Why not go all the way with self found hardcore?

Another dumb Skyrim comparison, how original.

Trading is just a small part of the social aspect of the game compared to playing in groups. You CAN make groups in SF and many SF players will want to group up with other SF players only.

I am actually surprised that so many players who clearly don’t even care about self-found mode are totally fine with this mode being on the current hardcore servers, even supporting this decision. If you’re not gonna play SF and continue playing on these servers with divided population by rules, it’s YOU who’s gonna suffer more. SF players will not add anything to your game. They won’t be able to add anything to auction house for you. They won’t be able to craft or enchant anything for you. They will spam chat with LFM SF only. Merging the two current hardcore servers into one and adding one SF only server would be better for everyone.

Seriously, why have two servers both with divided population by SF and non-SF rules instead of one server for each? That doesn’t make any sense.

I am one liknig all different HC playstyles on one HC server (or better like now two)
If SSF (with grouping) should have own server, then also IronMan, ‘Real’ SSF (No groups) and lot other playstyles … how many servers we want?

Better as now 2 official HC servers with buffs or tabards or small shards floating in air above player to denote the different playstyles. I would hate one overcrowded normal HC server, and several small ones. As I would be forced to SF/IronMan/SFF/PureSSF server - hate, hate, HATE crowded - to even play.

An individual “Private” Layer (maybe offline) would be nice where every Object exists only once and will not respawn - of course many quest have be changed, then, because of their low drop rate or the like. But i know, this wouldn’t happen, this is a massive change…

…but this would be my World of Warcraft

Retail is experimenting adding bots to dungeon grinds, they call it Warbands. However they forget the main motivation why we play MMORPGs in the first place. Even if we solo play some part of it we want to compare ourselves with other in game world, to show off our gear, to be able to link some hard achievement. The ultimate goal us to have sence of progress and completion, when we loose it we stop playing this game.

Having each player on separate layer may be so sociopath dream, but WoW lacks deep storyline that solo RPGs have to compensate for the lack of it. Just take WoD garrisons as the example. People were socially isolated in 2014-2016 before it became mainstream there and although been promoted to expedition general’s in storytelling and being praised by every NPC soon felt tired and quit the game.

On the contrary class halls of Legion were were alive, where you saw representative of your own class, compared yourself with then and were motivated to play to Cath up or be proud of yourself being stronger, even if you didn’t knew them in person. Same with SF. You may want to play content in your own pace, but you would also want to show off results in capital city and someone to notice your virtual effort status.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. A lot of people are saying like “Why do you care about others and how they play the game? You’re playing the challenge for yourself. If others are boosting themselves or buying gold, so what.” And this is such a good point you brought up, you want to compare your progress in the game with others. For me, that’s big part of the MMORPG, but it’s disappearing from the game thanks to bots, goldbuing, gdkps and even some streamers who let their viewers boost them in shameless ways. And with that the motivation to catch up is fading as well and people lose interest in the game.

Self-found is where this could shine again. SF mode is made for this, because you know for sure that you’re comparing yourself with someone who earned it all just like yourself, and the motivation to play the game will be stronger again. But if we won’t get the option to stay SF at 60, it will all be gone just like that. You want to compare your SF character with other SF character at the end of the journey? Guess what, he bought the gear at AH, someone else crafted it for him, he has thousands of gold in the bag send from main running gdkps, no longer self-found. Will there be another big Mak’gora tournament for self-found at 60? It’s gonna be the same damn thing. It would have to be at 59, which is dumb. Why would anyone even raid with SF characters if it’s gonna be the same damn thing as with non-SF chars? Forcing lvl 60 self-found characters to no longer be self-found would be a huge mistake. I pray for the option to permanently opt out of the mode at any time, no forcing at 60 please.

If you go that path then Classic loot system must be replaced with personal loot. Who knows, maybe bidding was made in discord with real money trading?

Then the raiding itself must go, because maybe you bought a slot to raid team carry you.

In the end we get into garrison like prison, where everyone is isolated because any social interaction enabling player to progress ends up sold via RMT services.

Personal loot does sound intriguing, though I’m fine with the current loot system for SF launch. Grouping for dungeons and rolling for loot, I’m for this social aspect of the game to stay in SF.

I get that goldsellers are very resourceful people, but connecting RMT with raid leading would be easily trackable and bannable. That can’t be profitable on lvl 60 self-found hardcore characters.

I don’t understand the point of this thread. There are already people doing ssf on their own initiative. It’s the rules that you follow while playing that matter.

For real? After reading it all?

Yeah, I also played SSF. This thread is not about SSF.

If you play by your own rules and don’t care about others’ in an MMORPG, sure.

We’re talking about official SF mode that’s coming in February if you haven’t heard, so it’s actually “It’s the rules that EVERYONE follows while playing that matter.” I don’t see official SF mode as solo individual challenge, but as a ruleset that unites those who are interested in SF and want to experience it together.

seems like you’re very alone with that mindset…

How could I? It’s more like a definition than mindset.

You’ve joined the thread talking about SSF which is THE solo individual challenge that has been here for over 2 years.

What we are getting in February is official SF mode. The main purpose of releasing this mode is to unite the players under the SF ruleset. If you don’t care about playing in community united by the same rules, there’s no point for you to wait for this release and you can go play alone by whatever rules you want.

With what precisely do you disagree with?

SF mode is good idea for many people.
We are waiting this)

SF is going to change a lot of things within the game, getting rid of bots because they have nowhere to sell their items… SF will also, force players to focus on professions instead of just buying goods at the AH. So until the reboot of Cata comes along, Self Found Mode is worth a try. I believe the only issue I’ll have in SF is that I’m not so sure if I want herbing first or leather working cause I gravitate toward underwater breathing. just hate missing out on all those leather scraps.

Edit:

I’m here to report that even though no items are on the AH list I was able to open the AH and click search… Plus I was able to open the mailbox and again, clicking send mail… but I did not attempt to send. I was under the impression that Self Found meant that the Mailbox would be blocked or even removed and the same with the AH.

As you wll get NPC mail – Gubber Blupm for one – mailbox can not b blocked.

I think those are buttons of your addons. Worst case scenario, that you loose your SF buff upon using these services.

The mailboxes will continue to exist on the servers, non self found players will continue to use them. But you won’t be able to send any mail. You can write the mail, add the items but when you click send you will get the error message.

The same with auction house - you can search it but when you click buy you will get the error message. Again non self found players will continue to use it so it cannot be removed completely.

And all restrictions are removed once you reach level 60.

I guess that enchanting is not much viable profession for self-found adventurer to help out with leveling then…
Unless they changed something and basic rods can be obtained from other sources than AH/trade with blacksmith.

Nope enchanting is impossible to to level. Casters usualy level it a bit to get the wands then switch to skinning for the money and to make bags if they go for tailoring. Herbalism +Alchemy is probably generaly the best choice, since most other professions require other professions for the good stuff

You also need other stuff for Alchemy than herbs. Proff were mad social on purpose.

true, but I think you can make all the good stuff with herbing alchemy and fishing. You still need to get some random world drop recipes tho
