With Cataclysm classic coming up, there won’t be a way to play WoW classic except for classic hardcore. And even when there was WoW classic, it was plagued by scarce population, and variations not in the original.
Therefore, I propose a new variant of WoW classic, WoW classic bio - only one server worldwide, about the size of the vanilla French servers such as Elune or Archimonde. Better wait 5 minutes in queue to login and find a WoW truely alive than have the feeling to play offline and meet a random peep every 5 hours.
There will be only one server of WoW classic bio, and players will give the rythm to which it transforms into the next expansion, not a calender. Here’s how.
WoW classic starts as normal, with no fast XP, no “season of discovery”, with the epic hunter’s quest, and the AQ40 zone open but the raid instances unavailable. Just like in 2006, the AQ20 and AQ40 zone opens only when enough scarabs are collected to trigger open the event. Burning Crusade will open only say, three weeks after the first WoW classic bio guild will have killed the final boss of AQ40 (and that will take a while if the difficulty is identical to the original). Wrath of the Lich King will open only after the first guild has killed all bosses of Burning Crusade. Cataclysm bio will open only after the first guild killed the Lich King, etc. This will take years longer than the artificial progress, and will ensure an intensive nostalgic WoW classic experience.
We have Hardcore and Classic Era still, so not all true. Not only Hardcore.
But no, no way play Wrath, or even BC. I so much like Wrath Era servers. Want to not loose all I got and did there and world and … sigh … everything to Cata once again.
And you want
I hope you mean this for PvE server and not PvP; else no thanks.
Also hope you count on Era servers for all three to park characters on when we like no more progress; else no thanks.
I can assure you there will be WoW vanilla/classic servers for likely your entire life. WoW classic/vanilla will outlive retail.
You really think the Toyota Prius is gonna be around forever because it’s “new” and still being made. I don’t, i do think the classic Toyota Supra’s will be though. Forever maintained and cherished.
New subscribers to retail (and retention) must be at an all time low. How many of the players who started in shadowlands do you think would legit have Nostalgia in 10+ years time? Enough to cause a boom of private servers?
Top 100 movies made…how many were made this decade?
Could go on and on but classics, cult classics, cult following etc are real and that’s why things live on, often for what is practically forever. The systems in retail now are present in every single modern game, it’s no different from Warframe or any instance loading, attacks per min, META build farm fest. Mythic+ plus doesn’t create experiences, stories, memories, nostalgia for a wide range of players. It creates a soulless, toxic, go go go mentality amongst a very specific (and relatively small) player base.
Retail is not a classic, never will be it. No cult following. It has a shelf life. WoW Vanilla/classic does not.
Retail has far FAR more players than era and gets current support and new content. should blizz decide to shut down any servers classic servers are going to shutdown before retail. And in case wow ceases to exists alltogether there won’t be just classic private servers there will be private servers for any popular expansion that means private servers for: Vanilla, tbc, wotlk, pandaria,Legion
