Why you should be playing Alts in TWW, especially solo/casual players

When you think of an MMORPG, you think of investing tons of time into developing a single character, gearing it, getting it to it’s highest capability. At least in WoW though, things have changed quite a lot, and while you can still do that, if you’re only playing one class I think you’re really missing out on what WoW does best in 2024, and that’s class design.

Lots of classes are strong, fun to play and are enjoyable for different kinds of content. Classes/specs provide an entirely different, unique gaming experience and there’s a ton of fun you’re missing out on and to be had if you don’t take it so seriously and you don’t treat it like a traditional MMO, but instead something to hop onto, work on that character slowly, having fun doing what you want to, instead of stressing about trying to accomplish this or that task and forcing yourself to do thing you don’t even want to do.

I’ve decided to level up all classes, throw out the idea of a “main”, and instead spread my time based on the content I feel like playing at that time, instead of trying to choose a one size fits all class/spec.

So far, that’s been a great decision, and here’s why;

Do I feel like doing Delves?

My MM hunter is excellent for that content. I can sit back, take in the experience and enjoy going through it without being real sweaty because hunter is just a good class to do that. I could never main it or spend all my time on it, but the rotation is so simple it’s almost meditative, my pet aggros most of the damage, and I can pump out an absurd amount of damage in an a moment. I can also stay out of range, avoid AOE by being able to move and be far away enough it doesn’t even do nothing to me. Unlike If was on my rogue/war, in and out, weaving, CC control, it would be 3x the work for the same exact result and it wouldn’t be fun, but stressful and sweaty.

Do I feel like questing/WQ’s/world content with PvP mode on?

Playing my Rogue feels like playing with Warmode off. I can escape anyone, kill anyone at will. I can go afk, go pee, make a sandwich, do cartwheels around my house while anywhere in the game just sitting in stealth. If there’s anything I need to do in the world, I do it on my rogue. I can kill things fast and I can avoid dying with vanish or any situation nearly, it’s completely relaxing and fun.

Do I feel like doing Arena/skirmish?

You practically need a degree and 5 addons just to PvP and actually see the things that you need to, but I make it easy on myself and just hop on Fury warrior. I can tunnel a target, throw a CC on a healer now and again, I’m almost never the main target and I can just chomp on people. I don’t need to kite and worry about 50 other things, I can just faceroll the keyboard and although it takes some knowledge I don’t have to worry about being tunneled every game, every single game like on an Aff warlock.

Do I feel like doing RBG’s/Epic BG’s/weekly BG?

Well, this is a good time to hop on Aff lock because no other class can melt multiple people at the same time or even just burst down one target in PvP like a lock. I can also port enemies and watch 10 players try to get out of a little shack I ported them into, just to troll them and then to see them all annihilated by my team. It’s sick, disgusting class, which is perfect for that content.

I could go on and on and yes, while this may take some work, a lot of things in WoW are designed to be easy/non-task heavy in the beginning and then become much more of a grind as you progress. So, while I won’t be competing in any AWC Arena championships or being in a #1 guild doing raids/mythic dungeons, I don’t really have the passion or interest in doing that.

In my opinion, unless you’re trying to be the best of the best, or you just love what you’re doing and experiencing right now, invest in some alts. You might not regret it and have way more fun while doing it.

Why would I play alts? It would be cause I cant be all of the classes I want to play on single character, so I play 8 characters of different classes I want to play

A jack of all trades is a master of none.

That said, I don’t really play alts and I suck as a Priest…

I simply don’t have the time to play or level alts.
I mentioned this in other threads, but I can play a few hours tops every day, and those all go to my main warrior.

I really don’t see how I can fit in leveling another alt, doing things with them and not lose progress on my warrior because content keeps moving ahead.

I have many alts and do the PvP weeklies only and I buy crystals for 2500 Honor and Im a millionaire now!

I’m a fan of being a master of one.

The thought of leveling up several characters and then re-doing all the gearing makes me sick…

So no, 1 is enough.

Now if blizzard would stop living in the past and actually let you buy Valorstones, Crests and other forms of progression from the blizz store that many other games allow, I might consider more characters

You could limit the “content” you care about - for me it’s tier mogs / mogs in general; gear & rating doesn’t matter anymore, since it gets resett every season and there will be catch up gear at the end of the patch or at least expansion, so why go through the hassle of raiding/dungeons above the lowest difficulty? Based on the tier looks, I switch up the classes I play each season and always bring at least one of each to max level, though there are some I barely ever care about (like Druid - tier set would have to be stellar to make me play that one above LFR difficulty).

This season the mythic hunter set looks kina nice (all tints actually, hence hunter is currently my main), but I’ll wait for BM buffs before thinking about aiming higher than the hc tint.

Good for you!
I dont bother with alts. I just want 1 main to progress score/get better gear and do raid content.
Unless they nerf my clsss to the ground and im forced to change its fine☺️

Tw week gives you the possibility to level very fast.

I am looking less at levelling alts in this expansion over previous versions. I use alts to earn gold, and this expansion is nerfed where gold is concerned.

How far down the P2W road do you want to go. I am fine with using badges earned on alts, but to allow gold and real money to upgrade your gear to the max. No thank you.

Not anymore, the recent changes makes TWing only viable at lower levels. Once you start to hit 60+, you find your gear is not up to the task because you do not get enough drops. Something that needs addressing.

I just don’t want to go through the grind up to 620 & proper M+ rating on every character.

I level my alts with herb/ore gathering and then they can craft gear and other stuff for my main.

tell that to top players
It is a one trade - WoW pve
This is why you are not good at your priest though you play only one class, and top players are good at anything they play

Pity I don’t really care about being a “top player” then ain’t it?

I’ve been playing this character since the release day of WoW in Europe. I’ve tried other classes, but I haven’t bothered to level them up (except during the Dragonflight last event, where leveling was pretty fast). Furthermore, I also leveled a rogue to 80, but I haven’t played him in weeks.
Maybe I’ll try Paladin.

It’s good enough to get the jump from 70 to 80 when you leveled with Heirlooms, and now sit on level 70 with barely over 100k HP, which is absolutely not viable to enter TWW content with.
Especially when you play specs with very low damage outputs.
