XP gains from PvP in Wrath Classic

Hey Everybody!

I’m here to talk to you about gaining experience from PvP in Wrath of the Lich King Classic.

We’re going to re-introduce experience gain based on honor earned as well as the ability to turn off all experience gains, but we’ve decided not to bifurcate the matchmaking queue based on that feature.

The ability to earn experience from PvP was originally added to encourage people who enjoy PvP to do battlegrounds as part of their leveling up experience. However, this collides with the desires of a specialized PvP community, who enjoyed locking themselves to a particular level-bracket in PvP, such as level 19 Warsong Gulch. Since PvP experience would cost them the ability to lock themselves to a particular bracket, we also added NPCs who could turn off your ability to gain experience entirely.

Originally it was decided that these two groups shouldn’t play in the same matches with one another. Players who had disabled experience were separated into a different battleground queue, but the result of this decision was that neither group had enough players to find matches, defeating the point of both systems. What’s the point of giving experience in PvP if you can’t find a battleground match to do it in?

Having seen that effect, we’re going to keep these groups queuing together, so that both groups can find matches. While an individual who isn’t optimizing their capabilities for level 19 might not be able to compete on an individual level, it’s more fun to play a game with people of unequal capabilities than it is to not be able to play at all.

To summarize:

  • We’re restoring the ability to gain experience from PvP activities at the same rate present in patch 3.3.5
  • We’re restoring the ability to turn off your experience for 10g from Behsten and Slahtz in Stormwind and Orgrimmar and respectively.
  • We are not bifurcating the queue, and players who have turned off experience will continue to matchmake in the general pool so that everybody has the highest chance of finding a match.

I hope these changes help keep low level battlegrounds alive in Wrath of the Lich King.

Thanks for your interest and support!

Thank you.

My most fond memories of Wrath was playing with my mates on our 60s locked ‘Twinks’ and competing with other Twinks. I can still name dozens of guilds we used to face and the amazing games we’d play. Plus it was always good fun to face off vs level 69s in WSG with their WOTLK twink level Engineering and still come off ontop.

Cataclysm had completely killed that due to the change in the queue system (pushed to xp-off) & the non-random rotation of the Queue system (WSG → AB → EOTS → AV) which would get stuck at AV due to there not being 80 level 60 twinks in queue simultaneously… We’d get 3 games a day which killed the community in a matter of weeks.

If anyone wonders what this mean.

Twinks in bis gear with locked XP will dominate battlegrounds and oneshoot levellers.

Heirlooms > twink gear anyway. Originally, twinking was killed because alt levellers wanted to be able to free farm new players, but there’s no new players for them to farm any more.

if you think some one who just have heirlooms are going to have any chance againts a twink you clearly have no idea what you are talking about

If i can’t get 1 lvl per bg win, i don’t see any reason to wast my time for lvling.
Even on Wotlk where there is 0 spells instead of Cataclysm when at lvl 30 you have 80% of your gameplay of a Wotlk lvl 80.

This may come as a shock to you but some people play videogames because its fun. So even if they level slower they are having fun while doing so.

I don’t think anyone will have fun leveling in bgs in wotlk classic though.

It’s not fun to slack 5h at the same lvl with 4 spells.

And as you said =>

Instead of Cataclysm.

Heirlooms beat some old twink gear, but a twink will have every slot BIS with BIS enchants and if that also means heirlooms, they will have those in those slots too. A twink will decimate any heirloom player, tho for sure it’s not as bad as if heirlooms didn’t exist.

When you get to level60-70 range the raid geared twinks will instagib heirloom players, but that’s no different than say doing AV at level60 as a newly dinged and getting dumped on by Ashbringers in AQ40/Naxx gear, as was my experience when I levelled my Horde Warrior in Classic Vanilla, still had a blast.

I think PvP levelling sounds alright, I bet the XP rate is crap tho.

I wish I had a also choice to use RDF if I want. But you people even changing barber shops to change the body type so that you seem “nicer” on the terms of public and gender equality but I just can’t simply have the feature that Wotlk has. I am slowly clapping your overall performance on being such a perfect hypocrite. Change more things like raid lockouts etc so we can enjoy a new wrath that you put it 6 feet ( saying feet cause maybe you can understand better ) under the ground. Love you blizz really you are one such a greedy little snowflake.

This solution basically means using regular players as padding in a twink match just so that the match can start faster.

I’m sure the regular players will be thrilled:
“Why U join my twink match when u no twink?!? U just ruined my game ZOMG! Go get geared first NOOB!!!”

/sarcasm off

The result of this decision: instead of two separate groups of players whose queues are slow, you will have one group of players whose queues are slow, and the other group won’t play BG’s at all.

So much for faster queues.
So much for gaining experience from PvP.

You pro-RDF guys are weird. I have seen his on the us forum also. Somehow you manage to bring up RDF and Body type option in every thread even when it has nothing to do with the topic.

On topic. I would have leveled at least one alt doing only BGs. I would have play BGs sporadically on the the rest. Now I will not touch them while leveling. I don’t really care much, it’s not a big deal. It’s whatever. But I would have played BGs and now I will not. It’s really really really not fun to play vs twinks.

If being weird means that Blizz taking the choice that we want to use RDF from us and making us suffer with trade, general channels with LF tank for heroics I am not the weird guy. You people that anti rdf is much weirder due to you want thay social interaction of LF for players for the heroics that you want like tbc which there is nothing to like about to stay still in game so that you will feel that social experience of wasting 15 to 30 min of your time by spamming on channels or stay and wait in new useless LFG bulletin to your bones. You will love to go tanaris when the daily is CoS.

The game doesn’t revolve around you. You don’t have to play BGs with your alts. It will always be less efficient than grinding quests anyway.

If they only were able to save up all the time spend on this forum and other places complaining about it then they would have had enough time equal to the manual effort of creating groups for months.

It acts similar to culture war outrage. Next month they have forgotten about it and find something else to be complaining non-stop about.

Now also bring remote q to BGs so not only twinks q for them and normal people can also while leveling and not waste time to run to the city to q up and run back to the zone . Or don’t and wait and see how this does nothing in the long run and under 80 bgs are dead .

If you think they don’t neither do you.

You know the most powerful enchants, the leg and shoulder enchants? They require lvl60 to use. They don’t work at lvl1 any more, the power difference between a loomer and a twink is no longer absolutely huge.

Raid gear will (mostly) be inferior to TBC gem gear. There’s plenty of lvl60 items you can get with 3 sockets each, which can have the +16 (and later +20) WoTLK gems in.

Twinking isn’t going to be anywhere near as popular as people are expecting. Avoid the 10-19 bracket whilst levelling, you’ll see a few at 29, but then that’s it.

This is one of the bad changes that prove Blizzard has no idea what they are doing. Back in the day the twink and non-twink queue was split because battlegrounds feel unenjoyable for normal leveling players. Twinks are like one shotting gods with multiple times their hp from a leveling players perspective.

Removing the twinks from the queue actually increased the overall participation by a huge amount. Yes, most twinkers stopped playing, since they prefer to oneshot low geared players, instead of having fair fights, but leveling players were able to play on a more even field and they had fun in battlegrounds for once. Players were less likely to be frustrated and more likely to queue up again.

As it stands now, leveling players will stop queuing again, being discouraged without a chance to fight back. The overall activity will be low once more, because Blizzard does not play the game and doesnt bother to look at the data from back then.

Actually twinks stopped playing because they simply couldn’t play the game any more, twinking was never popular enough to have constant queues and this was back in the days when battlegrounds were split into battlegroups rather than every realm being connected.

But it’s okay, I don’t expect you crybabies to get your facts straight.
