You having fun?

Guildwars 2 is a MMORPG, i wonder how they tackled the PvP problem…

Guildwars 2 post:
"To clarify what some others have not - there are two types of ‘PvP’ in GW2. sPvP and WvW.

Most people just refer to sPvP as PvP, and WvW as WvW.

sPvP or PvP is the organized 5v5 ‘battleground’ style of Pvp - all gear is normalized in this game mode as long as you’re wearing chest, legs and foot armor.

WvW is the bigger, massive map style PvP, and your gear does not normalize - players bring their gear with them, meaning if you’re a brand new 80 with rares on fighting someone in ascended gear & legendary weapons, you will feel a big difference."

No way!! what was that again?
all gear is normalized in this game mode as long as you’re wearing chest, legs and foot armor.

Personally, I disagree. I think the amount of gatekeeping for PvP is way too vast, it turns potential new PvPers away from the scene, and makes sure that only people who either gear up through endless PvE or who’ve stuck to PvP from the beginning of the expansion to the very end have a chance (see “fun”) in what’s supposed to be the casual form of PvP: Battlegrounds.

It’s possible to build your way up from nothing in PvE, do mythic 0, then progress to M+, get gear from there and possibly move on to raids.
There is no equivalent for PvP.

BGs should in my opinion be PvPers’ chance to get entry-level gear. Even in Shadowlands this does not seem to be the case, judging by current quality of gear and how hard it is to farm enough currency for it.

Entering the game hoping to do PvP, only to be told that you have to be geared to the teeth from PvE to even be allowed to survive 1 second in the entry-level casual PvP is incredibly poor design, and I disagree that it’s how things should be.

Gear should matter, I agree with you there.
But gear shouldn’t carry you to automatic victory.

I liked the Korrak scaling. Gear still matters but it all scales to a point. You could stack secondarys and even use some set effects still.

Was great, I ran every raid and got to use gear/gems/enchants/trinkets that are now pretty useless. It also let me play every single class without suffering for not having top current gear.

Wish there was bgs like this as a choice too. Legion scaling was one dimensional from what I read.

Personally yes. I’m having fun. This and my mage are my best geared toons and it is occasionally fun to blow someone up but, being that theres plenty of people around with ilvl +10 and more over me I still get hit hard too (Hello mythic geared ret paladins!)

On the other hand I have a few fresh 50’s and you know what, I’m having fun in BG’s with them too! Yes Ive been oneshot by azerite/aimed shot/templers verdict/arcane missiles etc… but I’m not worrying about it, Mostly because I’m having fun relearning specs I might not have played for 8 years. That…and the fact that in a few weeks time we’ll all be getting free 100 ilvl gear to prepare us for SL.

Having a toon thats around ilvl 100 actually feels like more than enough to have fun in bg’s and do some meaningful damage.

It really was. I still think templates with customizeable secondary stats would be the way to go, and a bit more of a boost to primary stats. 10% more stamina/main stat from high item level is fine in my eyes, but it looks like a really big part of the player base wants to feel like they can dominate based on gear, so maybe up to 15%?

That’s an incredibly healthy attitude my guy, cheers!

There is no reason to not be able to appeal to both. If rated system was improved and was populated this is perfect place to outgear and stomp player who think they can waltz in low geared.

Also for this Korrak scaling its good for economy also, so much old and near useless item suddenly worth using again, this is one way I can think to inject life back into proffessions and economy, also promotes people to redo older content beyond pets/chieves/mogs.

We have a dinosaur of a pvp system, I can see places where it got some love but feels like lately they largely try to downplay and ignore its importance or desire for this. If numbers for participation are not so good thats down to poor design. I think PvP just as important as PvE content and deserves same treatment.

Because you’d probably come back to the forums complaining that the PvP queues are over an hour long. You need to gear up.

Thankfully Blizzard has at least acknowledged that they heard the PvP community and for Shadowlands we might actually be able to get viable gear for PvP from PvP.

Yes, but that is exactly what we’re having.

Boom headshot PvP.

So fun.

i mean like battlefield, u make a load out for engineer, medic, assault and recon. basicly for wow this would mean, u can choose class-spec and gear setup before the random bg starts

Well tbh I miss the pvp system from how it was in tbc but if unfortunately blizzard wanted to this way how it is now sadly it’s not much as players we can do

Your prayers were not answered because so far we know for a fact that:

  • Honor gear will upgrade to slightly below LFR ilvl, which means it will be just as useful as 425 gear is now, only you will start even lower and have to spend time upgrading it to that ilvl. Maybe useful for the first couple of weeks of the expansion, but obviously trash gear for actual PvP purposes beyond that.
  • Conquest gear will be rating gated. Blizzard has not shared more specifics about this system yet, other than that it will be rating gated and will upgrade to slightly below mythic ilvl for 2.4k rated people.
  • There will be vendors that allow you to choose the secondary stats on the honor/CP gear, assuming you want to use it that is.
  • There will be a trinket set that boosts versatility gain by 30% if you wear two PvP trinkets at the same time. I’m pretty sure this only works in PvP instances though, so these trinkets will be trash in PvE and open world PvP.

So realistically, the best case scenario is that Blizzard allows non-rated people to eventually upgrade conquest gear to heroic raiding ilvls, just like conquest rewards in BfA scaled to heroic ilvls 10 weeks into the season. I would not hold my breath for anything more than that.

Yeah, the stuff I’ve read so far is incredibly underwhelming, I’ve come to terms with the fact that people will probably be forced to do M+ and raid before they can PvP.

I’m holding out for them boosting the PvP gear’s item level and lowering their cost so that it becomes a viable gearing method, and them stating that they’re doing dedicated PvP testing for once is a promising statement, but until they put actions to their words I’ll remain casually pessimistic.

Hear, hear, here, here.

So true. Spot on. And mmorpg doesnt mean gear wins. Wow isn’t the first or only mmorpg.

In dark age of Camelot, considered the best pvp mmo, for most of the time the best set of end game pvp gear was crafted. You could make the perfect stat build for your character.

Even without the perfect set just having a good set still made you completely able to contribute in pvp. There were even non max level characters going into world pvp and contributing.

Pvp, player versus player, competitive gameplay, should predominantly be about skill and not have massive barriers to entry to a level playing field. It’s not Gear vs Gear.

Cause PvE is low energy and boring

Yes i am as it feels like the effect of traitors migrating to horde really starts to pave off i have won so many bg’s lately that its actually fun again to do bg’s.

Fighting horde now actually feels like i am fighting against those morons that were polluting Alliance bg chat with their negativity i am starting to almost feel sorry for my opponents because lots of these stomping matches you can really see from their behavior that its the free win wishing traitors that we are but against.

Just gear up like everyone else. You dying in a couple weak hits is completely fair - lot of people worked for it. It’s not P2W. It’s level 50, prepatch, and Blizzard didn’t introduce catch-up gear yet as it’s going to be tied to the prepatch event.

PvE is boring, low-energy and repetitive. MoP and beforehand it was always possible to gear meaningfully through PvP, it’s absurd that they removed the ability to do this.

I know, and I do think that is bad, but even if you had super good competetive PvP gear to grind… you’re still gonna get 2 shotted by the weakest abilities, simply because there is a huge pool of geared people.

I’m so geared I can oneshot low geared clothies with 1 basicattack. Not even joking. Wings, on use trinket, berserking, saltwater, blood of the enemy and aura of reckoning. Although if I really push it I would be able to oneshot even high geared people with 1 basicattack, but it’s a lot of rng.
