I strongly believe that the game would be much better without any addons.
Just a couple examples why:
People would actually have to pay attention to what is happening during the fight, not what the addon tells them to do.
Everyone would be equal on the AH without any addons.
People would be exploring looking for stuff and not just go from one icon to another using handynotes or at least everyone would exchange info with others and create maps together which is many times better
So, can someone from Blizzard tell me why you donât even consider banning all addons?
Iâm playing wow for so long that i know this is never going to be TRUE.
People donât care about their performance in wow.
They just there to collect stuff and if they find content hard they quit.
FOr this one you are maybe rightâŚ
I personally donât use AH for anything but when i need currency for crafting something and i donât have any addon for itâŚ
But i really donât care about making money on AH because iâm working i have money and 20 euro is nothing for me so i mostly buy gold if i need something
The devs disagree and even integrate some of them to the game. Addons are unfortunately there to stay, people donât like having to use their brain to perform well. Itâs always funny to me when they make fun of players who donât rely on addons, but are completely useless when their bots donât work due to late updates
Theres about gazillion modifiers that people stack that have hardly any visual indication at all, without addons I would just press all my defensives random and get yeeted afterwards, or I would send all my cds into other guys walls and do zero dmg.
Because this isnât FFXIV with well designed mechanics, indicators and abilities that make it obviously clear what is going to happen.
The problem with the majority of WoW fights is that thereâs simply too much going on. I loose track of my cursor due the effects, they have a red boss, in a red room using red spells with red telegraphs. As a colorblind person, I donât see ANYTHING and need to rely on audio-queues to know something is up. And no, colorblind mode doesnât help.
Then please redesign the AH layout first so that searching and buying items is way more pleasantâŚ
And I can guarantee you that the majority of content/items/stuff will never be found. Even with some of the guides, figuring out things is a nightmare for certain quest-chains or achievements. The only way people even learn about things at the moment is because it gets datamined, and we know it exists in the game.
The backlash would be enormous. Maybe on par with the exodus that followed when they wanted to remove flying from WoD.
Iâm not against addons in general; but thereâs a few categories of them that I do believe are very harmful to the game. Like the automation type things, like raiding addons that basically just tell you what to do, like auction addons. That sort of thing.
OP seems to be oblivious that sites like Thotbot existed since Vanilla to guide players with whatever they perceived as âexplorationâ.
Nor do they care that many people who are handicapped RELY on addons just to play WoW.
Nevermind the fact the UI in WoW is beyond rubbish. The MANY additions to WoW were all thanks to addons⌠they serve their purpose where Blizzard lacked in.
You want a quick death to the playerbase and want to complain about longer queues? Ban addons!
The total lack of foresight by these anti-addon brigades is beyond staggering⌠and theyâre almost always posted by a low post count character so one can only surmise theyâre trolls for the most part bandwagoning the rage towards TSM.
Would be neat. But not going to happen.
Game is balanced around addons and players are very accustomed to it.
Would be massive amount of work for them to bring the game up to similar standards that people have now or risk losing a lot of players.
Get out of the basement man, not everyone is here to hunt or troll you.
I just donât use forum too much and i play on and off.
I was recently playing the game Gothic 2 Returning mod. Itâs an old school proper RPG. There is not a lot info online, no quest markers, etc and many, many secrets.
That made me thinking, what if wow was the same?
That would be simply amazing, but guys above are probably right. Too much stuff in the game
Addons are never going to be removed and it doesnât take much Google search to get an idea of how Blizzard feels about addons.
With that being said, Iâm a returning player and have been tanking quite a lot (run about 20-30 dungeons so far) without any addons. There are a few things that the default UI isnât great at, or is just missing completely, that Iâll be looking for add-ons to manage:
The default nameplates cannot be adjusted and are really difficult to see in darker dungeons (especially the names of mobs). As a tank, all I see is as bunch of bars stacked on top of each other and addons that allow you to adjust the size and appearance are going to be massively helpful and essentially help me to play the game better.
Visuals for important skills or procs cannot be adjusted. For example, if my âStrategistâ talent procs, I would really love a way to make this more obvious with something like a sound cue.
Bag organisation is limited to a search bar. Many bag addons will colour-code and segment different types of gear and this is massively helpful to people like me!
Assuming that addons are causing people to not pay attention to whatâs happening during fights sounds like a seeping generalisation that doesnât reflect my experience of pugging dungeons so far.
I think itâs fair to complain about things like HandyNotes but it also sounds like youâre complaining about the way that people are choosing the play the game, which I donât think is going to get you anywhere.
The simple truth is that banning all addons is impossible. Any system implemented would quickly be circumvented, and some potential solutions would be illegal in many regions. For example, games like FF14, which have tried to address this issue, now face even more invasive addons. This is because theyâve had to rely on alternative methods to add functionality, leading to a more extreme and intrusive addon culture than what exists in WoW.
The only effective way to ban all addons would be to implement a social security system where accounts are tied to someoneâs real identity, like in Korea. But no one wants that, as it turns the gameâs culture into a more competitive and toxic environment because everything is tied to your identity.
The best advice is to stop worrying about how others play the game and find a guild with like-minded people.
