WoW Token is giving me a lot of anxiety ;(

So the WoW Token is coming to Classic, in China. This is giving me a lot of IRL anxiety. Playing the game is no longer as fun because my feeling of longevity and sense of accomplishment is pretty much gone. Earning gold, having gold, not having enough gold in Classic is a huge part of the experience.

The situation right now is the worst possible for me. If Blizzard just said they will introduce the WoW Token in EU/NA I could quit and do something else or if they said they will never do it I could continue like normal. But this situation right now is terrible. Maybe they will ruin the game (this is my honest feeling about tokens), soon? Maybe? Maybe not?

I’m having a hard to time to take deep breaths while playing now. It’s like each breath get stuck in my throat. My heart feels heavy and it’s like someone is standing on my chest. I’m not trying to be dramatic or exaggerate, I have had problems with anxiety for many years and playing wow has always been a way to be able to relax and feel good.

Blizzard is a cruel company. It’s just mean and sad what they are doing.

I can’t even believe it is happening after being so happy since launch. And now they do this, and really make it as bad as possible with not even saying anything.

This is more than just a game. What you do with this game affect people’s life.

A lot of news from China are getting the world anxious. It’s just how 2020 is.

Let’s just hope things stay confined to China as much as possible. On both accounts.

WoW China is run by another company(Netease)
So I probably wouldn’t worry about it yet

People don’t need it or want it and nobody’s asked for it (as far as I’ve seen) it’s easy to get enough gold and part of classic is the grind to get it. The closest people have come is asking for the most efficient way to earn gold depending on their class, that’s not asking for the token! I hope it never comes!

The only real benefit I can see is the token killed bots farming in retail when it was introduced. I don’t particularly want the tokens to be introduced, but I don’t think they are the end of the world either. I mean people are already buying gold by the millions, if they weren’t they’re wouldn’t be the demand for all these horrific bots running around… so I don’t see how it can hurt in that aspect. Personally I wouldn’t be buying them but I wouldn’t hold it against anyone else buying them either…

And op saying it’s giving him anxiety is just a bit strong… I don’t see how someone else having the will or the extra funds to spend it on their hobby should impact him in the slightest… they’re money… they’re choice.

And just to play devils advocate here, they suit the hardcore players because they can buy wow tokens from AH to get free wow without having to cross the picket line and play BFA… they are after all a money sink on the flip side

There has been lots of stuff you can buy in China WoW that you can’t buy in EU WoW.

Same goes for the Diablo 3 shop in CN, it was never added to US/EU.

They know we don’t want their devil’s lettuce in Europa, land of the great, maybe the NA’ians think alike I don’t know, I’m not an NA’ian.

China has a gold selling problem. If you think you encountering a bot in Classic on EU is bad, maybe every other player in China is a bot, it’s maybe so infested over there that they see no other way to root the devil out, other than legalizing gold selling.

Just maybe, these are my speculations as I’m not a CN’ian

Also, CN’ans dump a lot of money into micro transactions, it’s more ingrained into their society, you can look at statistical figures comparing per capita regional spending, it’s a known fact. They don’t care about muh immersions and muh good grinding/spending / impact as much as gearing all 8 classes in the best gear abailable so they can go out there and mass produce gold which they sell for real money and feed their family

It’s a business, it provides for them and they’re addicted to the game, they’ve been on private servers for the past 15 years, maybe this is their casual crowd going enough is enough

After they introduce the wow token bots won’t stop, there will always be bots, retail is infested with them too. It’s only their methods that will shift from selling gold into selling services

As long as there is enough demand these folks will never go out of business, so ye, install badboy and ignore em all,

ignorance is bliss

Those guys play the game differently. I’m almost certain there’s no stigma for them about spending real life money on virtual currency, almost every time I ended up on one of their streams they were never farming their own stuff.

good post.
i dont like to farm gold and even in bfa i only have like 10k gold max at any given time in a realm, i would even buy tokens if they come into classic.
But even if i would buy them, i dont like if they make into the game, i would be like, why farming professions, why have hope for some rare gear to drop?, why loot low level mobs? Why grind for better gear if i can just buy it instantly, just buy 2 tokens and i am ready to play only half or maybe 1/3 of the game.
i really dont think blizz can screw it up this much

Some would say the bad influence China has on the gaming industry is spreading like a virus.

I know why you aaaaall are afraid of Tokens. It’s easy - you are try hards and unofficially sell your services for players. Tokens are just make your services useless. And when someone says “if there are tokens, then I go to retail” you should know, that this guy was trying to make some money.

There’s not a lot of good gear available for gold in classic, there’s a few pieces here and there but very little endgame stuff. Tokens in vanilla would mostly be used for riding skill, mounts, pots/flasks etc imo. It’s not like in retail where you can buy full pretty decent gear as a fresh 120. Even if you would buy boost in MC/BWL the competition for drops would be fierce considering raidsizes, a good guild would be able to take a substantial amount of boostees in each raid.
It all depends on pricing imo, if tokens would be a good value for money i wouldn’t mind. If they could save me from hours and hours on end of farming black lotuses i would be tempted.

If Tokens would come to EU. Then Blizzard can calculate for another unsubscription.
