walking clearly isnt mmorpg player.

If mounts makes the world feel smaller, then why does the TBC thru Cata zones feel expansive?

Because they are designed with some breathing room between the key locations. MoP started to cut back on it and now zones are designed to be way too claustrophobic.

Flying should be unlocked at max level + discover all areas + exalted with the major reps and thats it.
As it is, its just frustrating and adds nothing to the game.

For Blizzard is good, its just extra MAU’s.

They dont. In moment you hop on flying mount entire world starts feel way smaller.

I don’t think thats a bad thing.

Because sadly you have just answered one of the biggest narrow minded trolls on the forum who repeats “you do not want or know what an MMO is”

TBC flying was perfect i wouldnt waste your time on answering him again he will just derail the thread into he is right and everyone else is wrong and never back it up with facts .

That kind of thing was mostly reserved for vanilla and TBC, I haven’t seen it in a long time.

Even when I installed classic to try the old experience out - again. I did not see it happening in classic as it did vanilla days.
