WoW : Midnight - Quel'Thalas Renaissance is finally coming true!

Ready for Silvermoon to be neutral?

At this point? Yes.

The divide between the High Elves and the Blood Elves was largely a political one and increasingly forced over time to account for the fact that the Blood Elves were only added to the Horde in the first place due the lack of a conventionally attractive playable race being present in the faction.

I very much like Blood Elves but my enthusiasm for them is largely tied to their original vibe - back when they served Kael’thas and were willing to do whatever was necessary in order to preserve their people and homeland.

We lost out on cool ties to the naga and demons so they could be ‘redeemed’ as if a race seeking to prevent their own extinction ever needed to be judged by modern day real world standards of morality.

Just like Night Elves ended up being led astray by those who only like them based on surface level and exaggerated traits (such as the cutesy nature lover stuff) so, too, were Blood Elves largely rendered increasingly toothless over time.

Void Elves being a thing is even more disappointing, since I would have liked the option for Felblood Elves to be something playable under similar ‘exploring the potential of darker powers’ logic.

I glad to see you are still goin strong Erevien.

But honestly, BE heritage armor’s quest kind of reveal the general meme’s virgin trajectory of writing for belfs, already. Not to mention addition of different eyes colors. So im not hyped over the writes team behind the Feel-O-Flight slog, to get their sticky pawn all over Que’Talas story.

But in “theory” if we could get actually lore accurate belfs from WC RPG, and WC3, the ones who refused to join Horde because Horde’s warlock drink demons kool-aid, instead of bend demons into submission and use them as battery for our Nokia wands, - this could be nice. But current blizzard has no stones to write stories even near as good as wc3 or RPG.

We’ve got at least another 2-3 years before Midnight releases. So let’s just hope the writing for this game visits the dentist and gets some of it’s teeth back.
As a generalisation it feels like everything has been getting a bit too soft and cuddly lately.

Personally, I don’t think the shift in focus for Blood Elves from fel back to holy centric is all that bad if you consider it a return to form for the elves before Silvermoon fell. But, it needs to retain an edge to keep them interesting and distinct from other races like humans. Like how the original concept for the Blood Knight order was more pragmatic and brutal in some ways, when compared to the Silver Hand. Almost, if not lawful evil aligned like the githyanki in BG3. For example, in one of the original TBC Belf paladin quests you duel to the death a fellow knight as part of your training (Then later resurrect him). In another you burn down a chapel of the Silver Hand in Stratholm to send a symbolic message to them.

My main worry is that every race presented in the game these days is diluted to the point of loosing their original character and appeal which made them compelling in the wider story. Actions that made them truly ‘morally grey’ or outright evil. Although I could be wrong, to me it feels like the way npcs talk and behave is way too homogonised at the moment from their quest text to their general dialogue spread throughout the game. It’s becoming increasingly harder to see those cultural differences between the races we play in some respects and differences in alignment.

In part I guess this is a consequence of driving a narrative to show increasing co-operation between all the races where the pendulum has swung from all out faction hostilities to peace. The problem being that there’s little to no conflict being shown to keep things interesting and show differences of opinion or goals etc… between the many races. We’ve gone from one extreme to the other in some respects with the story telling, where jolly co-operation is now king.

Honestly I would prefer for belf to stop sucking Light’s Kool-Aid, and go be Giga Chads, as they were after rude awakening in Frozen Throne, and TBC. This virgin’s Regent Lord, lamenting emo-pony garbage is just spit on the graves of everyone who died in the fall of Silvermoon.

It will happen if blizzard doesn’t go back to acknowledging the factions and keep this kumbaya neutrality going
My theory is they just refuse to make faction specific stories so everything has to be neutral so it can be played by both factions

I’m still vaguely hopeful we might get faction specific pve content Frostfire/Shadowmoon style at some point. Just different stories in different styles. Stories where we don’t need to contrast the factions against each other to see the difference. But I can’t really say that hope is based on evidence… The best I can do is “Well, Metzen is back, and the team seems big enough to do multiple things, so maaayebeee…”.
