According to this logic, someone who understands advanced calculus (and therefore belongs in the 0.1% of the human population) is bad/horrible at math simply because someone with PhD is significantly better.
If you measure them by “skill” they end up in the right part of the bell.
If you measure them by “progress” they end up in the middle or left part of the bell.
Boosting isn’t a gold sink because the gold just trades hands, it doesn’t disappear from the market. The BMAH is a gold sink, and crafting of course.
Hm, I just thought of something. If there was an in-game item that increased all player damage and hp by 2% in non-rated PvP for 1 month and it cost 1 million gold, would that be considered P2W? If it also applied to rated PvP would it be? If it was only available on the shop for 20€ (which is less than the value of 2 tokens ~800k right now) would it be?
Is the Dreambound Augment Rune which costs 100k a significant gold sink?
Regarding transmog, for me they dropped the ball on how it works. Transmog should change your characters appearance only for you; for everyone else you would still appear as a “clown”. And then there would be a consumable or a toy that allows you to see the transmog of other players. The fact that to this day there is no way to see other players without their transmog is outrageous when it does not detract from the enjoyment of other players.
Someone was wearing Tier 1? You knew they had completed Molten Core.
Today someone is running around with the Barbarian loincloth. You can’t really “read” anything from that.
So where transmogrification has given players lots of visual customization, WoW has also lost a lot of its visual recognition in the process. That was also Blizzard’s initial reluctance to introduce transmogrification in the first place, and why they had lots of restrictions on it to begin with.
It’s the best of both worlds. Players who want to see their characters transmogrified do so. And if they want to see other players with their transmogrifications they can do that again. And “old-school yelling-at-cloud” players like me and others can see other players as adventurers, or with their transmogrification if we want to.
Really, there’s no negative whatsoever.
No it’s not. What’s the point of the mog if only I can see it?
I can see their ilvl. Also who cares. If I like the mog of the new raid I will wear it, if not I won’t. Why should I care if you can see that I raided Aberrus LFR or not.
Agree, I use a mog because thats how i want other players to see my character. If they feel like they want to see my achievements they can look at them, although i cant imagine a situation where i would right click and inspect someone to see what they are wearing.
How can you measure something that isn’t made evident in the game though?
That was my point. Just because someone doesn’t do a type of content, doesn’t mean they’re bad at it perse.
You may want to rephrase that It appears as if you want to be the arbiter of what other people see on their screens.
As explained in my post, others would still be able to view your transmog whenever they would want to. If they wanted to, they would do so. If not, then not. This is better than the current system where I am forced to see everyone with their trasmog.
If you have defined “understanding advanced calculus” as belonging to the top 0.1% percentile of the population.
By definition they cant be horrible at math.
Horrible at math would be : belonging to the lower 0.1% percentile of the population.
And the guy with the PhD belongs to the top 0.01% percentile.
The “average math skill” should be : basic calculus given in high school. But because we all know not all kids listen to their teachers, the “real average math skill” is bellow high school calculus.
Is that good? Or bad? Dont know. Dont care. What matters is that most people did not listen to their math teachers in school.
Its basically what Elahra is saying. Makes sense.
Like I mentioned on a post above : “skill” is the ability of executing a mechanic.
Your famous bell curve measures : Ability to execute a specific mechanic. It has nothing to do with WHY they dont execute it. There is no “good or bad”. All that matters that they dont.
And as many people already said : most people (average) dont execute mechanics.
This is ridiculous. Its just so complicated for no benefit at all.
Also, I WANT people to see my mogs.
And sometimes, I actually talk to strangers about mogs : “how awesome ! where did you get XYZ item?”…
Nah… Go play classic if you want to see people dressed as clowns.
What you should 100% at a minimum is do what you preach : Remove all YOUR mogs (chest, weapon, ect…) and dress up as a clown.
Dont dare ask others to do it, if you wont do it yourself.
“Ah yes the rogue over there is wearing the Crit+Mastery bracers and not the Haste+Crit ones, truly an enlightened gentleman yes”. The important gear is usually effect items, which have a tendency to be trinkets, weapons and rings, non of those, except the weapon, are vissable on your character even if un-mogged.
There used to be an addon before transmog existed that let you to mog your character with whatever (even if not collected), but only you could see it. Idk if it still works but it seems like something Exiasee would like and they could not mog and let people see what they are wearing if it’s that important to them.
Also this reversing how transmog works will not bring back the ye olden days of “Oh gee mister you so cool B-cause you raided and look like a clown”, no one cares the best gear is a mismatch of Raids + Dungeons + Crafted gear. And this will also remove the current community interation we have of “Hey nice mog”.
But no one cares about other players. Isn’t that what we’ve established? No one cares what you look like. No one gives a hoot. It means nothing to anyone else whether you look like a clown or a shiny knight.
Thats why ppl dont want mogs though, they want to be like that guy in vanilla that stood on the mailbox in full tier 1 or whatever it was where you could see what they had achieved. Mogs ruined that others could «admire you» for your epic gear.
And they are free to do that. remove your mog and be that guy. I don’t want to be that guy, especially in the Amirdrassil tier, because yeah nothing screams warlock than a druid staff with a dream catcher.
