Why Ragnaros survived 154 days in Vanilla

Just to explain for some guys who seem to don’t understand why Ragnaros survived 154 days in Vanilla and only 6 days in Classic.

  1. How do you know where to go for attunement to the core ? Game is new, no information.

  2. Imagine being in 2004 when there is zero information about how to summon Majordomo Executus + Ragnaros. Even if you clear Molten Core, most guilds was like “Ok we have done the raid, it’s finish”. How do you know there’s two more boss ? How do you know that a little elemental on a island in Azshara give some quests for a “Hydraxian reputation” ? How do you know this little elemental give you a quintessence when you have completed all quest + honored reputation ? How do you know this quintessence should be used in seven boss on Molten Core ? How do you know the effect of clearing the seven runes ? The answer is simple : you don’t know, beause it’s new and there is zero information.

  3. Talent tree for most classes was super bad on release. Blizzard did a massive rework later in Vanilla.

  4. Items stats was lower and healing / spell power was a rare statistics. A Priest 1.12 in MC gear have now roughly 170 more healing power than first Vanilla patch.

  5. Boss was nerfed on purpose : https://drive.google.com/file/d/10VX4klI8ZbqQKIce7r7UZ6ItIpM5lft0/view?ths=true

  6. Player was lower skilled and didn’t know all consumables that was available, boss was new so you don’t know strategy and you can struggle and wipe for basic thing. Today, we have boss mod and WekAura that handle most mechanic for us (ex : Bomb of Geddon, debuff on transition in Azshara HC/Mythic).

I can guarantee that if you do the same for all extension that Blizzard made, all boss will be killed in less than a week after the leveling. Even a Kil’Jaeden Mythic, this boss was hard, really hard, but when strategy and position is well-know, when there’s multiple guide & video on internet of how to handle mechanic, when you can train the game mechanic on private server ot self-hosted server, when you are coming to the last patch that handle all the nerf for you to make your life easier, when you have the correct bossmod tuned perfectly with the WeakAura from the best raiders, i can guarantee you will destroy the boss. Sure, you can add artificial difficulty (ex : get your BiS legendary in Legion when it’s RNG and you have a decay when you get a legendary that prevent you to get the next legendary just after) but it doesn’t change the fact that boss strategy are not hard when we know all about them.

TLDR : Content is “hard” when content is new.

I dont think the attunement was there in the beginning, you’d have to enter through BRD. Not that I was at 60 by this time…

Well yeah

Also dont forget 16 debuff slots

I don’t think anyone in their mind thought that Rag gonna take even months to clear, specially pservers folk

The problem is not world firsts, the problem is how exactly much easier it will be for casual guilds to clear, and we see pug groups doing it in greens sooooo probably not that hard, which is a shame

We know this already - this is like making a post saying 1+1 = 2

2+2 is 4 quick maffs.

3+3 is 6 is bigger man…

  1. There was no layering to abuse in vanilla. Nor boosting XP by raiding dungeons.

I have called it there

I remember that he got nerfed until he got killed in vanilla. He was very strong. There where not many guilds on my server that did it until AQ40 release. Players be like “we are so much better now - like 15 times better for every year”. Fact = rag gets killed like 15 years ago everybody is doing exactly the same s*** but it’s so much easier now. There is noooo way you could’ve killed him in vanilla with randoms in green lol. Everybody needed fire res the MT had to have lots of it. Basically the full fire res set.

The patch classic is played on is the patch b4 TBC and is meant to allow everyone to progress vanilla content. It’s a little sad because there will be no pve Skillgap

While in 1.12 it’s easy to always find quests and quest hubs so that you never feel like you need to grind, quests where more sparse in the original launch. This combined with less knowledge about leveling routes made leveling much slower as well.

Honestly I’m very interested to learn how players found out all those things about summoning bosses. But for some reason I think that they actually new most of those things. Datamininig already was a thing, so probably they knew everything and it did not take much time to figure everything out.

Figuring those things out is not rocket science. We weren’t dumb back then, we just lacked mechanical skill and game-sense to kill the bosses.

Knowledge alone shouldn’t justify downing Rag with greens. Game is nerfed to hell.
