WoW on Gamepass

Not complaining just noting they are having a lot!

Pretty sure the game is screwed without it’s own revenue stream to fund development.

What income do you mean specifically? The existing customers that pay for a WoW subscription and Xbox Game Pass? Yes, that would be a loss, but that’s not the only customer group. I can think of the following groups:

    1. WoW Only
    • Some of these will be willing to pay €4 more over their €11 per month WoW subscription for Game Pass Ultimate (but not €15 per month for a separate Game Pass Ultimate subscription) for more gaming options.
    • +€4 / month gain.
    1. WoW and GP Basic
    • Rather than paying €11 for WoW and €10 for GP PC, they would pay €15 for GP Ultimate.
    • -€6 / month loss.
    1. WoW and GP Ultimate
    • These are the rich guys who currently pay for WoW and GP Ultimate. This is the group where the loss would be the greatest.
    • -€11 / month loss.
    1. GP Basic only
    • If WoW would make them consider upgrading to Ultimate, MS would profit.
      +€5 / month gain.
    1. GP Ultimate only
    • These are the customers that would basically get WoW for free.
    • +/-€0 / month, minus some additional infrastructure costs.
    1. Non-customers
    • Including WoW in GP Ultimate could also attract completely new customers.
    • +€15 / month gain.

The immediate change in income for MS by adding a WoW subscription to GP Ultimate depends on the customer distribution. We don’t have those numbers, so we can only make wild guesses. If there are very few customers who currently pay for both WoW and GP subscriptions but very many GP-Basic-only or non-customers who would up upgrade or sign up for the first time, it would be profitable.

You also need to consider that WoW gamers pay ActiBlizz/MS not only through subscription fees, but also in-game services (renames, server transfers, etc.), transmogs, mounts, gold, merchandise (e.g. collector’s editions, mugs, shirts, etc.), and BlizzCon tickets. It’s probably also easier to sell other Blizzard games (e.g. Warcraft Rumble) to customers who are familiar with Warcraft/Blizzard.

Cool, I’m a rich guy

:sunglasses: :dollar:

As a WoW gamer, I feel like I don’t have time for other games. I still have a Sony PS+ sub, but I don’t have time for all those free monthly games, so I won’t resub when that expires. :frowning:

If GP Ultimate would include the WoW subscription, I would probably upgrade to it for +€4 to try out some other stuff, like Forza Motorsports, but I’m not sure if I would permanently stick with it.

Does this mean that Chinese player will get wow again?

Its possible - IF MS can negotiate a deal with Netease that suits everyone. The censorship in the game would obviously still remain though

Idk, but i am guessing that MS already have many deals in china so they can for the lack of better term ‘to bypass’ that Netease entity.
I might be wrong.

I don’t think we have any way of knowing what they’ll do. It’s just a case of wait and see.

I can’t say I have any understanding of how gaming works over there, but as it all had to go through NetEase it seems unlikely.
