Would you agree to remove gearing in low levels?

Hey, just a an idea, want to know opinions.
I think people hate leveling because it kinda is irrelevant in terms of end-game. Like you start a progression from level 1 to 59, and it’s like 0-100%. And then when you are 60, your character actually gets worse, which makes no sense. And the progression bar is reset to 0% again (gearing starts here).

The idea is to make leveling 2-4 weeks process, and provide players upgradable gear at the beginning. Let’s say you complete a dungeon, if you got a chest piece, you get the transmog option for it, and you can use it to upgrade your current chest peace. This system is not something new and exists in many other mmos.

Right now we have 2-3 days of leveling, in one day you might change 3 weapons and 3 chest pieces. That kinda makes the gearing irrelevant and boring. It removes the feeling of the MMO. The upgradable gear could be done in a way that if you do extra activities, like exploring the old locations, clearing old raids and dungeons, your gear will be upgraded, and, what’s the most important, it can be used when you are at the max level. So, instead of starting your 60 level with 120ilvl, you could start with 265 ivl. This way, while leveling your alt, you will also feel that you are not wasting time because your end-game gear will be nice, and you will have a head start. And, by clearing the old raids and dungeons, they will not be forgotten and will be used again. And, it will be an amazing opportunity to clear the old raids for transmogs too.

In summary, we get upgradable gear at low level (let’s say after reaching level 10) and then every time we get gear, it gets upgraded. Epic gear (like old raid gear) will upgrade it better. It will have a max cap, of course. The leveling will take longer, but it will be more meaningful.

I remember leveling my lock for a month (cuz I am superbly slow) in legion, and now I remember my monk being lvld up in 3 days, and I feel more connected to my warlock. My monk feels artificial (sorry monkie, mommy still loves you, but not as much).

Why is this needed the game is in already poor state and leveling will not fix it or bring back players because if they want a long leveling experience they can play classic for it.

And why does the game have to “mean” something ? it is just a game meant for fun and escape its just pixels and means nothing in the long run its the people in it that matter.

Lmao, why would anyone play a game where it takes ages to level?

I think for many mmo players, the roleplay part is important. Not everyone plays the game for sake of escapism. I play just for fun, for example.

Hm, ages? Not sure if 2-4 weeks is ages. And btw, the game we are talking is from the MMO genre. An interesting fact that people forgot.

So many players give up after reaching 60 level. I had a guild in a new server, from 200 people only 2-3 left to play after reaching 60. But while being low level, they were actively playing.

It is ages.

When wow was at its peak (from vanilla to wotlk) it was around 2-4 weeks to get top level. So, you say “who wants to play 2-4 week for ages” is just wrong. Wotlk had like 12-13 million monthly subs and nobody was complaining about long leveling.

I already proved it. If it had 13 million monthly subs, it means people were happy with it.

You haven’t proven anything. You claim NOBODY had a problem with how long it took to level. Provide the proof.

It’s a generalized term. This is not academic research, so maximalist statements are fine.
The point is that the expansions had long leveling and it was on the peak popularity, which proves your words that “who wants to play a game that takes ages to level up” wrong.

Popularity of the game has nothing to do with it taking long to level.

I didn’t say that. You said, “who wants to play a game that takes ages to level?” and I answered, “13 million people per month.”

People played it because it was the best MMO on the market and among the better games at the time. Not because they enjoyed the leveling process or had no problem with it. If you try to pull that same thing today, it’s going to cause a looooot of problems, because WoW no longer holds the same pull with the countless of other games there are to play.

P. S And it won’t cause any problems. The top mmos in the world like FF or genshin take long time to level anyways. And how they level, how they play at low levels has effects on their max level.

Out of all my friends who tried classic, only 1 stuck with it. All of them cited it taking too long to level as the reason for not continuing.

Even now on on the wotlk servers I see people complaining about how long it takes to level, WITH a +50% exp buff.

No. I played FFXIV, what takes time is doing the story, especially if you want to read/see cutscenes etc, not the lvling itself. If you want to you can just level without doing the story but that locks you out of big parts of the game but it’s a lot faster than doing the story.

People will get bored levelling for a month. Plus, if you just get upgradable gear there will be no transmogs, no excitement in getting new loot. Also, there many ways to level a char. The beauty here is the choice. One can level slowly by doing all quests, another will power-level. Meaningful should be end game. And fun too.
