And that’s perfectly fine.
You sound burnt-out.
So you probably should take some time off.
Well right now, the forums are unusable, because ever sensible post is drowned out by an angry wall of QQ from people who were persuaded to roll on PvP servers without having any comprehension of what PvP servers are like.
As long as this situation persists, it’s increasingly difficult to be civil.
If I check the forums, I do so because I’m after information about the game, and the people who play it. These endless walls of identical QQ are little more than spam.
Funny how you compare it to other forums.
I used to own one of the most popular servers on another video game.
Kids like these were banned and people had respect for each other and set up real life meetings weekly.
There is a difference between a pup like blizz who doesn’t enforce rules and forums that care about their community.
There is also a difference between a kid behind a keyboard and someone who imposes respect. Most of these kids behind keyboards will never ever have respect from others. If their goal is to be the ultimate bashing freak behind the keyboard, well… bashers are easily forgotten.
If i go back on the server i used to own, which i did after 6-7 years, they still know me and even people that were not there when i used to be, heard of me.
I see books just as much waste of time as games imo. What matters is to do what you enjoy and not overanalyze if it’s “worth it”.
To be honest, this place is quite worse compared to many forums. One problem is people think complaining here about their issues will get Blizzard to solve stuff, so that gets a lot of people posting only when they have complaints. And they do not bother to check if there are not already 15 similar posts.
But also in general, people who not agree with others in here seem to find it very hard to discuss with just arguments, leaving out insults. Their own opinion and play style is the only correct one, and anyone not agreeing is an idiot who needs to learn to play.
Non official forums/group tend to be much more positive, informative and humorous.
Pick a game that released for early access recently and join that forum for 2 weeks.
You’ll be surprised how similar it is.
You’re correct about single server/unofficial forums, so is the guy above.
Because those are the people you’ll be interacting with.
And even then, with our population per server, even that hardly matters.
I think I’ve seen Kork run around once since launch.
There’s hardly any incentive to be civil.
You do realise that by referring to other people as “normal” you’re actually insulting the usual posters of this board and are thereby adding to the toxicity that you’re whining about?
In your own words; I ask you this:
Blame Blizzard.
You get the kind of culture you choose to cultivate and Blizzard is not alone among game companies in failing so badly on this, they just seem to be among the worst. It’s not even the case that they ‘allow’ it to happen with a passive, hands-off approach, it’s something they actively do even whilst being in denial.
So they join other game companies in announcing measures to ‘combat toxicity’, owning up to no failure on their own part. Often these measures are designed to get attention but not address any problems: automated-bans on using bad words for instance often apply more to the groups they superficially claim to protect than anyone else. Racists for example cover for themselves in layers of irony and innuendo, which even human but basic AF community moderators can’t pick up on let alone automated systems. Meanwhile young people especially belonging to a protected characteristic often use disparaging terms about each other and often not as an expression of hostility.
This is by no means just ‘the natural state of things’ or ‘welcome to the internet’, as if there are no friendly and welcoming communities anywhere to be found. There are, it’s just they tend to do the exact opposite of what I’ve described above.
People are incredibly defensive on this forum because Classic is apparently a child that needs to be coddled and protected at all costs.
This forum? You mean every game forum that has fans and haters?
I might look toxic because I tease people sometimes, doesn’t mean it’s something bad. When people are together they point jokes at each other all the time, I think its alright as long as nobody takes it too seriously.
No, this is 10 times worse. No other game forum is so incredibly resistant to change than this forum.
As one who’s been on the internet since the mid 90s, I can tell you it’s gotten exponentially worse over the years. The closest to an actual answer I’ve found, and I’m not saying it’s the (whole) truth. Is the fact that each “generation change” have taken a great leap towards worse, and I see the same reflected in society and everyday life.
Part of it seems to simply be that kids are less and less brought up with proper manners. Which in turn boils down to parents spending too much energy else where, more and more being pushed and manipulated into leaving the upbringing of their kids to kindergarten teachers and later teachers. Look around you, everybody seems increasingly stressed out and on edge, which is also part of the explanation, as well as causing collateral.
With the stress, which btw is also a problem among kids not just adults, comes an increasing feeling of frustration and powerlessness. People look to the web for a distraction from everyday stress and frustration, only to find more of it there. So they vent their frustration, stress and anger there because it’s there, it’s easy and it gives the illusion of being heard by others, a need which is part of our pack-animal basis. But the people there, have enough in their own problems, and can’t deal with other peoples problems as well. And so frustration turns to lashing out.
A lot of people try their best to help each other, but it’s just all too much, and even the best of intentions turn toxic at some point.
maybe because the whole foundation of classic wow is t oget back what was changed into something disgusting.
If u don’t get that, rip
See, thats what I mean.
You call a game still enjoyed by thousands “disgusting” because you dont like the way it is now.
Because other game forums are for games that thrive on evolution? This is a forum for a game that’s already happened, one that’s old and took us a decade’s worth of campaigning to get?
Why would we want to risk throwing all of that away for a few changes?
I don’t see it more toxic than early access game devs being flamed when game has bugs and isn’t fully functional.
People can think strawberries are disgusting.
Should they just continue eating strawberries because they’re not allowed to be disgusted by something?
Flaming devs is one thing, flaming others for not enjoying certain aspects of the game is another.
What is wrong with that? calling tomato’s disgusting while being enjoyed by millions is wrong too? I cant say that? I cant have my own opinion because others have theirs?
See whos toxic here now.
See the actuall problem with people thinking others are toxic while they are it themselfs.
