Sorry I completely disagree. It’s scientifically proven that Alcohol is worse for you than weed. Both will have negative impacts on your life if they are abused the same goes for anything in life, everything in moderation. However someone that smokes 2 joints a night is going to be a lot better off health wise than someone who drinks a crate of beer everynight or a half a bottle of spirits.
Weed’s harmful side effects can effect people with underlying mental health problems and make them worse but in comparison to Alcohol which destroys brain cells and kills your liver then its no comparison.
Also if people smoke weed without tobacco via a vape or a blunt then they are going to be a lot healthier than someone who smokes joints with tobacco in.
What you mentioned is in my opinion exactly what makes weed so dangerous. Weed is dangerous precisely because it isn’t.
The man who gets drunk every single day won’t be able to hold down a job and he might even die.
The man who smokes everyday can still function.
So you get lulled into a dependence. You still function but over time you forget that you in fact used to function a lot better. Weed is so mild that you don’t really notice how your mind gets slower, you don’t really notice how you lose your friends, you don’t notice how you stop going out socialising.
Eventually you do notice and then anxiety hits, sadly that’s often the point were people latch onto even harder stuff to fill the void.
A portion of my childhood friends are today amphetamine addicts and I figure it all started with us smoking weed at the ages of 14-15. I eventually chose friends, girlfriends and studies, they chose weed.
I have a similar experience with friends who used to smoke weed when they were younger.
It always goes in obvious stages from what I’ve seen and had to deal with in my friend group:
Stage 1 is the confidence stage, they’re doing drugs and god damn does it make them feel cool and rebellious.
If you don’t also smoke weed this is the part where they start drifting away from your social clique.
Stage 2 is the “I can quit whenever I want” stage and is when things usually start going downhill. They’re incredibly boring when not high and complete liabilities when they are high, as a result people are reluctant to invite them to social events and you can’t have a decent conversation with them since their pre-frontal cortex is swiss cheese at this point and derealisation is starting to set in.
Stage 3 is the point where they’re pretty much gone, they have no money to go out (not that you’d want to go out with them now anyway) because they spend it all on weed, they’re completely dependent on being high to even function and fly into a panic when they run out and they’re living on the dole because they can’t hold down a job/no one wants to hire them.
They’re usually on a different drug at this point because weed doesn’t cut it anymore, usually amphetamines.
This is why I think weed is far more dangerous than alcohol, because at least with a frequent alcohol intake the effects become very obvious very quickly.
Is it extremely useful for it’s medicinal effects and treating some forms of cancer? Sure, but that doesn’t mean that it’s healthy to smoke it 24/7.
Most are my friends who smoked with me when I was 14-15 are now enjoying success in life with good jobs and stable relationships and they still smoke to this day.
As I said everything in moderation, one joint a night isn’t going to turn you into a bumbling idiot however it may do if you smoke 10 joints a day every day of the week.
Another thing to add is weed affects us all in different ways and we all have different tolerances to it. I’ve got friends who love lighting up before they go to the gym or are about to do an outdoor activity like mountain biking or hiking but then I also have friends that as soon as they smoke they become a paranoid wreck and want to stay in and watch South Park while eating junk food or have a few tokes and end up passing out If it has a negative effect on your life then those people should consider quitting but for a lot of people they can smoke and function just fine.
Yes you’re talking about people who have abused the drug. Go and talk to someone who is a heavy alcoholic you won’t be able have a conversation with them either because they’ve fried their brains drinking and often have tremors from DT.
And while the effects of Alcohol become apparent more quickly than those smoking weed the difference is that Alcohol I’d an addictive drug which makes it harder to stop even when you know its causing your body problems whereas weed is not, you can get addicted to the habit but not the actual drug itself.
Well from my personal experience Alcohol is still much worse. Ive been smoking weed since I was 15 and was smoking it very heavily when I was 18-20 and I saw the effects it had which was mainly just poor memory even when not high… I gave it up for a while and cut down and it ceased to be a problem.
Then on the other hand my best friend is an alcoholic, he’s been drinking since high school and is now 27 and I can clearly see the damage it has done to him… His memory is completely shot, he suffers from the shakes and sweats if he hasn’t had a drink in a few hours and he is less aware of what is happening around him.
As for me I don’t really have any adverse effects from weed other than perhaps memory sometimes trying to think of the correct word to use in a given situation can take me a second or so longer but the effects of my own weed abuse is much less severe than my friends with alcohol.
So as I said originally they can both have negative effects on you if you abuse them but overall Alcohol does a lot more damage than weed. I’ll stand by that.
My thoughts exactly! ran mara last night and our hunter was stoned AF, is the game really that bad people have to resort to getting stoned just to play it
it still looks like denial and doesn’t help the cause of wiid consumption. Like a heavy drinker that would tell you that crack is worse than beer to jutify his behavior: he would just sound like even more of an alcoholic.
And those two drugs are so hard to compare.
alcohol being used by +80% of the population while wiid by ~3-5% (may vary by contry), it would have to create an insanely high ratio of violence/damage to even being to be relatively higher than wiid.
Otoh for wiid, a significant % of the problems/violence caused are due to the fact that it is illegal, skewing numbers again.
And then the social stigma/acceptance causing differences again in behavior.
Not really. Any serious science on the subject are based on relatively calculated measures, percentages of a given number of People who are (ab)using a specific substance each.
Still, alcohol will top the list when it comes to “Harms to others” aka violence/murder/rape/Family violence ++
And it is up there when it comes to “Harm to user” aka physical and mental damages to the (ab)user. Beaten by a heroine, crack and metamf (Banned the correct Word) and comparable to kokaine (Blizz actually banned the c Word for it) , amphetamine and tobacco.
Wiid is far below alcohol on both terms of scales, and there is a number of different substances between them in Counts of how Dangerous a substance is to a human being and its surroundings.
Stigma is a typical thing. If i tell my Family that i got drunk yesterday, got into a fight, puked on a innocent guy, maide a lot of noise in the city and got thrown in the drunken-arrest by the police, they would probably have a laugh and say “Haha yes i remember myself one time drinking moonshine and……”
If i say i had a joint, watched some Movies, ate som Food and fell to sleep, they would want to throw me in the nearest jail and throw away the key.
Where do you get your facts from? Because I can tell you right now without actually looking at any data that way more than 5% of the population smokes weed.
Is all you do spout out complete bullcrap? Weed affects your pre frontal cortex now? Do you live in some 20 century village where information travels slow or do you just choose to have these misinformed beliefs about weed?
Weed has only been shown to affect your brain when used in huge amounts as a teenager, guess what also affects your brain if used in huge amounts as a teenager? Every drug!
You talk about your friends that started smoking weed and then went to harder drugs like that’s proof weed is the thing that led hem to do it, but why were they smoking weed as teens? How was their family life? Were they abused? Doing drugs as a teenager is not something a kid with a good family and support system simply does. There’s always problems behind substance use and saying they did it because it was “cool” is another of your moronic misinformed views.
“This is my personal experience so it must be the universal truth of the matter” That’s your idea? I have friends and relatives who smoke weed/hash every day, they hold high paying jobs. Some of them have a more socially active life than others, just like people who don’t smoke have varying social lifes.
“This is why i think weed is far more dangeorus than alcohol” Yes, just ignore the facts and hold antiquated and simply moronic beliefs about something just because you “think” it is.
