Why it is rude to be bad at the game

Personally It’s not rude to be bad at a game everyone started somewhere. What is rude is when people become toxic as fk because they think everyone should be a veteran the second they log in to the game.

I get where people are coming from about +10 or higher mythic keys that is understandable. But the levels of toxicity in the lower key levels and just normal dungeons etc is still there.

First day I played I had to do a BFA dungeon with the trex thing as first boss for a quest this was on my lock. I was still learning and the toxicity I saw against the tank (he was around entry level same as me) from higher leveled players in that dungeon was unbelievable.

It’s annoying when you join a group and you don’t do what your main role is for.

Had this a few times in lfr yesterday 5 healers not one was doing any healing, ok I can live with bare minimum healing since my demon can proc quite often (main is a DH playing as DPS) but when the tank dies and it’s left to the melee dps’s because the healers don’t heal is annoying to holy hell.

Are/can players be toxic oh hell yeah. Since pre-patch 2 dropped tanks are a limited resource so to get a couple of dungeons in I switch my DH to tank spec ( iv never tanked and never plan to) for a couple of dungeons which included a +2.

First run went fine no issues then came a fresh group for the +2 I explained I was new to tanking (ran the dungeon a few times before as DPS) so I might make mistakes.

So yes I screwed up on my key pulled too much forgot to pull a boss and one guy went completely toxic, the other guys were fine and tried to give me pointers but that 1 guy and his attitude towards a newbie tank (Again I have never intentionally ran as a tank before) has completely put me off for even trying it.

Overall it has given me a small insight to tanks and given me a bit for respect for them doing their jobs.

Oh and I’m not a very in the game iv played for about 3-4 months so in terms of wow I’m still a newbie trying to catch up on everything.

By gathering your own mats you’re killing of the AH market.

Your greed is putting the AH goblins out of a safe income!

And that gold you’re hoarding like a dragon would have stimulated the economy!

Roflmao!!

Well I suppose there really is no benign actions in a world, the same goes for reality…
Terry Pratchett a fabulous writer stated that the only way you could really do no harm is by sitting on your hands in a dark cellar, and even then you’d probably be guilty of loitering…

I don’t necessarily hoard gold, but you have reminded me that I do need to clear our my rat pack collections before DF hits, so thanks for that (hugs)

Good ol Terry, loved his Discworld series.

Oh me too…me too…
Just recently we watched all the documentaries he did before he passed, and I am not all ashamed to admit that I cried a lot…

He is very much missed, always good to meet a fellow “Kevin” (more hugs)

He was my first fantasy book writer.

Interesting Times, Cohen the barbarian and his “Horde”! :scream:

Yes he’s a good character, I liked the idea of “returning fire to the gods” it was a typical Cohen idea.

I tend to prefer the Witches and the Watch more, but all his books are very special

I rarely encounter toxicity when doing m+ at any level.

Signing for BFA dungeons when levelling on the other hand… Holy, that place is a cesspool. Especially if you get freehold and there’s people who want to skip and people who don’t. I’ve encountered a lot more toxicity in the BFA dungeons when levelling than in m+.

Weatherwax was a very unique character 4sure.

Sadly he passed away before he could finish the last books about the witches.

:pensive:

Part of the fun is learning off others and teaching others. It’s what makes the game social.

You’re right, veterans do tend to use forums more. So this vet believes the mentoring and mentoree culture that used to exist in the game has been somewhat replaced by the youtubers and the like where, the most popular videos/content tends to get more circulation. What’s most popular is not always true but I digress.

It is a lot easier to get carried through to gearing up in order to have access to higher tier content these days. I think that’s where the problem you’re describing comes from. That is delberately designed into the game to make that content ‘more accessible to more people’.

I’m with you tho, we should be more elitist…

  • Have the skills and if you don’t have the willingness to learn from the more experienced.

  • Likewise, however, if you don’t have the numbers of players or class/spec for the content, you need have the willingness to accept a less experienced player who is willing to learn.

Tricky one to bake into the games functionality and design tho. Thoughts?

I think Blizz should have Blizzard accredited guilds, personally.

Ill fix this one for you.

DDs:
Runs around like brainless idiots aggroing everyone. God have mercy on you if you have hunter with pets in the group. Then they blame tank for being bad or healer.

Tanks:
They dont even que because of the reason above.

Healers:
They dont even que because of the reasons above.

Btw i main a DD so its not some biased opinion as a tank/healer.

It’s because the game at large fosters

  • farming (badges, currency, rep)
  • speed runs (timers)

Of course it’s a competitive, even hostile environment.
Of course you’ll keep looking to replace your slowest member in the running / swimming olympics team.

However, while I can totally go out and run in the nearby park or riverside, swim in the pool, or cycle on the road, in WoW people are mishmashed together even during leveling dungeons, some rushing in full heirlooms, enchanted, consumables, while others can’t keep up. People expect top tier raiding gear just to run a daily heroic for the badges.

I always enjoyed power disparity, either because I’m carried, or gives me some challenge and the option to win the meters. That said I didn’t enjoy one funny dungeon where our damage dealers managed about 10% of what should be expected. I could, however, bail without consequence, unlike with the key system.

ye… no

i have seen countless 2.5-3k score people failing simplest mechanics , not focusing inerupting important stuff or doing abysmal dps.

there is no rule - since your mmr doesnt decrese on failed runs its all about signing to enough groups so eventually 1 group carry you.

i mean im myslef utterly garbage on some classes - like mage or rogue - and i still go above ksm score on those by the end of seasons -_-

but if someone tells me " dude you are trash " im like " lol yeah mate i know - dont like it ? leave group i will find next one anyway " - ofc im not writing it to not risk report  and ofc report them instantly

Sorry, 2.5 score also isn’t professional level.
It is so weird people expect perfect play.

get rid of rio score it means nothing plenty of people that have done high level content still get refused for things even with a high rio score

Score is just a personal thing to aim for. Just like getting your mount number up.
If you choose to, of course

Playing mechanics isn’t “perfect play”, it’s the normal expectation that people will not ignore mechanics.

I had a healer in temple of the jade serpent on the beta that didn’t heal me during the absorb by the 3rd boss in a +18 tyrannical. “You should be able to get rid of it on your own”. NO, THE ABSORB IS INSANELY STRONG, HEAL OR WE WIPE. I emptied my RP into death strikes and it was still up and I was dropping in hp and he only started to heal when I was close to death. I managed to get my hp up during purgatory and then when the next absorb hit I emptied my RP again and it was still on me and he still wasn’t healing and only started healing when I was close to dying. Needless to say, I died because he didn’t start healing earlier to get rid of the absorb.

Nobody is ignoring mechanics. They probably just didnt see them when there is a lot going on.

I can not comment on your jade serpent. I do not know that dungeon. Even when you write capitals. But talking about beta mechanics. he probably didnt know them either.

There isn’t a lot going on at that point. It’s basically just the tank that’s taking damage but if you don’t get rid of the absorb, the tank is dead.

+18.

He had done it on 16 already but that was without affixes. Not with tyrannical.
