Wow streamers

Hello there!
Firstly, I’d like to clarify: this is not trolling or irony, I am literally very curious about this.

So, why do people want streamers? People who play the game I mean. Isn’t it better to do and get things yourself than watch other people play?

I’d like to like watching streamers but I don’t seem to get the fuss.
What is it specifically that you enjoy?

I don’t really watch a lot of streamers, but when I do it’s generally to see something I can’t do myself (e.g. mythic raiding) or to see how to do something (e.g. watch someone playing my class do a 5 mask vision to get tips and ideas).

I do watch a lot of let’s plays from games that I don’t play because I enjoy the chat and banter of the people playing. If the people are entertaining then it’s fun to watch, same as any other type of video content. I do tend to watch YouTube videos as opposed to twitch streams, as the idea of watching something that’s going on for hours is a bit weird to me and I don’t usually have time to watch for so long.

Do you watch sports? If so why? Why not get a ball/bat and do it yourself?

There are several reasons to watch. The elite - watching the best of the best (the reasons are obvious). The social aspect - some streamers the game/activity they do is almost irrelevant, it is the ‘show’ they put on people tune in for. Others it could be that they show content you cannot see (Alpha/Beta access). Some are ‘educational’ they explain all they do like a live lesson/tutorial. There are many reasons, buy hey it is cool to sh1t on streamers.

I often have M+ streams running on my second stream, it’s always nice and helpful to see how other people deal with certain pulls, and sometimes you see something you can implement in your own keys.

If you mean esport in general like tournaments then it’s very much like football, it’s fun to see people play at a level you can only dream of reaching.

I watched Soda yesterday for a moment because I was on twitch updated my addons and he had thousands of viewers just by chatting with them and watch whatever random stuff he was told to watch.

They donated money just to get their voice heard so I guess that’s it, many just want somewhere to chat rather than learn something like mythic+ or high level pvp.

It’s the same with Asmongold, he isn’t as big as he is just because he have awesome skills, he just share his knowledge about the game and chat with a lot of people so they can feel a part of the stream.

You know there are people that dont sit in front of wow 24/7, yes, there are people that in their free time rather watch stream than play ( but hey, there is milions of people that rather watch soccer/basketball/hockey or what not instead of playing so whats difference?)

I usualy watch “streamers” when i cant play but have nothing else to do (like traveling to work or so…)

Also there is lots of stuff u can learn/ find out thanks to them, especialy if u look at people doing content u love the most but on way higher level

I personally only watch data-digging (wowhead) and updates reviews (T&E) plus all sort of YouTube videos for dungeon and raid tactics.

I’d rather play the game than watch someone play… so unless I am searching a solution to a specific problem, I won’t watch many videos and certainly won’t follow streams.

Shadowlands Alpha quest lines got me curious, but I still did not to watch the gameplay so I can experience them first hand when the game is released. I’m totally fine with the spoilers of graphics and game mechanics, but being wow a rpg game I consider the storyline something I pay to enjoy on my own.

And yes, I am the kind of player who reads all the quest text on theair first way through.

Alts are played much quicker, but the main is a Loremaster.

For the same reason people watch football, baseball, basketball or any other sport or activity instead of going out there and playing it themselves, even tho they do play it as well, and the same reason people watch any live shows at home.

Maybe the streamer is really good at the game and it’s interesting to watch a high quality gameplay.

Maybe the streamer is funny and actively talks with their chat.

I personally don’t watch streams because live streams doesn’t interest me. I prefer watching finished videos where I can pause, replay a part and generally do whatever I want with it without missing any parts. But I can see that someone just doesn’t really feel like playing anything and would just rather chill and watch their favourite streamer play and talk to them in the chat in real time.

I know of some streamers and I’ll happily watch their own youtube videos, stream highlights or clips because there’s almost always something new and interesting to be seen. Video game streams are just another form of live entertainment and streamers are legitimate entertainers, or at least the successful ones. Very few have the qualities and personalities to become respected in this bussiness.

This. It’s just entertainment. Also, people watch reality tv shows where rich folk go on world wide holidays because they can’t go themselves.

Whatever floats their boat, it’s just entertainment. Some like the streamer, some like the way they play, some learn new things about the game.

i love how people think they’re actually friends with whatever streamer they watch and donate to… “i watch for the social aspect”

reality is they couldn’t give a hoot who you are or what you have to say only your money, even your favourite streamer couldn’t give a rats behind about you if you didnt donate for those PATHETIC emojis or whatever you spam in chat every night

the whole “people watch sports too” argument is just as ridiculous since you dont donate to the actual athlete while theyre playing either

streamers arnt the problem why todays society sucks though, its the kind people that watch them

Twitch personalities mainly feed off of lonely peoples desire to feel like they’re part of a community.

To be fair, attending sport events usually cost a significant amount of money, even if you’re not donating directly to the athletes.

One blad streamer always says: “People watch me on their second monitor.”

It’s healthy to want to be part of a community, it’s not something only “lonely” people do.

Sure. But donating your money to somebody who doesn’t care about you and spamming emojis isn’t being part of a community, that’s a false perception.

I watch Asmongold from time to time, and he does a lot of community events with viewers, such as mount and transmog competitions. Seems like a community to me

This is similar like why you watch tv or videos online?

Why dont you do it by yourself?

Aside the joking, people do this mainly for relaxing.

I sometimes watch streams when i cant play myself. Dont know why, just find it interesting to see how they pull things and manage in m+.

Give money to someone, get their subjective opinion on in game clothing. Real community right there. I’m sure you could call him personally if you’re in need of a friend or maybe he could lend you money if you’re in economic trouble. You’re part of a community, after all.
