Would it be time to start talking about A.V 1.12

It’s been a long time I feel that this subject hasn’t been discussed.

Although it had been discussed to death prior to the release of Classic, I believe that now that people have experienced for a month the patch 1.12 it would be time to discuss it again.

Don’t get me wrong, I am having fun in Classic. But it is a fact that the patch 1.12 as a final patch carries over the nerf of several patches giving us a world with raids, dungeons and mobs that are considerably easier than they were originally designed.

Yes, we have more knowledge than we used to but finishing Molten Core before the max level, with only greens and without Fire Resistance is the direct result of several patch making mobs easier, buffing items and re-designing classes and abilities.
BWL will be doable by level 58 in greens and blues as well.

Ultimately, is this “water downed” experience bad per se? Honestly not so much. Who really plays Vanilla wow to get challenged in PvE…

But Alterac Valley is a different matter. It is a PvEvP event and the latest patches really stripped the battleground from its original soul. The BG was left empty, with easily accessible bosses and made the optional quests pretty much worthless. Where you used to feel part of a giant ongoing battle, the last version was just a confusing rush on an empty plain to the last graveyard.

For those who experienced it, or seen it in videos/twitch for beta; the battleground does feel empty and looks pretty much the same every time every time (choke point at Icewind Bunker, Choke point at StormPike graveyard, take stormpike aid station do Vanndar OR Take Snowfall Graveyard, get to Garrison then Iceblood graveyard with a small chokepoint then rush to Relief hut with little resistance then boss).

The optional quests are really worthless, the mines are useless and defending the towers and bosses are not as good because it is just better to go as fast as possible than defending. The Honor Per Hour is more important.
An argument that many people used that said AV 1.12 was fine said that people would not rush through the content, or if you didn’t want to, just don’t do it.
Considering the “new meta” of spell cleave and or melee cleave, does anyone still believe the meta of Alterac will not be about rushing to the end boss to get your honor as fast as possible?

Hence, I would like to ask Blizzard to work on a different version of Alterac, such as the versions 1.5 or 1.8 where the mobs are considerably stronger (keep in mind we will still have the current abilites, with the buffed items of patch 1.12), and where the strategic points of Alterac Valley are still important to capture and defend, with a middle neutral army rather than being able to rush to the end boss.

You are misremembering Alterac Valley. AV’s main problem was that instances never ended, that HKs became worthless after about 25 minutes, and that it was difficult to advance without the entire raid being present.

Av was intended to be a Warcraft 3 experience, and ended up turning into a PvE race. This is because it was actually a PvE instance masquerading as a battle ground, because the mobs are nowhere near as smart as the players, and a zerg of 40 players will always kill a group of 20 just through sheer numbers, so it is impossible to maintain a defenders advantage.

Just through optimisation of time and energy, the zerg will therefore PvE race each other, with the occasional annoying straggler slowing the zerg down.

I started on TBC, and I must admit I am much more curious about original Alterac than 1.12 version (which is similar to what I know from what I understand).

I am indeed a bit fearfull of what it would look like in 201… I mean 2020. 40 men sapper charge zerg-rush. Most likely. But I am not even sure original Alterac can save us from that !

I only have private server experience of AV and im sure it was an amalgamation of different patches of AV. It was still decent.

I dont think it’s the end of the world but less isn’t better when it comes to AV.

If I see a “timer” in AV or in any PvP Instance in Classic?
Im deleting retail/classic and every Blizzard game.
Playing AV Private server instead for the rest of my life.
Played on and off since 2005 give me last tiny reason to end this suicide of a game.
