WoW pvp is not worth the time investment

I just started playing more again since wrath and it seems to me that the game has evolved to the point where for someone who doesn’t play all day, but still wants to have some fun in 2s and 3s, it seems impossible for me to even reach 1400 mmr. From boomies requiring you to insta kick convoke to rogues\mages entire class being designed to not let you play the game, to rets criting you for 15k, it seems to me that the class knowledge, mechanical skills and reaction time required for me to go past the 1200-1400 threshold would mean I start playing for 6-8 hours a day with a schedule on improving.

It seems ridiculous to that in order for the game to slow down a bit and allow me to think a bit more strategically, I need to get better gear which i cannot do since the upgrades are capped to your rating. I’ve played over 2000 games with both warrior and hunter (both at 200 ilvl) and the games I’ve enjoyed the most are the slower ones where i was allowed to think about what I was doing, and slowly take the other team down (or vice versa, when I lose like this I actually don’t mind it at all) unfortunately with the current meta this is the minority of the games right now. Wouldn’t it be more fair if it was the other way around, where great players with amazing knowledge and reaction times would play more fast paced whilst us noobs can a enjoy a slower meta untill we have the muscle memory to play like that aswell.

I’m not only blaming Shadowlands, I believe this is an inherent flaw of an MMO trying to balance both PvP and PvE content with a bunch of different class designs resulting in classes like rogues and mages being historically superior than everyone else and having a more vast toolkit to deal with everyone as well as the damage to delete you. This may only apply to me and the fact that I probably suck at playing online games since i never did it all the much but I’ve spoken with other people too and some share these frustrations

It seems to me that spending the time that someone like me would need to go past 1600 and maybe start enjoying the game more, I would need to sacrifice other aspects of my life and make this a proper goal. This led me to realize that I would much rather go fishing, work out, paint, learn literally anything else that would bear fruit much earlier and lead me to enjoy the activity, rather than keep getting frustrated by playing a 15 year old game in my 20s which needs the time investement of a full time job in order for me to gain some level of satisfaction from it.

And for what? reaching gladiatior doesn’t mean anything outside of people who play wow on a regular basis and that’s like 1-2 of my friends, it doesn’t make you cooler in anyway and doesn’t translate to useful life skills, which means that the only motive I would have would be if i enjoyed doing it. The reasons listed above are why after having tried it, I don’t

Sorry for the rant, I just had to get this off my chest, I’ll just unsubscribe and not bother with it anymore:)

That’s exactly what I think about wow pvp, just not worth the huge investment it takes to learn and master.
I simply play another game for pvp, since its quite obvious pvp is a sidedish at best in wow

In contrary for the first time it is worth the time investment.

The average player today is much better then back in the day, you’ll hear this sentiment echoed by pretty much every high rated pvp streamer.

Post-WoD perhaps.

Instead of wasting time writting this long post go watch streams and proper guides on youtube. 1400 rating is really easy if you know something about the game, are full pvp gear and play the proper comp.
In those streams/guides you will learn that you need every spell keybinded, important macros, must have addons, what to do with your class in pvp, etc.
In arena first you need to learn a lot, then you need to spam games to practice. You will begin enjoying the game when you start doing the right stuff + gain rating.

I’ve played PvP RPG games competitively for the past 20 years.

From Guild Wars 1 (still the best mmopvp ever), to League of Legends to WoW, etc.

A good requirement of class mechanics and class knowledge (every class, not just your own), has always been a requirement. The games haven’t changed, we have. When you’re 15 you can afford to play 4 hours a day obviously when you’re 30 you have other commitments and it doesn’t mean as much to you!

while I generally agree, in this season it doesn’t even matter how you play if you get randomly one shotted.

The bigger problem is that class and spec balance is often impeding your progress and the blizz shop.

People of fairly low skill level who cant throw a decent cc chain are getting carried by numbers alone, while someone who’s essentially in a lower weight class by simply playing the spec they like more has to invest a whole lot more time into perfecting their gameplay.

That, with the vague hope their spec will become relevant one day. Given there are some specs that haven’t been in the forefront for half a decade, this is a ridiculous prospect and understandably, most people just switch specs.

Despite all this, tough luck if what you invested hours and hours in perfecting again gets nerfbatted into oblivion, and you gotta restart the cycle again to stand a fighting chance.

Time to spend some cash every patch getting boosts, or invest even more time in a different class that you -MIGHT- enjoy as much as the previous one.

Or, forfeiting this just be a sub rogue/mage/disc priest and enjoy your ride to the top, no matter what happens to the rest of the rabble.

Even thought i quitted already after 2050 cr both brackets(lost interest). I played in total maybe 300-600 games each 2s or 3s before learnt how to. Could be better if we had stable healer to push but unfortunately, eh, it doesnt feel rewarding, feels like im playing 2/3 games VS boosters who play without stops for the Last 3 xpacs. But problem is, till 1800 its free way, dont even blame gear. You loose only because youre trying to play this arena as if you played the lich King. Adapt and grab points, lich King was alot easier but that doesnt mean you cant adapt to shadowlands playstyle. Change the mindset, you dont need to wait Priest to give ps before popping your burst abilities and so on. Neither you can kick whatever casts as shaman since you have windshear cd 15 secs and not 5/6. Alot of mechanics to theorycraft for you

The game feels ridiculous. If I’d create a tier list I’d probably leave out the A tier because the difference between S and A tier looks more like the difference between S and B tier right now. You have classes like firemage who has mobility, tons of cc, can steal buffs (while having some sort of dispell protection with their legendary), are tanky, have several defense abilities, have stealth and the strongest frontloaded burst in the game which is even off gcd. And you have classes which don’t even have half of this toolkit.

I’d recommend you to look up the burst setups on the classes (on a site like skillcapped) and then use Gladiatorlossa2 or create some weak aura warnings against the burst setups. Game is so full of cheese and burst that it becomes impossible to play without such addons for casual players imo.

Playing against classes like Paladins, Boomkins, fire mages, rogues is about having milisecond reaction time and hoping they dont crit for 15k. Also I’m playing a game, not trying to do a handstand. I have spent extra time learning from guides watching streamers like jellybeans and magnus untill i realized that, like a said, it’s a waste of time. You’re already talking about “wasting time” and"doing the right stuff" but when you’re playing a game it’s MAINLY supposed to be fun, I don’t want to grind and spend EXTRA time not playing the game in order to improve in something that in the grand scope of things is irrelevant to everyone around me. I do this when I want to run a marathon or learn a new language, not when you’re supposed to relax from all of this by playing a game. If i’m not getting a net-positive experience from something that is supposed to be enjoyable from the beginning (this only applies to gaming) it’s not worth my time. It may be important to you because you have a network of friends who value this, I don’t and would rather go diving with mine.

I mean this in the nicest way possible but I think single player games like Witcher or God of War would be a better fit for you.

Or just don’t pvp, game is 16 years old, yeah it’s competitive. There’s really good people around. Yesterday I was helping a friend cap 3s and there was a warrior gladiator/2.4 rated guy at 1350 cr that destroyed us lol

Do RBGs and you’ll easily get 1600

very well said … it s possible though to implement kind of WOD gear system in next patch which may save the day .

so true this too…

It’s boring and it takes ages though.

Wow need more sustain DMG and less burst, maybe not skill pruning, but definitely no more skills on action bar, those 10+ year exp gladiators can moan for more complex gameplay, but the game do not circle only around them. Arenas just put off new players from PVP as it’s too much burst and 0.1 second reaction times + have to learn zillion skills, your own and your enemies.

Worth is rather subjective. I think it’s worth because I have fun while doing it.

Sorry bro, i made 1450 on yhis mage, playing mage for 2 weeks.

Had 187 ilv when achieved combatant in random lfr with hpala or rogue.

Every class in the game can achiev 1400 in like 12 hours gameplay on yhemcourse of 1 week.

Dont agree with you here! And i wasnt highrated since wotlk.

So u cant say im a smurf!

U just need to imtoove ur arena gameplay 1400-1600 is highly achievable on any class
