Hi, all! Been planning to get back to wow after I finish up a project this September. So far, Ive got a 9950X3D, 64 RAM at 6600 and a 9100 PRO. worth mentioning I play on a 65 C4 with a controller, off the couch. If i want to run everything max, is it worth getting a 5090 or can I skate by with a 5080? Cheers!
your tv has 144 hz refresh rate
WoW runs at 500 fps on my 4070 with max settings with a 9800x3d
you sir are buying a ferrari to take your kids to school.
if you play games other than wow, then perhaps you should go ask there for hardware requirements, wow isn’t demanding at all.
You can run this game on Ultra with an RTX 3060.
Sorry, I used to play wow until Wrath and only recently decided to get back into it because of the controller support. I played it a while on my Mac recently and decided wanted it to look a bit better.
I’ve been a console player for the last 15 years and know absolutely fa about pc parts, hence the question.
Not trying to be stupid, it’s just a question born out of ignorance. Only thing Ive seen consensus on is WoW being cpu intensive, not gpu.
With these specs you could probably run the game without a gpu
The real question is
Do you play games other than WOW ?
If so, then you should configure around those games
WoW will run just fine
No, Im buying it just for wow. Everything else I play on consoles, and, tbf, dont have time for much else anyway.
When you say max, is that with all bells and whistles? Ray tracing, AA, max shadows et al?
Thanks!
pretty much
While 5080 is still overkill
Having anything less alongside these specs is a felony
It’s your wallet in the end
But you should be more than okay with a 5080
And worth more than 64 RAM or is that plenty? Ive seen 96 at 6800 and up to 192 at lower speeds.
This is still very true, especially if you plan on progress raiding.
You will be fine with a 5080, even a 5070.
This literally means nothing without context, since we are talking about an MMO with vastly fluctuating FPS depending on the content you are playing.
Like, show me your 500 FPS in a 30man raid
Heck, even show me your 500 FPS in the middle of Dornogal.
It can be. See above.
You won’t need more than 32GB for gaming atm, unless you are running like 200 chrome tabs on the side
I have pretty much same setup, thou with a 5090 I think and lg c2 65.
Old engine so cpu is the limit so 5080 should be fine. I still turn off rt (it only shadow)
cause thou it mostly runs fine, some places have abysmal performance with it on
and it only noticeable on some shadows anyway. (There is smooth motion if you
really want to turn it on but not worth delay I think in wow and minor visual difference)
And otherwise AA is on full blast? I assume there s no other graphics options that eat up a lot of resources? The Mac settings look wildly different…
Don’t worry about AA, even with MSAA 8x at 4K, the 5080 will be bored and chillin
Unless you crank up the renderscale (supersampling), which btw is bugged (has been for almost a year now).
Yeah thou must admit difference between 8x and 4x multisample is minor, kinda wish
engine had better aa but it is what it is.
Oh and make sure resample quality is on Fidelity FX Super Resolution
To make it work at 100% type in this
/console set ResampleAlwaysSharpen 1
Then set the sharpen value you like (I use 0.6 if I remember right)
What’s the renderscale?
It’s basically the resolution scaler, like 100% is your native res (e.g. 4K).
Setting it to 50% halves both axes.
Turning it up to 200% would be 8K.
The game will up or downscale to native via bilinear or whatever resample setting you have it set to.
BUT like i said, it is BROKEN. DO NOT use it. LEAVE it at 100% or it will kill your FPS.
If goal is 120-140 fps 4k then 200% no go even with 5090, 140% to 150% it ok with 5090
I guess.
But I use 100% mostly, cause wow not much difference when sitting in a couch a bit away.
Renderscale mostly make difference around 200% but 8k not there yet in performance.
Save some power too I guess XD
I do play other games with higher renderscale or dlaa where it more visible, maybe
it a art style thing + old engine.
U can run ultra with 2k series… Like wow dosnt need much to run with best settings…
my point is
if you’re unable to at least cap your monitor’s refresh rate with these spec running on max
then no matter what kind of hardware you stick in there, it won’t make a difference.
he will achieve the exact same results with a weaker and cheaper CPU and GPU
GPU yes.
CPU, i would recommend to get the 9800X3D instead, the extra cores from the 9950X3D do nothing for WoW and 90% of games.
The CPU will make or break your FPS in WoW, if you want triple digit FPS, you need the best CPU you can get.
Even with a 9800X3D you will drop below 60 in a raid at times.
i remember i had to set a cap on my foreground fps because this game was running on so high fps that my youtube videos started to lag (apparently there’s a bug on windows with this)
