You aren't invited if you are not 10/10 but you're 9/10, and

and if you start a group yourself at 9/10 they don’t join because you’re not 10/10. What conundrum!

At least you can spend time at the AH now.

I just had someone that said “I know I’m part of the problem, but if I invite you the others may leave!11”.

And the sad thing is he’s perfectly right(!) hence the conundrum of the topic.

Get in a guild if you want a better raiding experience.

I wonder how they did manage to get that 10/10 then

Witch-hunting from other threads is not allowed. It’s off-topic and trolling and a personal attack.
I guess you support the topic of the OP text; good to know where you stand.

You think I don’t know that? I don’t have the time (schedule of stable times) to do that now.
I just find it interesting to expose what a stupid conundrum it is if you’re 9/10 right now.

Some of them are from guilds that disbanded or got them as carries, or they just bought their kills the first time.

You CAN do it with pugging but it’s hard because few 10/10s want to join you (I reached ~54% p3 recently).

and who did they buy those carries from?

Haven’t you seen the LFG tool? It’s filled with “buy hc kill with 180g” today. There’s a report tool against ads but nothing happens.

and how did those get their 10/10?

The boosters? Those are sometimes guilds. I bet there are also a lot of sweatshops that turned it into a job in order to sell the gold for cash which breaks the TOS of the game.

what prevents you to achieve the same with a guild then?

Oh you didn’t read the reply right above you and you were being passive aggressive for no reason on top.
I said it’s because I don’t have the schedule to commit to a “stable job in a guild” right now.
I understand the situation but I describe what a conundrum it is during 9/10 of heroic.

If there are others like me: I think I figured out the ideal solution, assuming we’re looking for a fair solution because there are also the pay-to-win solutions of paying for it (which I find pointless) or being carried by a friendly guild (which I also find pointless).
Just become a raid leader of a pug and slowly reach sylvanas; it will be painful a bit especially after the first 4-5 bosses but it’s doable eventually…

If you’re talking about HC, most guilds do not have mandatory attendance, just join a social casual HC guild, and join the raids when your time allows it, eventually you’ll get your curve.
If you’re talking about M those guilds will probably have higher standards and require attenance.

With all due respect to those guilds: I think usually I beat their progress as a raid leader of a pug. I can usually get ~9/10hc progress puggers like myself and the occasional 10/10hc-4/10m guy in the group and that’s probably better “progress” than a guild that can’t hold a stable group.

If you mean: “join a hard-core-ish guild and be carried when they do alt-runs” I find that not totally terrible but it feels dirty and those types of guilds usually lure you to join them as a stable member and I don’t even want to be tempted.

well if you have easier methods, by all means do that, I thought the point of the thread was that that specific method didn’t work for you.
many casual HC guilds are pretty stable, sure you won’t go from 1/10 to 10/10 in a single reset, but progressing with a guild is imho the best way to do it.

The topic is mainly about the conundrum of being the INVITEE of a pug. I tried that today since I had no time to make a group (a fresh hc pug can take THE ENTIRE HALF OF THE DAY to reach Sylvanas (if even that)) and I noticed that it’s approximately impossible to be invited as a 9/10 to a Sylvanas.
MAYBE if you weren’t a DPS I guess…

PUG’s are usually created by 3 type of players:

  • guild runs that require extra players to fill in some roles;
  • players who already completed the content several times and are just farming it;
  • players who are trying to get a boost by creating the raid and hoping no one notices their ilvl;
    (there’s other situations, but these are the most likely)

In all of these options, they will take the better prepared players and that will be those that got kills. 9/10 means you probably did not kill the last boss, which is usually the hardest one. That doesn’t mean you’re not capable of it, but you’ve never done it.
They could ask what’s your best attempt to see how far into the fight you’ve gone, but there’s no way of knowing if you’re lying…you can say “I got Sylv to 57% before the big noob tank failed with wailiing arrow and everyone left”, they have no way of knowing if it’s true…and the problem with PUG’s is that people just want to get it done fast and easy, the less effort the best.

You have two choices…keep struggling through the PUG system until you get the curve and then you’re fine; or join a guild, which used to be mandatory in order to complete content and should still be an essential part of playing this game.
