Why is there still a Subscription fee

Wow will become f2p and wow has already an option to f2p , what are people on about ?

Token technically and broadly speaking, is not making the game free to play. Someone has to pay 20 Euros and put it up on the Auction House for someone else to get their free subscription. If no one paid the 20 Euros, no one would be able to get free game time.

Yes, vanity items. Do you want EA-style loot-boxes, because that’s the destination to your train of thought.

It’s ok. You can play some other P2W game out there!

Recently AION became p2w so there’s a perfect game for him.

other MMOs, the “free to play” ones eat by pushing people into their cash shop as often as they can with P2W and other nonsense.

No piece of software will ever be bug free, that’s no reason to get it free.

Like, can I get a Photoshop 2020 lifetime license for free because it has and has had bugs? Nope.

its already operated like a f2p game with mictrotransactions, you just happen to pay for it monthly

That makes me think you never actually played a f2p game.

To give you an example of a game charging for the lot, here is what you can get in SWTOR using your money:

  • A subscription unlocking loads of new things you couldn’t normally.
  • Cartel coins to buy unlocks, boosts, stronghold items, Weapons, armor sets, dyes and so much more.

This isn’t terrible since you can get 100 for the auth and 500 for having a sub. But a weapon costs like 500CC anyway so.

I’ve played an awful lot of MMO’s and I haven’t yet found one that’s totally bug or glitch free.

You seem to be suggesting that WoW goes F2P and if you get a sub then you get a bug free game which is a ridiculous thing to say.

What you’re getting for your sub is access to the servers and the services (in this case the game) supplied by Blizzard.

Without a sub Blizzard would need to create another revenue stream and we would start seeing loot boxes with keys for sale in the cash shop. An intrusive and immersion breaking cash shop and the community would go south rapidly. As well as a host of other unpleasant things added to the game purely to generate income with no thought or regard to lore or gameplay

Pretty sure I could sue them if they just take everything on my account without me having broken any rules.

Nope, you own nothing on your account, al, you pay for is access to the servers. Thry could close the servers tomorrow, and there is nothing that could be done.

All this is explained on the pages you read before clicking accept…you did read those pages didn’t you?

A couple of items every few months aren’t anywhere close to F2P operation. F2P operation would be several new mounts/transmogs/minis/toys/other stuff every week, with major patches being 90% reliant on the cash shop.

Other MMO’s are free to play but with some limitations but also have a subscription as well. Like ESO has better XP from quests and all, free monthly in-game currency, free expansion as long as you keep subscribing or you’re back to last expansion. Those that don’t subscribe basically have to buy each expansion that comes out.

But even free MMO’s have to make money to keep servers and all running. Everyone does it differently or give a choice to pay one way or another. Mostly the subscription way has better bonuses that what WoW has but WoW doesn’t have a free to play model.

I’m paying a subscription fee so I don’t have to deal with deliberately confusing premium currency models and microtransactions priced so meticulously to manipulate you into spending more and more. All of the time, games harassing you with their shop in every interface screen. Compared to literally every other live service, without an exception, WoW has the one Shop button that is easy to ignore… and even it doesn’t hold anything really interesting. Just the occasional mount, and it’s sold… for real money. Not for Platinum, or “gems”. I’m paying so I don’t get harassed by the game endlessly.
