Why layering is in the game

Layering is in the game to save blizzard money on opening, closing and merging servers. Every veteran WoW player knows it was a terrible decision from the beginning. Blizzard has made it even worse by being totally incompetent and allowing it to be exploited. Blizzard is an incompetent company without any intelligent people left that actually understand how vanilla WoW worked as a game.

Cool story bro.

Can we now stop with the layering topics?

Blizzard is an incompetent company? I know that people complain a lot of forums but come on now…

If you wouldn’t have layers , instead of having 75 people in westfall questing and killing all the mobs you’d end up with 400 people wiping the map on spawn.

It’s been said 1000’s of times before.

Google it and you’ll find out why Blizzard did it lol.

It’s no secret why Blizzard did it, they expected a large influx of players at launch the majority of which were going to quit.

As to why they expected that, that’s the million dollar question. There’s probably more than one answer, including the difficulty of gauging the number of players like me, who had zero interest in WoW for a couple expansions, but why instantly jumped on the chance to try Classic.

But I feel the real answer lies in human nature. Classic is a relatively small spin-off and I reckon the core of the dev team were transferred over from retail. I’m not implying the devs have intentionally sabotaged their work, but they found themselves in charge of a game built on a radically different philosophy to theirs.

It’s like having a vegan manage a steakhouse.

I refuse to believe that the devs were unaware of at least some of the ways layering would later be abused. It’s just that the abuses affected things like leveling or the game’s economy, which in retail have largely been made opt-out. What they call an economy in retail is paying for tokens and buying boosts from raiding guilds.

And second, I’d say it was also a dose of personal hubris.

To continue my restaurant analogy, the devs in charge of Classic are a chef who’s cooking food for people who think the previous chef’s food was better.

After the nochanges crowd won, layering was their way of leaving their mark on the game.

We think we didn’t want it, but we did, no?

Aw no. God forbid the poor multi billion dollar company charging ÂŁ10/$15 every month to play their game have to invest a little in their product.

To this day, nobody still knows why layering is a thing in classic.

Because streamers demanded it to level up and Blizzard does everything to satisfy streamers.

Why haven’t you said goodbye yet?

I can if you want. Goodbye, leavy my thread.

I had to compete with quite a few players in groups for murloc heads in South shore last night. Without layering I dread to think how many other players needed same quest.

5Ă— more people, 5Ă—respawn rate.

instead of respawnig 3 minutes after death, mobs respawn 36 seconds after death.

It would’ve took roughly the same time since a layer’s population right now is almost as big as a vanilla realm.

Deal with it, layering has zero benefits to the regular player (except those who actively abuses layer hopping of course).

Its been explained a million times and it makes perfect sense why Layering exists. Despite your frustrated rant.

That is like blaming the shop owner for beeing robbed. Doesn’t get much more rediculous than that. :man_shrugging:

You feel better now? Good.

At the most they are guilty of underestimating their own success and last time i checked modesty wasn’t a bad quality.

And just to reassure you a bit, i haven’t seen any effect of whats happened so far.

So wipe that foam off of your mouth and relax. :hugs:

It is also possible that the size of the #nochanges crowd caused them to assume that people would want a classic experience.

This could lead them to underestimate how many would abuse a system like layering to deliberately get a more retail like experience.

The problem with Layering are the players who deliberately abuse it.
If you just play the game, layering works great.
The zones are populated,
I see the same people multiple times.
The capital cities are not barren.
People don’t randomly spawn in around me.

People aren’t a fan of layering? I haven’t noticed anyone complaining…
