Why were things like Archeology and Glyphs abandoned

I Must ask,

Lately, given im abit of a Altaholic, i’ve decided to really try to stick to one char, we shall see if it works haha, feel like my swapping snd chopping behaviour has kept me back every season due to continously changing my mind on what i wanna play.

So i decided imma do more then just sit in instances, imma slowly unlock achievements to different sections of the game snd work on some more casual content instead of endlessly grinding instanced base content.

Invest in some time sunk fallacy.

So i started by Going down proffessions, never something i rly did. I think i did it for the sake of stats back when they added stats but nothing big nothing major as i’ve oftenly ignored most of game in my end game grinding

so im now starting with everything. so i went With proffessions first.

I have to wonder why glyphs and archeology was abandoned, they both seemed pretty cool in nature of what they are and seemed like they coulda been something, Any chance maybe we’d look at doing something with these systems?

I remember the glyph system fondly and even when transitioning to more aesthetical things why did they stop? With the reworks new classes and more i feel like they could have really added some cool stuff for inscriptionists to do.

Archeology, with the bone raptor mount and more. Not to mention the possibility to grt into WoWs history. Why did they cut this after legion? They could have used the proffessions rework to rly breathe life into it.

And why nothing new regarding secondary proffessions.

fixed it for you =)

back to the topic…blizz is abandoning systems left and right, this expasion already the onyx ring from 10.0.7 which was interesting and could be build in the next patches, but they nerfed it to oblivion and now its worthless.

This game needs both though.

M+ and raiding are very important. But if you play this game solely for the coin flipping of meta. Altaholism is gonna burn many out.

I understand and am in agreement that verticle progression is important, and that gearing should come from primarily m+ / raid content.

However, this games lost alot of side goals.

  • alts. Now levelling has become extremely fast, and open world has lost alot of difficulty. Iron man and levelling has lost alot of its orginal investment.

  • tokens have ruined gold farming as a end game.

The issue with this nothing was introduced to replace this.

  • proffessions still gate keep recipies with raid drops. Proffessions should be primsrily all about the open world, this needs to go and restrictions need loosening.

  • more secondary proffessions and allow us to have more main proffessions on our main.

DF has been amazing, but please invest in some of these things. I aint asking for gear progression open world, just simply there needs to be more to do outside of the instanced based content.

That ring was only even supposed to last untill 10.1.

Maybe so, but maybe itd of left players with a less bitter taste if 10.1 came out with something more then another rare farm. Zaralek really missed the mark

No idea about glyphs but a blue post a while back said they stopped working on Archaeology becuase it didn’t go in the direction they wanted or something to that effect.

Personally i enjoyed Archaeology, it was something to do in the open world when you just wanted to chill.

You do not speak for all players, I for one am still having a blast in there.

Inscription on release was pretty much Cataclysm’s borrowed power system, where someone had to craft 6 passives for you.

Now it’s pretty much just alchemy with paper.

As for Archeology, it’s because they couldn’t be bothered to make the archeology zones and add rewards.

it was added in wotlk tho

My bad. Point still stands. It was pretty much just a borrowed power system. That got tweaked through Wotlk to Mop and then abandoned.

Im not saying DF is bad. I still enjoy WoW immensely but there are improvements for sure.

because no one at blizzlool thought of adding premium wow store glyphs and archaeology miniquests…yet

a true goldmine…

And while i accept that, it became something which gave us aesthetical options beyond transmog around our abilities affects and even the weapons warlock pets use.

Why was that never doubled down on.

Glyphs became a kind of best in slot scenario and they didn’t want that so changed them.

Archeology wasn’t something they were happy with either so it vanished in SL and has yet to get a rework if it is to return.

Ion also touched upon the subject of Archaeology. Archaeology is something that needs some work. We’re not super happy with how that played out. It’s not something that’s going to be part of our initial efforts in Dragonflight.

they said from the start this was meant as catch up for thi patch and not for the whole expansion. i thought people hated borrowed power with a grind attached

I just wish they kept adding more aesthetic customization through it. :frowning:

Think it coulda been pretty cool

Yes I agree. So many things they could let us do via glyphs!

I personally love archaeology cus it lets me level to cap each expansion without doing a single quest or going to the latest expansion. By the way its ‘aeo’ last time I looked in game.

Glyphs are easily one of the features with the most wasted potential in the game. I genuinely hope they’re given some overdue love in the future.
