World of Warcraft is not responding

After the patch installation i get this problem. Ive had done scan and fix, updated my graphic driver. Deleted wtf, interface and cache folder. Still same error. I can log on to wotlk classic tho but not only on retail.

I have the same problem, i have tried scan and fix, reinstalling, updating drivers and resetting game settings nothing seems to work or give me an idea to what is wrong.

If you have AMD cards currently the recent wow update broke the dx12 comp with AMD cards, this IS on blizzard side of things and not AMD the tempoary fix is to do the following that was written on US forums/Reddit.

Open the launcher > WoW > Options > Game Settings > tick Additional Command Line Arguments > add in -d3d11 > Done

I had the same issue. same first troubleshooting steps as above . Then i tried starting the game, then leaving it alone for 5 minutes … that caused it to start.

AMD RX6950 XT 23.11.1 drivers
Intel i7 12th gen i7 12700k CPU
1tb gen4 nvme ssd
win 11 pro
32GB ram.

edit: this is indeed with DX12… after i booted into the game i switched to DX11 and it booted instantly

I have the same problem

EDIT: I also have an AMD card. Starting with DirectX 11 fixed the problem.

Did you guys also have driver crashes in the time stuff dungeon?

This actually fixed it. Purely Genius

Thank you! What a mess.

I should add this CAN work too but not seen many comments of just letting the client sit and hope it’ll run, it might be hit or miss on that front.

Yes, that worked for me too, thanks for the tip! Didn’t even have to wait 5 minutes, it was more like 2, maybe. Hope they fix soon though, having to wait even 2 mins to play will get tedious fast! (hashtag firstworldproblems…)

(No, I don’t much care to drop back down to DX11 tbh… We’ll see how long this takes, maybe I will…)

Same problem…

Forcing dx11 fixed the issue. If you don’t know how to force this is how.

  1. open battlenet and go to settings in the top right corner
  2. go to game settings
  3. select wow and find (additional command line arguments) > click that box and add -d3d11

He-he.
As I remember, some time ago WoW had microfreezes under dx11 and the recomendation was - switch to dx12. I suppose that soon we will need dx9 support…

Again? When 10.1 launched there were also issues with AMD cards right? (-d3d11 fixed it btw!)

How did this not get seen during testing? A note response for ETA to patch this would be greatly appreciated.

Happening to me too on amd. I managed to get in to the game after waiting 3-5mins after clicking play.

Game has’t run well at all since before dragonflight and now it no longer runs good job Blizzard, ̶a̶p̶p̶e̶a̶r̶n̶t̶l̶y̶ ̶g̶a̶m̶e̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶o̶n̶l̶y̶ ̶o̶p̶t̶i̶m̶i̶z̶e̶d̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶N̶V̶I̶D̶I̶A̶ ̶u̶s̶e̶r̶s̶ only optimized for directx11.

Double confirm i just let it run then alt tab out then click the icon on task bar and it worked instantly.

edit: the issue went away permanently now even upon reboot as if its trying to do some shader compiling without telling it does it, cos after it starts up fine after couple of minutes it will do so every time i think

I have an RTX 3080 and it is also not working on dx12.
On the other hand, it works fine on my ryzen 7940HS

Same issue with AMD card and DX12, wonder if any GM responds on ETA for solving it
