WoW dev leaving the team

TL:DR

It seems like the devs themselves are conflicted on what the game should be and if the modern approach is really the right one.

Also the class design team seems much smaller and more overworked than we thought.

I feel for the guy, its not easy mane
If you consider that Broken Sword is an objectively good game, then you also have to know that in 2020 no one would buy this game.

Huh the game is going downhill for like 8years now. Did they just only now realised it? Im sure not the game is the main reason why people leave blizzard, more like some work/company problems but its easier to say this. But from the latest news Im start to get really pessimistic about the wow’s future…

Can you take a step back and think about this sentence a bit further please.
“for 8 years”
8 years is already 7 years longer than 99% of all the other games survive in the heads of the people / devs.

Wow future is bright!!! /S

Because other games aren’t made to last for 10+ years with new expansions. Most games are just made to play through and be done with it and buy the next one so its makes no sense to compare wow with other games because they have an entirely different business model.

It’s a tricky balance, yes. He says that the modern game is lacking human drama - yet here on the forum we have several threads complaining about the zombie invasion. The zombie invasion is essentially WoW giving players the option to control the storyline (in a limited way) and lots of players don’t like that because they don’t want other players influencing (or as they see it, interfering with) their own gameplay .

Blizzard used to be a company that stuck to their vision no matter what. That’s what made WoW successful.

I feel like certain devs want to get back to the roots but it’s too late now. Once you give in to demands you can’t go back.

Not to mention that simple devs don’t hold much decision power. It’s all on the higher ups.

I especially found it interesting that there’s a serious disconnect between the lore team and the game design team. They don’t share the same vision.

You are comparing WoW to other nit-so-much popular MMO-s which have had no measuring up factors to wow in entirety of their existence. Instead of comparing to what it was to what it is now.

With just same logic we might as well make the just slightly better then others and leave it as it is - it will still be considered worse game then it was.

but you have “what it was”!! You have classic, and maybe later TBC. There you have it.
I’m also not fond of alot of stuff WoW adds to the game (Especially if they try to make download some mobile apps or similar) but they need to do that to keep a position in the marketplace.

This is how it rolls sadly…

Yes those what it was was almost two decades ago and it felt fresh and engaging. Felt like a challenge and vibrant now the demand cant match the actual thing. Because the company ideology has changed on the expense of what made blizz games good imo.

Adepting to modern days is not bad thing but maintaining the core values matter

Activision’s direction kills intellectual property and destroys the drive to create. Imagine my surprise. There’s a reason why former Blizzard staff is fleeing the sinking ship and forming new companies as soon as their non-compete is over.

Sounds like wow has attracted and fostered a singleplayer mentality. Which is what has - in part - caused the problem sir is talking about in the clip.

Ofcourse they will feel conflicted.
For every single decision they make, no matter how minor, it seems like the cool thing nowadays is to complain.

Anyone would feel conflicted.

If Blizzard actually went one way and stuck to it (obviously not blindly, but don’t budge on core stuff like the MMO aspect) and accept player losses, wow would be a much better game.
Right now they are trying to accommodate everyone and end up pissing off many people all the time.

Next time , Kaleiki should think less of what HE WANTS, and focus what would COMMUNITY wants.

Community doesn’t know what it wants.

Nah, I wouldn’t concentrate on that either.

If the “community” would decide the content of every musical artist it would mean that 100% of the guy bands play ACDC and all the female artists would walk around with no clothes on :ok_hand::wink:
