Hello folks
I’ll start off saying that I don’t think this will ever happen (or maybe not never, but definitely not soon, considering WoW is a subscription service on it’s own)
But with Microsoft announcing Diablo 4 on Gamepass, the reality that Microsoft now owns these IP’s became more “real” in the sense that we are seeing it happening.
My question is: What would be the pros and cons of World of Warcraft on Gamepass?
The only advantage I see would be more players trying the game and maybe sticking with it.
The biggest downside I guess would be trolling and toxic behavior skyrocketing without the WoW specific subscription gatekeeping it.
Diablo and WoW are two very different games, Diablo is suited for console play whereas WoW is not so I don’t think WoW will ever appear on any console format.
WoW2 may be a different kettle of fish but as it stands right now WoW will remain PC only.
It would need to be bare bones WoW, there’s just far too much in WoW right now for a console version. I don’t play FF14 so I can’t comment even though it is coming to Xbox. Still, as far as I am led to be aware they are different games and FF14 was designed with consoles in mind with Squaresoft being a Japanese game developer. Japan is not known for it’s PC dominance, the Japanese unfortunately are the biggest videogame snobs in the world. If it isn’t made on a Japanese console by a Japanese developer they won’t play it no matter how good it is.
You just need to look at the uproar when Skyrim was released and Famitsu gave it a perfect score, it still sold dismally in Japan because Bethesda had made it and they’re American.
You’d be very surprised at how optimal wow is for really bad systems.
Xbox X could easily work with Warcraft and also the controllers are very much capable of working on warcraft.
My friend has a ROG which yes correct is as strong as a laptop though the ROG controller systems are pretty much the same as Xbox and they work flawlessly and have insane customisable options that Xbox could easily use.
The reason why Warcraft is the best game that could go to consoles is because it sits within a nice place graphically, Also if the game was put onto game pass you don’t actually need to use a console to play a lot of Game pass users still play a lot if not most of their games through PC such as myself.
I could imagine that they could balance the books by bringing the standard edition to the PC part of the game pass, with the subscription paid completely separately as it currently is. What they lost on standard edition sales they might get back on new subs. If the new players were on a Lvl20 trial account until they subscribed I don’t think it would hurt the existing population, and might bolster the longevity of the game.
