Hi all,
I moved to the recent i7-14700K with 32 GB DDR5 RAM. Had 46 GB RAM before that on the old system (moved from 4 Slot to 2 Slot RAM).
But WoW does not start anymore. It is simply a black screen. Clicking into it results into the Windows default “no response anymore” message.
In the Task Manager, the process sticks with 5% CPU usage, 750 MB RAM and no disk usage what so ever.
I did literally every trick in the forms. Including this: https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/18769
I reinstalled wow, reinstalled battlenet, deleted all folders etc.
After starting the computer, closed all programs and still no luck.
Tried the -dx11 / dx12 startup trick plenty of people report, but doesnt work.
I am currently out of ideas…
you wrote you had 46 GB ram before but how did you manage to get that specificly?
to me it sounds like it was shared with your GFX.
also which GFX do you use atm?
Yeah on the old Mainboard, i had DDR4, so i could reuse the even older DDR4 DIMMs.
So i had 2x 16 GB and 2x 8 GB. Sorry, it was 48 GB.
Now i got only 2x 16 GB DDR5. (I misclicked on the order, so ended up with 32, but still enough to run everything).
I have an RTX3070 GPU.
Everything else works like a charm.
The only thing is i am seeing in event viewer is the hung of the wow exe after i click into the window.
do you see any error in event viewers for wow?
Sorry, edited this one above: I am only seeing the error caused by the exe stop working based on the clicking into the wow.exe after it does not do anything. This is logged.

you wrote you have tried reinstalling wow aswell but when you did that did you also delete all the folders that contains your char info etc?
this sounds like there is some corrupt files in the folders that contain that info which make your game stop working or hang as the error say.
so basicly battle.net and retail folder.
Yes i deleted everything and then reinstalled wow.
I also reinstalled Battlenet. But i did not delete every bnet files. I can try that.
You may need to delete your files in your temp folder. But mainly resetting your UI could also clear this up. Could you please list your new system in order down the page and not running together. We just need to verify that everything is either minimum or recommended hardware.
Delete everything and installed everything fresh. Still nothing.
I am running right now:
i7-14700K
ASUS TUF Gamging B760 Plus
G.Skill DIMM 32 GB DDR5 (2x 16GB)
RTX3700

I need you to verify if you card has a 3D acceleration mode… One thing I noticed on the Blizzard (acceptable video cards) site in fine print it says that if your card has 3D acceleration, The game will not support this. So lets find out if your card has this. If it does, You’ll need to access this option and disable the 3D acceleration.
https://www.nvidia.com/content/Control-Panel-Help/vLatest/en-us/mergedProjects/nv3d/To_adjust_3D_hardware_acceleration.htm
The other thing I would suggest is that most Viewsonics tend to have drivers, yours may not. But it’s worth a try to visit their site. Also, for the time being… let’s remove the viewsonic and plug the Dell directly into the closest DMI or alternative.
your info is wrong here since wow does support these cards which blizzard clearly state on their support site.
this issue he is having have nothing to do with hardware since everything else is working for him and the issue have something to do with game files.
So - I upgraded the Mainboard OS as well. Still no Luck.
I installed all drivers once again.
By using the DX11 String, it is picked up by the log, but still does not do anything.

when you go into settings is it set to Dx11 or Dx12?
if it is set to Dx12 can you try set it to Dx11?
seems to me there is something missing that wow need.
idk if you have updated everything in windows update.
This Log occur, if i explicitly call DX11 in the startup parameters.
I guess Blizzard is doing it like that.
But removing the DX11 flag will load the right logs. See above:

tbh it is really wierd that the game is still hanging and at this point i am basicly out of ideas on this.
i am so sorry that i cant be at more assistance to help you solve this 8-(
Thanks for your help!
I am completely out of ideas. I created a Blizzard Support ticket, which they closed with “do the standards and go to the forums”.
The CPU is quite new.
Also the Downgrade of RAM could be an case.
I started also to uninstall programs left and right like overwolf etc (general overlay apps). But still no help.
i hope you get it resolved fast though so you can play the game
I am currently looking the process monitoring.
So while the process is in lock state and black, you still see connections made by Blizzard. So i tried to change to my LTE phone connection but still its not opening.
i wonder if this is because wow isnt allowed in your firewall.
this is just an idea so i dont know if it works.
Just wondering: What happened in your Logs after my parts?
So what should be the next entries?
In gx.log →
