When you think of an MMORPG, you think of investing tons of time into developing a single character, gearing it, getting it to it’s highest capability. At least in WoW though, things have changed quite a lot, and while you can still do that, if you’re only playing one class I think you’re really missing out on what WoW does best in 2024, and that’s class design.
Lots of classes are strong, fun to play and are enjoyable for different kinds of content. Classes/specs provide an entirely different, unique gaming experience and there’s a ton of fun you’re missing out on and to be had if you don’t take it so seriously and you don’t treat it like a traditional MMO, but instead something to hop onto, work on that character slowly, having fun doing what you want to, instead of stressing about trying to accomplish this or that task and forcing yourself to do thing you don’t even want to do.
I’ve decided to level up all classes, throw out the idea of a “main”, and instead spread my time based on the content I feel like playing at that time, instead of trying to choose a one size fits all class/spec.
So far, that’s been a great decision, and here’s why;
Do I feel like doing Delves?
My MM hunter is excellent for that content. I can sit back, take in the experience and enjoy going through it without being real sweaty because hunter is just a good class to do that. I could never main it or spend all my time on it, but the rotation is so simple it’s almost meditative, my pet aggros most of the damage, and I can pump out an absurd amount of damage in an a moment. I can also stay out of range, avoid AOE by being able to move and be far away enough it doesn’t even do nothing to me. Unlike If was on my rogue/war, in and out, weaving, CC control, it would be 3x the work for the same exact result and it wouldn’t be fun, but stressful and sweaty.
Do I feel like questing/WQ’s/world content with PvP mode on?
Playing my Rogue feels like playing with Warmode off. I can escape anyone, kill anyone at will. I can go afk, go pee, make a sandwich, do cartwheels around my house while anywhere in the game just sitting in stealth. If there’s anything I need to do in the world, I do it on my rogue. I can kill things fast and I can avoid dying with vanish or any situation nearly, it’s completely relaxing and fun.
Do I feel like doing Arena/skirmish?
You practically need a degree and 5 addons just to PvP and actually see the things that you need to, but I make it easy on myself and just hop on Fury warrior. I can tunnel a target, throw a CC on a healer now and again, I’m almost never the main target and I can just chomp on people. I don’t need to kite and worry about 50 other things, I can just faceroll the keyboard and although it takes some knowledge I don’t have to worry about being tunneled every game, every single game like on an Aff warlock.
Do I feel like doing RBG’s/Epic BG’s/weekly BG?
Well, this is a good time to hop on Aff lock because no other class can melt multiple people at the same time or even just burst down one target in PvP like a lock. I can also port enemies and watch 10 players try to get out of a little shack I ported them into, just to troll them and then to see them all annihilated by my team. It’s sick, disgusting class, which is perfect for that content.
I could go on and on and yes, while this may take some work, a lot of things in WoW are designed to be easy/non-task heavy in the beginning and then become much more of a grind as you progress. So, while I won’t be competing in any AWC Arena championships or being in a #1 guild doing raids/mythic dungeons, I don’t really have the passion or interest in doing that.
In my opinion, unless you’re trying to be the best of the best, or you just love what you’re doing and experiencing right now, invest in some alts. You might not regret it and have way more fun while doing it.
