[WOTLK] Massive FPS drops since prepatch

Hi,
ever since the WOTLK Prepatch i have massive fps drops in raids, that included Sunwell too at that time. Now it still exists in Naxxramas. FPS go from 144 to like 40 or even worse.
Unfortunately nothing ive read here or googled, seem to help. That includes :

-Playing without AddOns / Reinstalling them all
-Deleting WoW completely / Reinstalling
-Updating my Drivers / Updating my BIOS / Updating Windows
-Checking my GPU/CPU Temps while in raid
-Deleting WoW- and Battle.net caches
-Changing ingame Graphics from low to high and back
-Setting the right GPU ingame
-Switching between DX11 and DX12
-Setting different render-scales
-Playing with different compatibility modi for the WoW.exe
-Setting a higher priority in TaskManager
-Changing DNS settings
-Monitoring TaskManager while raiding to check if GPU/CPU are fine
-Disabling advanced combatlogging ingame

Nothing helped.

My speccs :

-AMD Ryzen 5 3600
-GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER
-16GB RAM
-Newest Windows 11 update

This ran absolutely fine BEFORE the WOTLK Prepatch with 144fps (and HZ) in Raids.
I really hope someone can help, this gets really annoying.

PS. If you need a DXDIAG log file, let me know

A DXDIAG file would certainly be useful here, but I would also suggest to do a fully clean test of WoW since from the list it appears there was no point where the addons were just completely uninstalled (disabling is rarely enough).

Isnt deleting everything and installing it again (my 2nd bullet point) the same as the solution you linked?

Heres my DxDiag log https://pastebin.com/9XRzJBhj

Unfortunately, not necessarily - reinstalling addons (even if they are fully up to date) also potentially includes putting whatever may have been causing the problem originally back into place.

From the DXDIAG record the hardware should have no issue handling the game on the raw performance level, so provided said hardware is actually working as it should then there must be some external factor effectively “throttling” performance here. Addons are quite capable of doing that, so my recommendations remains to test the game fully without them - just to make sure they’re not muddling up things.

I meant to say that i did that already - I reinstalled WoW and had everything deleted beforehand and played without anything. I did NOT reinstall WoW AND my AddOns at the same time ^^, without testing the fresh install without AddOns.

Something to add to my topic: These lags arent present in a 5man dungeon or a 10man raid, its the 25man raid where its really really noticeable and i lose like a 100fps infight.

Hey, I’m having same issue. Fps drops really low in 25m raids. Did u ever get that fixed?

nope, nothing new

There are numerous threads opened for this issue on EU/US forums.
Nothing from Blizzard except “check if any app/Windows feature slow down your performance” which is not the case at all.
Also this started to happen only the day prepatch was released back in TBC raids.
This is poor optimisation of WOTLK client for modern hardware I believe.

yeah exactly, i found some threads in the US forums but couldnt login there to reply :expressionless:
sooo waiting on a new blue to maybe give another solution that i didnt try yet

Have you tried monitoring your cpu cores when the lag happens? Maybe one of your cores are getting slapped with something. MSI Afterburner is good for this.

Only via TaskManager so far, i can give afterburner a shot, thanks

Its most likely not your PC. The game is not working correctly. A lot of people seem to have this issue.

Everywhere in the game I’m sitting at 250-300fps. As soon as I enter a 25man raid the fps starts fluctuating like crazy and stutter like hell. It still remains high but its almost chugging if that makes sense. Like, even the UI is lagging. The default cast bar is stuttery even. Something is clearly wrong with the game.

The problem here is tho, just a small amount of people experiencing this issue, so its harder to figure out i would guess - it has to be the game itself PLUS specific hardware maybe, i dont know.

I’ve tried everyting. Made sure all drivers are up to date including bios and chipset. I bought a new SSD and just installed the game on that one. I made sure my windows install is functioning as intended. I made sure my OC was super solid with extensive testing of both my RAM and CPU with prime95 alongside others. I even optimized the system for DPC latency and tried disabling inspectr and meltdown security patch to see if it would have an effect. Yet, as soon as I get in to a 25 man raid. The game goes to sh*t.

And no before anyone says something about tempetures. My rig is not overheating. I make sure all of that stuff is sorted when I establish my OC.

On another note. During the raid I disabled addons left and right to no avail. Same issue. I swapped between dx12 dx11 and dx11 legacy. No change. The only conclusion is that the game is broken. If not, I’m all ears.

specs:
i7 6700k @ 4.5ghz
16gb ddr4
GTX 1080Ti (running factory OC)
250gb SSD OS drive
1TB SSD storage drive
1200w PSU

Sure, the componets are not the latest but everything is maintained and working as intended. I get 360 fps in OW2 without issues, I get 250+ fps in R6 Siege. And as I mentioned earlier in WoW Classic I get 250-350fps (I cap it ingame to 300 with /console maxfps 300) everywhere I go. Even in 10 man raids. But when I enter a 25 man raid my game breaks???

A new reply would be nice @Veadsarias

Same issue here. It happens on big pulls sometimes, certain graphical elements like smoke above fire or the worst offender by far is Sartharion’s wall of fire. I have an older gpu GTX 1080 which should do ok in WoW but everytime i’m raiding and those fire walls raise up my fps drops from 100+ to 2-3 a second. I can’t literally control my character.

It’s very likely to be Wow’s Engine based on when these happen.
The only solution is to drag the graphical settings to 1-3 / 10. It’s the only thing I’ve found to work (and I’ve tested disabling addons like Details, and such).

So if you want to raid and not wipe to any mechanic take graphics down to very low. (Btw never had this issue in any of Shadowlands content).

Sounds like u have a different Issue tho, because u can fix it by turning down your graphic settings - But in my case that didnt work at all

Same problem here, high fps drop in 25man raids at any pull. Nothing makes it better.

Same issue here, the whole guild pretty much has the same issue. When will it be fixed Blizzard?
