Hi Blizzard and fellow adventurers of Azeroth (and beyond!),
I’ve been absolutely loving the Hardcore experience in World of Warcraft Classic. The permadeath mechanic has breathed new life into the game, creating a thrilling, high-stakes environment that rewards careful planning, skill, and a deep understanding of the world. It’s been a blast reliving the vanilla experience with this added challenge, and it’s got me thinking: What about Hardcore mode for The Burning Crusade?
Why TBC Hardcore Would Be Amazing:
- A New Layer of Challenge:
TBC introduced iconic dungeons, raids, and zones like Karazhan, Black Temple, and the Hellfire Peninsula. Imagine tackling these with the added tension of permadeath! The expansion’s unique mechanics and encounters would make for an unforgettable Hardcore experience.
- Diverse Class Dynamics:
TBC brought significant class changes and improvements, making more specs viable and fun to play. A Hardcore mode would allow players to explore these changes in a high-risk, high-reward environment.
- Outland as a Hardcore Playground:
The alien landscapes of Outland are perfect for a Hardcore setting. From the perilous Fel Reavers of Hellfire Peninsula to the claustrophobic corridors of Shadow Labyrinth, TBC offers a fresh and exciting world to conquer—or perish in.
- Community Engagement:
The Hardcore community has proven how passionate and dedicated players are to this style of gameplay. Adding a TBC Hardcore mode would not only satisfy existing fans but also attract new players eager to test their skills in a different era of WoW.
How It Could Work:
- Optional Hardcore Servers: Just like in Classic, players could choose to roll characters on dedicated TBC Hardcore servers.
- Solo Self-Found (SSF) Options: Allow players to opt into SSF rules for an even greater challenge.
- Achievements and Rewards: Introduce unique achievements, titles, or cosmetic rewards for milestones like hitting level 70, clearing dungeons, or defeating raid bosses in Hardcore mode.
A Call to Blizzard:
Blizzard, you’ve shown incredible support for the WoW community by embracing the Hardcore movement in Classic. TBC Hardcore feels like the natural next step—a way to keep the excitement alive while exploring one of WoW’s most beloved expansions. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this idea and whether it’s something you’d consider for the future.
To my fellow players: What do you think? Would you dive into Outland with permadeath on the line? What moments from TBC would you be most excited (or terrified) to experience in Hardcore mode? Let’s discuss and show Blizzard how much we’d love to see this happen!
Thanks for reading, and may your blades never dull!

I don´t know man. The vanilla time commitment is huge, but tbc easily surpasses it.
Just imagine you´d spent all the time doing attunements and farming gear just to get killed by someone not moving correctly during the shade of aran encounter or a chain lightning during the maiden or, or or^^
TBC has so much deadly stuff in the dungeons/raids, much more so than vanilla.
That being said. I would certainly play it minus the achievements. Only nubs care for that.
You’re right—TBC’s deadly mechanics and time commitment make it brutal. But that’s the thrill of Hardcore! Those high-stakes moments that make the journey unforgettable. Hardcore isn’t for everyone, but for those who love a challenge, TBC’s complexity could make it the ultimate test.

why would they make content for such a low % of people. over 95% of attempts don’t even make it to 60.

True, not everyone makes it to 60 in Hardcore, but that’s part of the charm—it’s about the journey, not just the destination. TBC actually makes 1-60 leveling smoother and faster with better class abilities, improved quest flow, and more viable specs. Plus, the added challenge of TBC’s deadly dungeons and raids would make the journey even more thrilling. Look at vanilla Hardcore—it’s not about how many people “win,” but about the stories, close calls, and unforgettable moments along the way. TBC Hardcore could take that to the next level!

Teron Gorefiend would like to have a word.

Blizzard could probably change that mechanic somehow, so that it will only put you out of commission for the remainder of the fight. However, i would not trust blizzard to properly do that^^

I’ll level to 70 just to be a clicker in your mag raid…
Don’t worry about gorefiend, you won’t make it passed gruul or mag (or maybe flame wreath)

It does not matter to Blizz if we make it to 60 or 70 or not - as long as we keep playing and paying. And a way to ensure this would be exactly to give us HC server for TBC as well - preferably one separate, HC TBC server staying in TBC so that we could figth our way to 70 and beyond on our own good time.
As always mate it seems that nodody want the same thing !
I personally am against the very concept of expansion which make all previous content obsolete.
Blizzard stated that HC was about the classic leveling experience and I hope it will stay that way.
My wish is that they reinvent the vanilla version of the game for a more condensed and replayable experience, like a rogue like, as I usually lose interest for the game way before high level content (for which I’ve no interest neither) .
No need to mention the actual frankenstein version of the game, also called retail.
We have HC Classic Era. What’s wrong in wanting a HC TBC Era as well?
I support you, but an achievement system wouldn’t hurt either, especially for vanilla classic HC.
The question is, will we create a new server for BC or will the current hardcore servers be transferred to BC?
There’s nothing wrong mate but as I said I could not stress enough the impasse that represent the release of expansions cutting the playerbase up and making previous content irrelevant.
I recently tried SoD and instantly stoped as I understand with the rune vendor that I was already “catching up” and that what I will play for the next hours was to be rush in order to reach the real content.
If I’d really try to reconcile both opinion, I’d propably use Outland as a 50-60 content to give players the choice of their leveling zone and not extend an already too long leveling experience.
I hear the gameplay was a bit improve in TBC, which could be welcome, but I don’t remember myself since the last time I play it, it was in 2008.
Moreover the two new races would bring some replayability for the never-ending alt makers like me.
But still, I feel that the very concept of expansion create regions far too autonomous from the base game.
A server or two for HC TBC won’t make Classic HC Era contents irrelevant for those wanting only the 1-60 experience.
I’ll say as always that this is a false alternative. You’re basically teling those that would like TBC HC to either quit or play your fave version (HC Era)
Levelling 1-60 in Classic and levelling 1-70 in TBC takes up roughly the same amount of /played time, if anything 1-70 in TBC is a bit faster.
So much this - I’d love to be able to roll a Draenei or five on an official HC TBC server - given that it stayed forever or as a max progressed to Wrath.
I still say that the optimal way of retaining players is giving them as many different versions as possible to choose from. Not many play one version only, so more versions would make most players play more time and stay longer.
HC TBC yes; but we dont need the life at 70 (raid level) to be HC too. Make it something semi-hc, like 2 days suspension per death. This will greatly stagger raid-guilds and thus have great impact.
Its like, when uve managed the journey from 1 (or 60) to 70 the carrot should be that ure char isnt perma-dead when dying after u hit lvl 70.
No way. This is not HC. If you want to play like that, level from 1-70 on a HC server, then transfer to a normal server where you impose your own rules. No need ruining the HC mode for the rest of us.
