Where does this notion come from, wow would end just because there is no more Story left? Thats not how a million dollar product works. In this matter, the story is irrelevant and only the icing on top of the cake. As long as this game makes money, there will be new story. Besides that, just this blizzcon they said something along the likes of “Shadowlands is the first time we start to explore our cosmology chart.” The first. Not the last. If Wow ever ends, it certainly wont be because of a lack of story.

True but the main enemy of the current expansion is the last of the old gods once we take care of him in 8.3 this arc is over and we will have only two stories left to tell.

“Shadowlands” is essentially the first true new expansion since “Mists of Pandaria”. It’s a completely new world/dimension and the Shadowlands do not have any large previously established lore only short and small notes here and there. It’s the first expansion without any old burden attached to it. Sure, we have Sylvanas but she has no longer any connection to the Alliance, the Horde or the players and has become (more or less) just another bad guy similar to Kil’jaeden, who was also important in the lore but in the end he was just another bad guy.

You’d be surprised with the amount of crazy storytelling someone can come up with, when it comes to sustain a profitable service/product.
Everquest is still going.

They can always just create something new out of thin air like Pandaria.
They created so much lore and history for that place and it was really good imo.
Of course that something that they create isn’t guaranteed to be good but even if it isn’t I doubt it’s gonna end WoW, especially since the majority of people don’t actually care about this game’s lore.

They can always make the next Warchief comically evil and then force Horde players to overthrow him with the help of the Alliance. Blizzard firmly believes that this is a real showstopper.

WoW will most likely outlive you given that classic is keeping it alive the game would simply go into maintenance mode
heck ultima online is still running and that was released in 24. september 1997
and let’s not forget everquest 1 basically as long as there are people playing the game will stay alive
I agree with this. There’s still a substantial playerbase, lots of unfilled gaps in the lore, and many unexplored places. Warcraft has the advantage of being a medieval fantasy setting which also includes planetary travel.

and there is nothing stopping the void lords from dropping down 6 new old gods on to azeroth eighter, heck anything can happen.
Ultimate suggestion: what about Blizzard running wild with the HotS nexus thing and having WoW players encounter stranded Starcraft characters in a crash landing? Like, sci-fi/fantasy crossover. I bet that would be polarizing as hell (which might not be a bad thing in terms of marketing).

In the last addon we used space ships to cross magic portals to attack space demons, who have their own space ships. with magic swords. This addon we had a side story about stopping the little Cybermen from “upgrading” the world.
We’re already there.
