Why many guilds are dead?

3 reasons.

  1. End of an expansion.
  2. Terrible expansion.
  3. There are allot of guilds that are mostly small and those die fast.

Guilds are dead because the community is dead.

Excuse me???
Legion was the last good expansion. Borrowed powers and WQs were fun. Class fantasy was there, and the story did give Warcraft vibes.
Sadly Blizzard learned the wrong lessons from Legion and continued on until today.

No, it was awful. You were locked to one spec and one character because of the artifact weapon. It was basically impossible to keep two specs near each other unless you were no-lifing the game and you had to stick to one instead of playing whatever you want to as a result or you’d have 2 or more sub-par artifact weapons.

Forget playing alts, they had to completely start over with obtaining artifact knowledge.

What? Legion was alt-friendlier than the nonsense we have today. Speaking from personal experience, it was the only expansion that I played more than 10 alts

What?? Legion was much more alt-friendlier than the nonsense we have today. Speaking from a personal experience, I created and leveled many alts to max and had more than one spec to play in each without feeling irrelevant to the content.
Heck, just yesterday I wished we could get artifact weapons back because it gives me the flexibility to switch specs easier than collecting weapons on their own.

No, it wasn’t. It really wasn’t. Legion only became playable if you played more than one spec or character towards the end, at which point the expansion was already over pretty much. You just seem to have selective memory about just how oppressive the artifact knowledge system was at the start of the expansion towards alts, you had to completely start over, there was no catch up. Alts were downright unplayable as a result of that.

Go on and explain how.

True, that did happen, and people did complain, and Blizzard listened pretty quickly by the time of patch 7.1 if not earlier and artifact knowledge wasn’t a big issue ever since. I have played every single patch of Legion and I don’t remember that was an issue after 7.0

That’s a complete lie. They only introduced catch up for alts in 7.1.5 but to meaningfully use it you actually had to keep up the AK on your main character. I had pretty much stopped playing the game due to that AK stuff at launch and not being able to play more than 1 spec, meaning I got no meaningful usage for it on my alts. This was the only expansion where I played another game more than I played WoW as a result of the artifact weapons and them not fixing the AK stuff until the end. BFA was close to ending up the same way due to the heart of azeroth and the gating of azerite armor behind its levels.

Nothing like this existed in SL and that makes SL infinitely better than both Legion and BFA, which are the worst expansions of WoW.

as bad as BFA was it had atleast Warcraft themes and villains. the only wow like villain in this expansion was Sylvanas and she wasn’t even a proper villain. The chuckler was built up as this super big bad evil villain and in the end he turned into a completely inconsequential villain and meme.

I think people only recall the last patch of legion or something lol

anyone still remember artifact power limiting you to switch specs?
Better also level all classes in the beginning to afk farm knowledge if you ever decide to play an alt
also better hope you get the correct legendary or be 100% weaker than the one who got it

legion was the first downfall of WoW
I must say part of it was fun, the zones where great, the dungeons were good as well but man, the systems just ruined WoW and considering battle for azerite and systemlands build up on the crappy systems introduced in legion, well I would say legion was THE worst expac ever introduced to WoW while it itself wasn’t that bad to play of course

we could of course also say that once Ion put the hat on, WoW went to the dumpster and lost 80% of its player base since they still let him try ANOTHER time, guess maybe subs are still very healthy and he did a great job or something :man_shrugging:
who doesn’t like systemlands. Thank god it has the 6 month mount subs

yep because the most ppl only play m+ and for that easy activity you dont need a guild or any social structure

This time it feels even worse.

So many guilds broke because the last raid tier was overtuned and people for very very very tired of it.

Especially with mechanics if one player makes a mistake, it’s a wipe.

I don’t play atm, i just do some alt stuff, that’s it.

Maybe I’ll cancel my sub until DF

Edit: also the first X-Pac where i don’t bother with curve… Which is a new thing for me.
And i don’t take boosts.

What’s the point in playing right now?
No new content, just recycled stuff.
They raise the ilvl 25-40 and think everyone will come back.
No they won’t.

Because most social guilds aren’t social … just the same 5 people pushing on keys , stuck in a locked discord channel not willing to be social

The guild chats are dead and it’s just people posting memes in the meme channel and nsfw channels that’s about it.

What kept people playing is the human interaction.
"I’m still playing because 3 of my friends are " etc that’s gone. So what’s the point returning until new content is released

Shadowlands has been feeling like an end of expansion since the third week of its release. So no wonder that there are none left by now.

That expac wasn’t even MAIN friendly at the start.

People chasing hard content had to make extra characters because of how the legendaries worked. ie if you got a garbage one as your first one you knew you needed to roll a new char because the next one was weeks or months away.

And offspeccing was impossible at the start.

Sure, you rolled 10 alts when they fixed all that 6 months in. Doesn’t mean it was an “alt friendly” expansion.

Nice rewriting history.

Nothing new here. People tend to take breaks before new expac launches. Most have quit because of systems. But I do see plenty of people doing old content! Especially Mechagon stuff :sunglasses:

Social guilds are incredibly hard to find IMO. I haven’t been in a proper social guilds for years.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to sit on discord all day, I know some see that as the definition of social. However I have been in guilds where there have been lots of activities and people on doing stuff all the time and I’ve not had that for years.

My current guild is mostly only lively on a raid night, the rest of the time it’s a handful of players and a group of them that regularly do m plus together.

As I keep saying. Legion wasn’t that bad at all. It’s just the lessons Blizzard learned from it that were bad (They decided to take on the bad lessons over the good ones) so for the crappy systems we ended up having nowadays it’s Blizzard’s fault and not Legion.
In fact, during its life, it seemed that Blizzard was actually going in the right direction as patches went on but stuff happen.
Also, I agree that Ion isn’t really great as a game director. Two bad expansions to his name and he’s experimenting with a third one now…

There’s absolute zero chance social guilds as we knew them will make a comeback. Discord replaced that just like newer social media replaced MySpace. Most people also just make friends as they go and then have their own mini communities or cliques.
