WoW Housing First Impressions & Feedback From Someone Typically Not Into Housing in Other Games

Hi!

As mentioned in the title, I’m typically not someone who’s done home/base building in other games much, and the most common reason for this has been accessibility (costs too much, or no slots available etc.) so I’m going to write my feedback and observations from a completely inexperienced point of view. I am however interested in WoW Housing, as I love collecting stuff in WoW I’m a big transmog enthusiast, and have a ton of mounts as well, and Housing will scratch my collector itch a lot from what I’ve seen so far.

  • I only had time to explore Founder’s Point which is absolutely stunning. I had one wish straight away, which was the Teleport there should just dismount me like how pressing your Hearthstone does instead of giving me an error message that I’m mounted.
  • The introduction Quest for me kind of ended with, the “place 4 decors in your house” quest, I was given an axe to chop trees afterwards and that was it. I’m not sure if that’s a PTR bug or intended but I felt like I needed a lot more tutorial. I was able to figure out some stuff for myself but I felt constantly like I’m missing information. I saw others could edit their exterior and I couldn’t, and not sure why and there was no tutorial for that either.
  • My first stop was at the decor vendors. I immidiately wanted a “Learn All Decor” Button In my Inventory, because clicking though all those took a long time even if they were instant it would still take long. Just implement into our bags a Learn All Decor button or something like that please as we’ll buy multiple at once more often than not.
  • Editing Phase seemed pretty good and understandable I can see myself spend hours with this, as I already found myself doing so on the PTR starting out and then 2 hours later I’m wondering where the time’s gone so it’s pretty addicting but I have some feedback on that as well in the following points:
  • The biggest is imo we need an “Undo” button. Just like in most editing softwares, having an Undo button is crucial imo that reverts your last action. I accidentally deleted an entire room yesterday that I decorated nicely because of a misclick and it felt devastating that I couldn’t undo that. I’m sure I won’t be the only one making a mistake like this in the future.
  • I wish we had Copy/Paste option for placed Decor. When I place down, an object I want to be able to copy and paste attributes (size, position, color if I have dyes available) as long as I have multiple of those objects (decor). We kinda have this function for walls and floors just need for everything else now.
  • When I scale a couch or a chair bigger my character will clip through it sadly :frowning:
  • I completely missed the Floors for the first time, I was really confused after placing a Staircase how to add another level… it took me a while to see in the bottom right corner that there are floors. Should be included in the tutorial or make it bigger and more obvious because it’s easy to miss imo.
  • I wish we could drop and drag objects to create a row of them. Outside I wanted a row of bushes on either side of my little pathway leading up to my door and making sure they are in a symmetrical order was a challenge. I wish we had a drop and drag in a direction that would create a row of them in a line allowing to use as many of those objects as our inventory allows.
  • Dyes: I couldn’t test this much, I saw no vendor selling dyes and I didn’t have time to explore the profession side of things but one thing I’ll say: Let us preview dyes on objects. I wanted to check out how purple curtains would have looked but the dyes would only show up after applying but I think they should become visible beforehand, and if you press Cancel then it should obviously just return to normal/previous color and if we press Apply it should just apply those changes. But Previewing how objects would look dyed is important!

That’s it for Editing. Now moving on to feedback about interacting with other players houses.

  • “Allowing Access” and “Allowing Editing” should be 2 different options! Currently Allowing Access, allows for other players not only to visit but also edit your property! I found out this the hard way today when on the PTR I returned to my house and my front yard had all of a sudden more bushes and trees and fences. The word “Allowing Access” is misleading, I did not think this would mean editing as well just visiting. I want to allow other players, anyone to visit my house but I DO NOT WANT THEM TO BE ABLE TO EDIT! After I revoked All Access to my House, I could not remove the other persons decor from my own yard which is funny and now that I revoked access how would they get it back???
  • In light of my previous comment, hoping Allowing Visitors and Editing being separate options I wish the Neighbourhood Roster would show and Icon or Text next to player’s names who allow visitors or editors or both. I wanted to check out other players houses but I had to fly around and just hope I finally won’t get the tresspass message. Would be easier if we could see it on the board.
  • I also wish, the Neighbourhood map would do the same. Show a different Icon or Color for homes that Allow Visitors or Editors (or both) even in other Neighbourhoods.

Last but not least, I want to give some feedback about the Catalogue UI, I know it said it’s in progress but want to give suggestions anyway:

  • option to zoom in
  • an option to rotate vertically as well because currently rugs can’t be looked at, at all
  • I wish there was an option to track these items if they can be like how it works with Transmog
  • Allow us to set favorites
  • Allow us to filter by owned and not owned
  • Add filters for items by source (e.g vendor, raid, treasure, quest etc.)

This is what I had time for. As mentioned at the start, I haven’t played Housing in other games, and I never sought out games that were revolved around it either. So far however I had a lot of fun with this even with the very limited time I had. I can see myself sink a lot of hours on this but only after I collected as many decor as possible. I’m looking foward to this feature a lot, and I hope my feedback makes it to the dev team!

Thanks for anyone reading!
