I’m thinking maybe I’ll be better off waiting for the initial servers to fill, which I suspect will happen on launch day if not earlier, and then rolling on one of the “new” servers.
I just can hope Blizzard didnt underestimate the starting population that much… and it wont get unplayable and a frustrating experience… because, lets face it, a lot of us had taken several days off just to enjoy this… and seeing that few realms… gives reasons to concern
World PvP isn’t going to be anything like it was back in vanilla. With this few servers, resulting in huge mega servers that will be layer upon layer, World pvp will be all about scouting and controlling every layer, with a zerg jumping from layer to layer as needed. This extensive use of layering risk completely breaking the nostalgia and feeling that this is vanilla wow.
Hopefully the layering will be gone in a while.
No it’s not, hardly anyone is trying the stress tess compared to trying the launch, a huge amount of players are casuals. There will be ridiculous queues with 2 pvp servers for eu, saying other wise is literally voluntary ignorance. and anyone saying the servers will feel full do you even understand how layering works? 300,000+ on two servers? blizz already said they want vanilla like population so around 3k per layer
This was an intention from the start… well, at least to balance population between launch realms. They said they’d monitor it and if X realm had chances of getting locked, they’d launch a warning when creating a character.
Please, for the love of Azeroth, change EU server names to something more appealing (Chromie and Auberdine are OK). There are some suggestions in this thread:

From Defias Brotherhood to Zandalar Tribe. Here we go World of Warcraft again!
Will you be considering integrating a realm transfer option in the future (if it becomes needed)?
It seems that with only 2 English Speaking PVP EU Realms, that these realms are the ones massively at risk of being overpopulated and ppl don’t want to be sitting in an hour long waiting queue every time they try to log on.
Whilst with modern streamers etc there are numerous other factors that could wreck a realm economy or prohibit other players enjoying the game
Lame question maybe, but how does layering work, i.e.: if I am in layer#4, will I be there forever or will I be put into different layers each time I log in?
Also: if me and friends want to form a guild, but we fall into different layers… How do we end up in one layer?
The layer in which you are is random and changes all the time (which is one of the biggest criticism… imagine suddenly being ported into a zone and aggroing a lot of mobs and being killed because of that).
If you are in a group/raid, everybody will be transferred to the group/raid leader’s layer.
From experience, I’d say that you fall into a different layer each time you login (with certain CD. If you log in to log with an alt and go back to the initial character, the layer will be the same. But the layer will be different when you log out and go to sleep and connect the day after).
As for guild/friends, it should work like in retail: you’ll move to the layer the “leader” of the group is… As for guild-level, no idea so far.
While I do know that hardware has evolved a lot since original vanilla days, I also know that me and like 9 more colleagues are waiting for the release and not participating in the stress test. I can imagine how many more people could be doing that as well. So it will be interesting to see how it goes @ launch.
With the RP community being still pretty active after almost 15 years in this game I really wish there was at least a RP server for French and German players to be able to roleplay in their native language. I know that for many people the language barrier will be one they won’t be able to overcome so they will be actively blocked out from doing what they love most - roleplaying WoW. Please, reconsider adding localized RP servers to the list.
Thanks! Bad news though
W e can now then assume there will be plenty of layers… Damn… I was hoping for the vanilla-like sense of community. And there will only be strangers wherever I go.
Damn
Numbers are fine, just because 100k people joined the first 2 hours does not mean this will be a constant. On the long run numbers will settle, and i would rather have 2 solid servers (PVP) rather than the cross-realm fiasco it is now on retail.
I’m really afraid PVP realms will fill up fast and everyone will just roll on the RPPVP, thus ruining the RP potential on the server.
Can we trade one english PvE server for another PvP server pls?
Tbh, I don’t care about the name. Will miss Argent Dawn though.
You do realise that layering will last a lot longer than intended if they decide to only have 2 PVP servers? and that every time you log out and back in (changing layers) you won’t even recognise half the players around you (Not vanilla-like).
