Will you be playing WoW in 2044?

I will not make that kind of commitment. Many things can change in life.

Assuming I am physically able, probably.

Itā€™s difficult to say what will happen in 20 years, but I probably wonā€™t be.

I simply donā€™t think World of Warcraft can sustain itself up to that point, I mean the game is already tearing itself apart in multiple ways trying to contain the sheer enormity of its content.

You do you but I would always feel guilty spending time on a video game when I could be with my child (or sleeping when the monster falls asleep, hoping i can get 3 hours of sleep before being awaken to his cries)
Besides Iā€™m a maths major student and I barely play so interesting science is to me so if I get a good master degree and then a PhD, that adds up as well.
What I mean is that I could technically find the time yes, one can always. Do I want to though? Not necessarily. Iā€™m only human after all and I want to achieve something IRL in science. When Iā€™m done with that, and my kids have grown, Iā€™ll be playing 24/7 but Iā€™ll probably be 70 by then :eyes:
Who knows what destiny has in store for us though

Of course I will! I am aiming to get to world first of oldest player in wow! I am sure that is a world first I could manage

If we have Geordi La Forge cyber-eyes by then it is quite possible.

I might have my Blazing Drake by then (probably not).

In 2044, the land of desktop computing will have changed significantly.

Consider the difference between an IBM PC in 1984 and your PC today in 2024, then also consider how much the regular user is moving away from open computing and into premade boxes that solve their problems (like phones and tablets). If WoW exists in 2044, it certainly wonā€™t be using a keyboard and mouse.

Well it all comes down to a lot of different circumstances, most of that time my kid was very small and just adjusting to sleeping at my place away from the mother, meaning 1-2 nights at a time - Now that we are adjusting towards a 50/50-schedule, things are subject to change.

However im not a student anymore, wich frees up a lot of time, so it will be work, kid, gym, mostly.

gametime in my experience doesnt have to come at the cost of time spent with your kid, ofc. every individual, family, situation are all different scenarios.

But do you know anyone who has real life responsabilities like children, work, school, who do not have some kind of hobby? being video games, gym, or even binging tv-series?

for me at least it came down to prioritizing, my head got grilled after 1. math sessions at university - 2. math sessions after that with my father (who is a retired math teacher) - it would be ideal to go to sleep at 21 and get 10 hours of sleep but then again im a b-person who cant do that, some kind of recreation was needed, and some evenings that would be world of warcraft, and other evenings other stuff

Btw look at a good masters degree and eventually a PhD as time invested in your kid (or potential kid) - You might see her or him less during periods of something like that, but it sure will benefit a child in the long picture in so many different ways.

If someone told me 20 years ago Iā€™d still be playing I wouldnt have believed itā€¦ Now yeah probably unless the servers get shut off.

I love how you left yourself a backdoor

If both WoW and I are still going, then yes. But as a Gen X gamer, Iā€™ll be happy if Iā€™m still above ground.

Always. :kissing_heart:

But itā€™s honest though.

Given a little bit of reflection thereā€™s two outcomes.

Either you play this game until the day you die and your family stands around you on your deathbed and listen as you utter your last words: ā€œZug zug.ā€ :headstone:

Orā€¦

You quit. And if youā€™re going to quit, you may as well do it at a time of your own choosing. I mean, no one really wants to be the person coming to the forums saying: ā€œIā€™ve been bored of WoW for the past three year, so Iā€™ve finally unsubbed. Maybe Iā€™ll be back, maybe notā€¦ā€ or: ā€œBlizzard are pricks for nerfing my class, so Iā€™m never going to play any of their games again!ā€

Ideally, if youā€™re going to quit the game at some point, you may as well quit on a positive note and a sense of parting with the game on good terms. After all, if youā€™ve spent so long on it, it would be unfortunate to sour the memory because of a bad ending.

So for me ā€“ because I donā€™t want to have Warcraft in my head until the day I die ā€“ itā€™s become a question of when I quit and not if I quit.

I remember a lot of players in my circle quit by the end of Wrath of the Lich King because their interest in playing the game was to finish up the Warcraft III plotlines. So when they killed Arthas they were done. The rest of us moved on to Cataclysm.
Now, for me, I would like to quit at a similar moment in the game. As people will say, then the end of Wrath of the Lich King is also the end of the classic era of WoW. So thereā€™s kind of a clean cut there that made for a good moment to quit, I think.
My hope is that the end of the World Soul Saga is a similar moment where the game ends its current cycle of things and starts a new one. And then you either hop onboard the train and go on that new adventure, or you donā€™t.

And for me itā€™s The Titans. Thatā€™s been the plotline Iā€™ve wanted a conclusion to ever since I saw those discs of Norgannon in Uldaman some 20 years ago. Thatā€™s the over-arcing narrative that I want to see the ending of. And once I get that, then like those who were satisfied with quitting after they had killed Arthas, I think I can also be satisfied to quit then.

If things go according to plan.

Maybe Metzen decides to drag it out or pull a bigger baddie or something like that, at which point Iā€™ll probably also quit ā€“ but in anger.
Or Blizzard will present a new adventure that really is above and beyond the current state of affairs. I am certainly not beyond persuasion, soā€¦
And I always have been very curious about Eluneā€¦

But if all goes according to plan, it ends with the World Soul Saga. :crossed_fingers:

Iā€™ll probably be here as well, since World of warcraft is the only game I still enjoy playing these days. Itā€™s like a lifelong partner atm.
It lasted more than some marriages.

Cheers

I donā€™t think so.
Iā€™m already playing less and less every year.
Iā€™m at the stage where i only do few weeks during new season to clear everything and then only log in for a weekly and even that i donā€™t do sometimes.
I donā€™t think i can play this game till 2044 cause i will be 52 years old i hope i will do something more interesting

There is no game like wow out there so yeah most likely

in 2044 I think I will be at that age, where I will discover wow and start playing it ā€œfor the first timeā€ :joy:

Just unsubbed. I might play MOP classic then Iā€™m done. There is nothing left in this game and retail is a woke joke.

I tried retail again a few days ago and the character Suzanne in Stormwind is now black. She was always white up until they did what Hollyweird and Disney are doing to famous characters and change their race. For me that is a sign of the times when itā€™s ok to be anti-white like blizz are now. Downvote me all you want, but I know I will not be around for 2044, especially with the state of the game, itā€™s story and the PC woke culture thatā€™s infested this game like cancer.

Before GTA6 for sure.

Iā€™ll probably be homeless or dead by then so chances are, nope.
