They literally acknowledge that the game is too complex to play “natively” without any addons. The skill ceiling is so high that third party software are required to play the game at an “optimal” level.
Instead of adressing this issue, by not creating the game around addons, they just add a one button macro to the game akin to a mobile game playing the game AFK for you.
This is why WoW was always the king, it was accessible, still not easy to play, but it didn’t require the dedication of Everquest and which is why it remained on the throne for so long.
Blizzard now keeps catering to the same elite raiders that whined about WoW being too easy when Everquest was the best MMORPG on the market, and we can all see where that went.
WoW is really lucky that there hasn’t been a passionate MMORPG on the market. But we can see that it’s really trying hard to maintain. MMORPG just needs to die at this point.
The one button rotation option won’t be game breaking. It won’t get people to the top and it won’t be a thing elite players will use in a competitive environment due to the draw back of the GCD on it. It will however make the game more accessible to people with disabilities and i think that’s a great thing.
You know I keep seeing this pop up, but have any of you people actually interacted with people with disabilities?
WoW has always had programs incorporated where it helps people that are colourblind, partly deaf or blind. You know why? Because people with disabilities DO NOT LIKE TO BE HANDHELD.
People with disabilities don’t want to be dumbed down like this, this is the opposite of “making the game more accessible to people with disabilities”.
I did not know i was speaking with the Disabilities spokesperson, my bad.
Also nothing this one button does will have an affect on anyone that doesn’t want to use it.
There’s already quite a lot of positive feedback from people with disabilities, and I guarantee that people with a problem appreciate the help, compared to just living with an objective disadvantage because you’re projecting some weird pride on them. If I can’t move my legs, a wheelchair IS better than dragging myself on my elbows. If I’m a quadriplegic and literally can’t move my fingers, being able to play with one button makes the experience better.
And I frankly don’t see the correlation between this and “MMORPG just needs to die at this point.”
WoW has some very difficult content and it’s a complex game, but it’s also very accessible at a low level. This makes it objectively more accessible and allows people with some disabilities to play more comfortably, without detracting from the complexity and challenge.
I swear people on this issue are talking as if they don’t have any empathy or desire to connect with other players. If one of my friends/guildies is struggling, be it because of a disability or because they’re a senior player not used to games, and the game helps them out without compromising on difficulty and complexity, it’s a win-win situation. They’re happier because they can access the game more easily and feel less like a dead weight, I’m happier because I get to enjoy the game with my friends.
We’re not all equal in ability, but we’re equal in dignity and as parts of a community, so it’s nice if the game facilitates players who are struggling for whatever reason.
Let’s stop making up issues where there’s none.

or Change the foundations of the game radically and profoundly.
These are painkillers that do not prevent the patient from dying, they only slow down the rate of death. :
1 : keeping the forums positive with Side and misleading discussions fake positive writers.
2: bringing more updates to M+
3 : making the game easier for all kind of players.
4: Turning away from game problems and player screams
5 : wasting energy and time on working on classic versions of the game in 2025 instead of fixing the big problems.

If you’re going to critcise their intentions at least understand what they are. As much as I dislike Ion he spoke with a lot of detail and nuance about exactly this in the interview.

Ion Hazzikostas has said in the interview specifically that they want the game to be designed in the future around the information on the screen without using third party addons. The 1 button rotation was only briefly mentionned in the 40 minutes long interview.
You have a penalty for using said button. You have an additional 200ms on your rotation while also using a rotation that is most certainly not going to represent sim data.
And perform massively worse than your average person actually using their abilities manually.
Did you even watch the video of Ion explaining exactly who and what this is for? Or did you just read auto rotation and decided to punch your keyboard with bile and misinformation into a forum thread?
